Final Thoughts:
Overall, our team’s favorite during the Rambla taste tests are: Tartar de Atun and Montadillo de Solomillo for the tapas; Paella de Setas and BBQ Costillar de Cerdo Iberico for the mains; and Flan de Huevo Con Crema de Limon for dessert.
The cocktail program and wine selection are well curated and you can spend the whole night enjoying tapas and wine. Budget about ₱800/head.

Today, we’re back in Florence, Italy and we’re meeting our past guide and current friend, Silvia Ponticelli, to give her a tour of our 600-year-old palazzo on the Arno river—and for her to walk us through the history of Florentine Fashion.
Florence was named the most beautiful city in the world by Forbes magazine—we’re gonna show you why.
Our previous episodes in Florence have already covered some of the history of this incredible city. It’s the birthplace of the renaissance, it’s home to some of the most well-known artwork on the planet, and it WAS the home of some of history’s most famous artists and thinkers.
Part of what makes Firenze so unique is that aside from the sights and sounds of endless mopeds and cars, the view from almost any window or hilltop in the city is mostly unchanged from the days when those renaissance masters lived here more than 500 years ago. That’s one reason that it’s so easy to feel the energy and history as you walk the city streets or gaze from one of the many bridges. What other major, developed city on earth can say that?

THE COOLEST LIBRARY IN THE WORLD!?
Kochi, Shikoku, Japan - On day 4 in Shikoku, Japan we started off on the Henro Pilgrimage trail at Chikurin-ji Temple in Kochi City. Chikurin-ji is the 31st temple of the famous Shikoku Pilgrimage and where we begin our day in Kochi.
For lunch, we went into Kochi City to try the famous Katsuo Tataki.
Then, it was a long drive into the Kochi countryside to Shimanto to a traditional Japanese Tatara blacksmith. Nobuya Hayashi is a traditional blacksmith who specializes in Tatara ironmaking.
and I’m here to make the coolest travel keepsake I’ve ever had.
On our way back from a perfect day, we have one more incredible place to see - The Yusuhara Community Library was designed by famous Japanese Architect, Kengo Kuma, the same architect who has been commissioned to design the new 1.4 billion dollar National Stadium in Tokyo for the 2020 Olympics.
We finish the day at another one of Kengo Kuma’s properties for dinner, and it’s another delicious spread of regional dishes - including some ridiculous good wagyu beef.

In July, I spent a week road tripping around the smallest of the 4 major Japanese Islands - Shikoku. I was invited by the Shikoku Tourism Board to visit each of the 4 Shikoku Prefectures and discover everything there is to do in Shikoku.
It was very unique in comparison to my first Travel Deeper Japan trip where I visited the popular Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka.
Shikoku feels much more remote and a true authentic Japan travel experience - If you ever have the chance, add Shikoku to your list!

Japan Behind the Counter at a local Japanese restaurant in Tokyo called Bulldog with the most popular menu item, Menchi Katsu which is Japanese breaded and deep-fried ground meat patty but they also serve many other fried items. This is not a Japan Day in the Life the video, but it captures what happens behind the scenes of a local japanese restaurant setting up in the morning and getting ready for lunch. This Tokyo Restaurant, Bulldog, is a traditional Japanese Western influenced style restaurant that usually has customer lines almost longer than its history. Just a 3 minutes walk away from Oimachi Station, this shop was opened post war in 1949 in what was considered a black market area but evolved over time and now situated in this historic hidden backstreet alleyway known as Higashi Koji Shotengai amongst other bars and restaurants with a similar history. The owner. Suzuki san or as everyone refers to him Sensei which means Teacher in English is a second generation shop owner as it was passed down from his father. This is a half a day in his life a Japanese restaurant owner.
