ROADTRIP - Tagoloan - Malitbog - Claveria
Our road trip took us from Cagayan de Oro City on the coastal road to Tagoloan. Here we turned right after the bridge over the Tagoloan River to get to Sta. Ana and on to Malitbog in Bukidnon province. I remembered this road as being very bad in parts years ago and it was almost developed.
In the municipality of Malitbog, the fiesta festivities were in full swing. Many people on the road at the imposing cultural centre. There, the stands were packed with spectators waiting for the basketball teams to enter.
We had the opportunity to visit the new tourist office, which was beautifully decorated with Lumad figures and Lumad souvenirs.
We continued to San Luis and asked our way from here to Claveria, to the barangay Lanise and there to the N 955. From here, we wanted to continue via barangay Mat-i to JULIO's Bar and Restaurant with a great view of the valley.
This part of the route was new territory for me, too, and there are some roads here that are good or not so good, and some parts are still more like dirt roads, but new roads are being built. So we were allowed to experience adventurous river crossings and partly also a car ride in the clouds and above the clouds, on a rainy day with an exceedingly lush green landscape.
Finally, we reached our destination for the day, JULIO's, and had something to eat there, coffee and cake from a rich and balanced food and drink menu at reasonable prices. As we made our way home, the weather once again showed itself to be merciful and allowed us to catch a glimpse of some of the beautiful valley scenery.
The return journey then took us along the N 955 via the zig-zag road down to the coast to Villanueva. When we passed through Tagoloan, it was already dark and the Christmas lights at Rizal Park and the Plaza in the dense evening traffic were once again beautiful impressions.
It was a fantastic afternoon in Mindanao.

Cagayan de Oro (CDO), officially the City of Cagayan de Oro (Cebuano: Dakbayan sa Cagayan de Oro; Filipino: Lungsod ng Cagayan de Oro), is a 1st class highly urbanized city in the region of Northern Mindanao, Philippines. It is the capital of the province of Misamis Oriental where it is geographically situated but governed administratively independent from the provincial government. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 728,402 people. Cagayan de Oro also serves as the regional center and business hub of Northern Mindanao, and part of the growing Metropolitan Cagayan de Oro area, which includes the city of El Salvador, the towns of Opol, Alubijid, Laguindingan, Gitagum, Lugait, Naawan, Initao, Libertad and Manticao at the western side, and the towns of Tagoloan, Villanueva, Jasaan, Claveria and Balingasag at the eastern side.
Cagayan de Oro is located along the north central coast of Mindanao island facing Macajalar Bay and is bordered by the municipalities of Opol to the west, Tagoloan to the east, and the provinces of Bukidnon and Lanao del Norte to the south of the city. According to the 2020 census, the city has a population of 728,402, making it the 10th most populous city in the Philippines.
Cagayan de Oro is also famous for its white water rafting or kayaking adventures, one of the tourism activities being promoted along the Cagayan de Oro River.
