The island park is a favourite amongst locals and you can find them swimming in the natural rock pools during the warmer summer months.

Taichung is Taiwan’s second-largest city and is the gateway to the country’s mountainous regions.

Decommissioned in 2016, the red brick building was in fact the Old Taichung Railway station. It no longer serves as a railway station today but is now a train museum and exhibition space.
05:27 - Shenji New Village 審計新村
take a trip back to the 60s in this village. Today it houses cute cafes and craft stores that will easily take up half a day to explore.
05:52 - Taichung Second Market 台中第二市場店
This is one of the best places to get breakfast. Food vendors close as soon as they run out of food so breakfast is a good time to try the best of the lot.

This last location is an alpine area surrounded by 18 mountains and sits 2000m above sea level

Top 7 Things to do in Taipei, TAIWAN
Taipei unexpectedly turned out to be one of our favourite destinations in Asia. Some of the places on this list were absolutely magical. This Taiwan series is the last of our videos during our time overseas before we had to scramble to get back into NZ amidst all the travel restrictions that were popping up daily.
If you're planning a trip to Taiwan and Taipei, we hope you'll find our Top Things to do in Taipei travel guide handy. There are a bunch of must see places in Taipei, these were our faves.
Starting things off we head over to Daan Forest Park, the largest park in Taipei. Peter had an amazing close encounter with a parrot which he befriended. We were pleasantly surprised by the wildlife at Daan Park. Definitely a must visit for nature lovers.

Next up we head to a famous town called Shifen. Shifen is best known for two things, Shifen Waterfall and Shifen Old Street. Shifen waterfall is Taiwan's broadest waterfall. It's also known as Little Niagara of Taiwan, while Shifen Old Street is where sky lanterns get released (which we opted not to do for environmental reasons). While at Shifen Old Street, there's also nice scenery, snacks and gift shops to enjoy.
Shifen Waterfall and Shifen Old Street are however very close to one another though and they were both part of our transportation package together with Jiufen.

After visiting Shifen, we headed over to one of the most magical places we've ever been - Jiufen. If you love the Japanese animated movie Spirited Away you will love Jiufen because there is definitely something special about this village that really resembles the famous Studio Ghilbi anime.
Jiufen is commonly misconceived to be the inspiration for the town and bathhouse in Hayao Miyazaki's Spirited Away, however Miyazaki has said it wasn't but the place really does bear a resemblance and gives you the Spirited Away vibes. It's no wonder so many people flock to Jiufen, Taiwan and have dubbed it the Real Life Spirited Away.

To get to these places you can take public transport, however we found a shuttle bus option offered by Klook which made getting to Shifen and Jiufen much more convenient and relaxing.
Another must do activity when you're in Taipei or Taiwan, is visit a Taiwanese night market. There are a ton of nightmarkets to visit in Taipei, but for this video we went to Tonghua night market. It's also known as Linjiang night market. Tonghua is a much more local night market than others in Taipei so it's less crowded compared to the far more popular tourist night markets such as Shilin and Raohe. Nothing beats a hot lu rou fan on a cool night and the smell of the stinky tofu will either repel or make you salivate.

Hours: 6pm–midnight
Often hailed as one of the top must visit attractions of Taipei, is the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall. Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall (CSK Memorial Hall) is the most prominent historical landmark in Taiwan. At the complex, you'll also see the Liberty Arches as well as the National Concert Hall and National Theatre.

Hours: Monday - Sunday 9am–6pm
Did you know that many of the treasures from the Forbidden Palace are actually located in Taipei, Taiwan? Check them out at the National Palace Museum. Definitely another popular must visit attraction in Taipei.

Hours: Monday - Sunday 8:30am–9pm
Finally for a majestic view of Taipai city and Taipei 101 you can take a brisk hike up Elephant Mountain, also known as Xiangshan.
Elephant Mountain is located in Xinyi District, Taipei, Taiwan.

Taiwan will pay tourists to visit in 2023!! This is amazing and if you haven't thought about visiting Taiwan, this is the year to do so! I'll show you some delicious local spots and things I do as a local Taiwanese every time I visit Taiwan: from all you can eat buffets, Nagomi japanese buffet the hottest spot lately, to visiting Yong Kang Street, eating Taiwanese beef noodle soup... Taiwan is a beautiful country that I hope you visit one day!
The Taiwan Tourism Bureau, announced on April 20th that a lucky draw for a $5,000NTD travel incentive will be launched on May 1st, 2023 for foreign travelers who enter the country on a foreign passport and stay between three days and 90 days, in an effort to boost tourism. To be eligible for the draw, tourists must register online at least one day in advance on the designated event webpage or corporate partner platform which will go live on May 1st. They will receive a designated QR code after registration. Here's the website to register:

Q: How long did it take?
A: My trip was 14 days.
Q: Which airport should I arrive at?
A: Having travelled from the other side of the globe, I arrived at Taoyuan International Airport in Taipei. If travelling from Australia or Asia, there may be connecting flights to Kaohsiung International Airport on the south-west coast of Taiwan.
Q: How much did it cost?
A: You can see a cost breakdown of my trip at 12:37
Q: How did you pay for things or get local currency?
A: I just take money out from an ATM using my debit card. It has a small international transaction fee, but it’s minuscule if you only do it once or twice. You may be able to order foreign currency at better rates, but it’s not something I personally bothered with.
Q: Is it easy to find petrol stations?
A: Yes, you'll find one pretty much everywhere, including remote areas in the mountains! I always went with caution and ensured I had a full tank before entering remote areas, however to my shock, there were petrol stations, and even 7 Eleven stores in remote mountains! Just to be safe, I would highly recommend getting a full tank of petrol before going to the mountains.

A: I visited mid November to early December and spent 14 days there.

I went to Taiwan with no major expectations but let me tell you, the country, people, food and nature truly blew me away and now I understand why people consider it a hidden gem in Asia. I started my Taiwan adventure in Taipei, often called the food capital of Asia for its wide assortment of cuisines and unique themed restaurants including the prawn fishing restaurant where you'll be able to capture your own dinner but also the toilet restaurant where you can eat beef curry out of a toilet bowl.

The best way to start your Taipei adventure is with an epic Taiwanese breakfast at Fu Hang Soy Milk, the most popular joint in town but do come early, lineups can grow very large. I ordered the deep-fried bread stick, egg pancake and a delicious cold soy milk soup. There is a good reason why locals wait hours in line to get this stuff.
One of the most incredible experiences in Taipei was getting a knife massage by knife massage practitioners who require to be vegetarian and meditate daily but don't worry the cleavers used are blunt, it is quite satisfying getting hammered by blunt metal to a point where I fell asleep from relaxation.

For ancient temples in Taipei, visit the breathtaking Longshan temple, also known as 'the meeting place of the gods' were you can witness daily rituals, offerings and many locals praying to the many deities.
One of the strangest foods I tried were the fermented duck eggs which were traditionally made by a mixture of lime, salt and ash turning the egg white base into a gelatin texture and the egg yolk green from fermentation, to my surprise, this was a delicious snack.
As a giant lover of seafood, the Addiction Aquatic Development fish market in Taipei is the ultimate destination. A high-end fish market with some of the best sashimi, grilled eel and other fish products I had ever tasted, a great spot for lunch!
Make sure to purchase yourself a SIM card as well at the airport to stay connected at all times!

In conclusion, Taipei left a lasting impression on me to such an extent that I returned to Taipei a second time in less than a month time to record even more incredible footage of this mesmerizing city. If you are considering of visiting Asia, do NOT skip Taiwan.

Airport Ambiance, Walking with Trolly Cam through Taoyan International Airport, Taipei, Taiwan 4K
I had a 6-hour layover in Taoyan Airport and I thought it would be an interesting experiment to mount my camera on a luggage trolly and walk through the airport for a bit. We start of at Gate A1, naturally I forgot to point the camera at the sign, but from there we walk past all the gates to D10, and then back to the A-Gates. From my interpretation of the map we visit almost the entire airport, including some interesting themed waiting lounges, endless hallways lined with name brand stores. The airport is a bit unique in that there are very few areas where the planes are visible, and it seemed the high end shopping would never end at times.
This basically a trial video try capturing the sights and sounds of the airport with a rolling camera. I was thinking the airport sounds might be good background for work or study, to get the feeling of international travel and help focus. Or perhaps those who are traveling to Taiwan and would like a look at the airport might find the walking tour useful. I particularly recommend checking out the themed rest areas and mini museum exhibitions.
