This 7-day Amazon Jungle Peru Wildlife Tour is a moderately-paced trip available on request tour to one of the most biodiverse ecosystems the Amazon has to offer, the Manu area of southeast Peru. In an area half the size of Switzerland there are some 1,005 different bird species (60% of Perú's total bird count) plus hundreds of different mammals, reptiles, insects and plants.
Manu's forests contain numerous different types of habitat, starting at 11,151 feet above sea level with the cloud forests of the Cuzco region and descending to the lowland rainforests and ox bow lakes of the Madre de Dios River valley. Our Amazon Jungle Peru Wildlife Tour begins when our guide picks you up from your hotel in Cuzco and a visit to the wetlands of Lake Huacarpay. Tambo del Inka & Machu Picchu, Peru - Travel Vlog
We arrived at the Tambo del Inka Resort & Spa and had an awesome authentic Peruvian dinner (Lomo Saltado). We rested our bellies for a bit, then went swimming at the pool and warmed up and relaxed at the jacuzzi before heading to bed. We woke up early in the morning, boarded the Peru Rail train and headed up to Aguas Calientes and then Machu Picchu. The set-up was a bit confusing at Aguas Calientes to buy the bus ticket but thankfully we arrived quite early which gave us just enough time to figure it out. Also had enough time to wrap my ankle up after I twisted it right before purchasing the bus tickets (this is what made us purchase them since we were planning on hiking it up), then tried local beer Cusquena and Pisco Sour to ease the pain from my ankle a bit (at least that was my excuse lol)
Things that we learned:
- Peru rail is not worth the $$, if you can find an alternate transportation, do that instead.
- Buy your Machu Picchu tickets in advance and make sure your tickets don't say pending, processing or anything like that. That happened to us because somehow the website didn't process the payment correctly but yet, it let us print an incomplete ticket. We didn't realize this until it was time to board the bus, therefore, I had to run (with a messed up ankle) to the Centro Cultural to purchase the tickets again. Thankfully, we were able to purchase them right on time.
- If you are wondering where to purchase the bus tickets, just follow the yellow arrows painted in the middle of road.
- You won't be able to board the bus until about 30 minutes prior to the time printed on your Machu Picchu entrance tickets.
