PENANG, MALAYSIA (2023) | 10 Awesome Things To Do On Penang Island

Penang island has become a popular tourist destination thanks to its colonial architecture, natural and cultural attractions, and some of the best street food in Asia. Here are 10 of the best things to do in Penang:

10. Try The Unique Cuisine Of Penang
Dishes you should try include Laksa, Cendol, and Nasi Kandar. In the heart of George Town you can also find the Chulia Street Night Market where you can sample some delicious Chinese-Malaysian food, such as Char Kuey Teow & Wonton Mee.

☑️ Penang Street Food Tour:

9. Explore George Town’s Historical Streets & Art Scene
When walking around the historical area, you’ll find lots of beautiful buildings and wall paintings, which represent images from Penang’s past and daily life.

???? Where we stayed in George Town - Attic Hotel:

8. Take The Funicular Up To Penang Hill
Penang Hill offers panoramic views of the city and the mainland in the distance. But you can also find a Hindu temple, a mosque, a variety of nature trails, an art gallery, and even cafés and food courts.

7. Discover Flora And Fauna At The Habitat
The Habitat is a rainforest discovery center that takes you into the heart of the jungle. It’s a treasure of biodiversity, boasting an abundance of wildlife. You can explore the forest by walking a nature trail, including informational signs, a canopy walk and a viewing platform.

☑️ Entry Ticket The Habitat:

6. Stroll Around Clan Jetties in George Town
Located at the waterfront, this unique type of settlement was created by Chinese immigrants in the late 19th century. There are now six jetties you can visit, and Chew Jetty is the most popular one with many souvenir shops and places to eat.

5. Explore Little Indi
The temple Sri Mahamariamman marks the start of the area and behind it, you’ll find colorful streets with goldsmiths and stores selling sarees and trinkets. But what we loved the most was the tasty and authentic Indian food.

4. Discover The Buddhist Kek Lok Si Temple
Kek Lok Si is the largest Buddhist temple in Malaysia. The temple is made up of colorful prayer halls, beautiful gardens, ponds with fish and turtles, an impressive seven-tiered pagoda, and a large bronze statue of the Buddhist Goddess of compassion.

3. Hike At Penang National Park
Penang National Park is the smallest national park in Malaysia. There are 3 walking trails that cut through the jungle here. We decided to take the right fork to head to Monkey Beach, which is the most popular and easiest of the three trails as it’s relatively flat.

☑️ Monkey beach trail:

2. Sunbathe On Batu Ferringhi Beach
Batu Ferringhi Beach has powdery soft sands and turquoise waters to enjoy. It’s a great place to watch the sunset.

1.Balik Pulau Bike Ride
Balik Pulau is a hidden gem is covered by beautiful greenery, paddy fields, and rolling hills. It’s less populated and less developed than the rest of the island.

PENANG / MALAYSIA / A VISIT TO A WET MARKET IN TANJUNG TOKONG / Moonshine and Lemongrass / VLOG

Today I went back to one of the wet markets here in Tanjung Tokong on the beautiful Penang island. Lots of wet markets have been allowed to open some time ago since they are part of the really necessary places for every day life in Malaysia and for the Malaysian. In the beginning I went in without my face mask but I quickly realized that people are still afraid of Covid-19. And this rightfully so. It will still need some time and also some adjusting in our regular lives. We need to be prepared for other viruses/pandemics to come.

Jerry in Malaysia Episode 6: Tesco in Tanjung Tokong in Penang ( 말레이시아 페낭 테스코 쇼핑)

I would call him the concierge. He gave me lots of information about the area. There are dozens of Korean restaurants and grocery stores. He let me know there is Tesco in the neighborhood. Even though the studio was fully furnished, there were more things to be filled in. For the same reason I had chosen the studio, I chose Tesco for shopping. I wanted to save time.

I bought:
a rice cooker
sushi rice
vegetables
sesame oil
detergent
toothpaste
and so on.

I got all I needed.

I am Korean and Asian. A rice cooker and rice is must.
Oh, the rice cooker was 47.90 RM.
In US dollar, it is about 11 bucks.
한국돈으로 13,000원.
1,200 円ぐらいですね。
Cheap.
싸다.
安い!

From here, it's about my short introduction

I am Jerry from South Korea. I moved to Malaysia in July 2021. Just briefly revealing my life for the last decade, originally I was an English teacher in South Korea. I was more like a freelancing English instructor. I enjoyed the career. Having a few days off, I used to travel Japan. It was so much fun to find both similarities and differences between South Korea and Japan. Then, I started to learn Japanese to travel all around Japan more freely. Then, I felt like working in Japan. So, in 2018, I moved to Japan. I worked in hospitality businesses. I worked in a traditional hotel with great hot springs around in the countryside for one year. After one year, I got hired by a holding company in Fukuoka City which has several luxurious restaurants. I was in charge of serving overseas customers. It was so much fun, too. However, I had to go back to South Korea due to COVID19.

Now, I am in Malaysia. Arriving at the airport in KL, I felt I should start to make vlogs and share my experience with people I know and I don't know. The purpose of this vlog channel is very simple: sharing my experience and ideas I come up with in Malaysia.

But this vlog channel is not just about Malaysia. I took videos back home in South Korea and Japan, which ,without doubt, could be new and exciting to people from other areas including the friends I have made and will make in Malaysia. I hope the edited personal videos about South Korea and Japan can be helpful for them to make themselves more curious about both of the countries. They are worth knowing and visiting, I promise.

Lastly, as I named my vlog as 'Life and Immunology', I am going to deal with things related to our 'immunology' issues. It won't be professional things. I am not a nurse or doctor. Due to COVID19, our life got disrupted 180 degrees. I think we should prioritize the issue of 'immunology not only for our well-being but also for our survival. It is a vast issue. I have tried and will keep trying to do so as well. I am going to share my ideas and experiences about 'IMMUNOLOGY' from a holistic point of view.

Thank you!
Have a good day!

Straits Quay, Tanjung Tokong, Sea View - Penang, Malaysia

Straits Quay is situated at Jalan Seri Tanjung Pinang, Tanjung Tokong, George Town.
Straits Quay is a shopping mall-cum-marina in George Town, Penang, Malaysia. It is located at Seri Tanjung Pinang, a newly developed township that sits on reclaimed land within the George Town suburb of Tanjung Tokong. Opened in 2010, the seaside mall also consists of a marina designed for small recreational vessels, as well as a convention centre.

Royal Selangor, a Malaysian pewter manufacturer, maintains an outlet within the mall. There is also a Performing Arts Centre within the mall. In addition, Straits Quay includes luxurious serviced apartments called The Suites @ Straits Quay, which are managed by the Eastern & Oriental Hotel, a colonial seaside hotel located within the heart of George Town.
Straits Quay has a net space of 270,000 sq ft and two floors which house a total of 100 shop lots. Various retail choices and eateries are available here, including Starbucks, Fruuze, Papparich, Subway, Bran et Daguet, Switch and Royal Selangor.

A Sam's Groceria supermarket is also available at the ground floor.

In general, the retail choices in the mall cater more to lifestyle, personal care and home furnishing. Shoppers and visitors can get to have a meal at one of the seaside cafes, restaurants and bars that offer an impressive view of the expanse of the Malacca Straits.

Every weekend, a bargain market is held within Straits Quay, where cheaper brands and items can be purchased from about 50 stalls.
The Straits Quay Marina consists of 40 pontoon berths that can accommodate yachts and other recreational boats between 10 and 25 metres in length. The entrance of the marina has been dredged to a depth of 3 metres below sea level.

The marina also contains the Straits Quay Convention Centre (SQCC), making it one of the venues of choice within Penang for meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE). Spanning 25,300 sq ft (2,350 m2), SQCC has a capacity of up to 150 standard exhibition booths, 2,300 delegates in a theatre setting or 1,800 guests in a banquet setting.

Sailors and tourists can stay at The Suites @ Straits Quay, the 217 luxurious serviced apartment suites just above the shopping mall.

The Performing Arts Centre of Penang (Penangpac) is housed at the 4th floor of Straits Quay, also above the shopping mall. It is equipped with a 303-seater proscenium stage, a 160-seater black box theatre, studios and gallery spaces. The arts centre, which was launched in 2011, was envisioned as the main venue within northern Malaysia for the arts, from films to street art performances.

Best of Penang: Dawn in Tanjung Tokong

Tanjung Tokong is a suburb of George Town in Penang. It is located along the north-eastern coast of Penang Island, next to Pulau Tikus and 7km away from George Town. Over the recent decades, the former fishing village has been transformed into an upper class residential suburb of George Town, with high-rises such as Straits Quay lining the coast.
The area had already been inhabited for decades prior to Captain Francis Light's founding of Penang Island in 1786. Tanjung Tokong was believed to be the site of the first Chinese settlement on Penang Island. At present, the reclamation of land is on-going off the shores of Tanjung Tokong, creating a new township - Seri Tanjung Pinang.

BEACH BUNGALOW PENANG / Found surprising accomodation in fishing village /TANJUNG TOKONG / MALAYSIA

This morning on my stroll along the Straight Quay Marina Bays I got to a fishing village where they are building new tourist bungalows. Seems a very good place to be staying since it is a real fishing village and not some resort.
