Places to see in ( Imperia - Italy )
Imperia is Liguria's westernmost province. It borders on Piedmont to the north, the Province of Savona to the east, and France to the west. To the south, it is lapped by the Ligurian Sea. The Provincial Capital is Imperia (41,500 residents) but the most populated town is San Remo (56,000 residents). The sea and the mountains are so close that the area hosts four mountain communities: Comunità dell'Olivo, Alta Valle Arroscia, Argentina Armea and Montana Intemelia. The name Imperia stems from the Impero River, which divides the former opposing villages of Porto Maurizio and Oneglia, now united into one town. In May 1945, the territory was occupied for a month by de Gaulle’s French army, the so-called Tirailleurs.
The stretch of coast belonging to Imperia Province is also known as the Riviera dei Fiori, the Flower Riviera, characterized by bays, ports and coves that become valleys, creeks and peaks standing above 984 ft. The sea of the Riviera is known for a mild climate, even in winter. At a short distance from the coast, behind the hills are valleys and pristine woods. Imperia is well-known for its many agro-alimentary firms that produce oil and pasta (although in time its economy has shifted towards services and tourism), and olive groves are still widespread throughout the territory.
Visit the Provincial Capital's central Via Bonfante with its arcades, and Galleria Isnardi and Galleria degli Orti with the most exclusive boutiques. Along the marina and behind the harbor is old Oneglia, with the old fishermen’s houses and the Palazzo dei Doria, the former lords of the town. Imperia's eastern border reveals the remnants of the 17th-Century walls, originally commissioned by the Savoia family.
Nearby lies the Church of the Annunziata with its neoclassical façade, and the 18th-Century Scolopi Complex. The Duomo di San Maurizio, also in the Neoclassical style, is just outside the historic center. The Naval Museum is also in Piazza del Duomo. The most popular beach along the Province's Riviera is Spiaggia d’Oro, or Golden Beach, in the port area of Borgo Marina, yet every community - from Imperia, Bordighera, and Arma di Taggia to Diano Marina and Ospedaletti - offers gorgeous and sunny beaches.
Noteworthy among the best inland destinations are Dolceacqua (with the overlooking Doria Castle, which can be reached through a scenic bridge over the Nervia River), Pigna (an art and spa hub), Rocchetta Nervina (with its many small lakes, the best initiation point for a hike), Perinaldo (famous for the Cassini Observatory) and Pieve di Teco (with its characteristic arcades).
San Remo, the city of flowers, is home to the 1905 Casino, where every year the Festival della Canzone Italiana (Italian song festival) is held. Ventimiglia is the town nearest to the border with France, and to the visitor it reveals its dual personalities: the archaeological town from the Roman period, an open-air museum with a theatre still in pristine conditions, the Provenza Portal, the thermal baths and mosaics; and the Medieval town, on the Roia River's right bank, characterized by monumental walls, the Cathedral of the Assunta, the octagonal-plan Baptistery and the Convent of the Canonichesse Lateranensi. Worth visiting is also the Salvini di Pieve di Teco Theater, the world’s smallest theatre.
Imperia Province displays extraordinary flora: from the world-famous palms of Bordighera to the terraces covered with vineyards and olive groves, that lend their incredible colors to the Nervia Valley. Similarly, the trees on the Olivo Hills alternate with homes and villages. Finally, the valleys between Liguria and Piedmont - such as Argentina, Armea and Arroscia - boast plenty of natural resources that decorate the remains of ancient settlements.

San Remo is the capital of the Riviera of Flowers and this can also be seen in its artistic and architectural style. The city is essentially Liberty (Art Nouveau) in style as its hotels, villas and casino clearly show. During the “Belle Epoque” period, San Remo experienced a moment of strong growth and refinement of housing: 190 villas and 25 hotels were built from 1874 to 1906.
Sanremo is the largest city in the Riviera of Flowers and therefore, in addition to having beautiful beaches, it also has a lot of more or less hidden things to see. In this city history prevails, culture and l 'architecture.
The resort town of San Remo was an important social center around the 19th century and a popular resort until the middle of the 20th century, and much of the houses and hotels you can see in the town date from this period.

HISTORICAL CENTER AND ITS PIGNE
The historic center of Sanremo is a visual witness to the ancient history of the city, founded in Roman times, the Villa Matuzia, then developed in medieval times in its characteristic form of Pigne as the fruit (name derived precisely from its resemblance to a pine cone) until arriving between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries at a City of the Season, that is to say a city with a fairly mild climate.
Since the end of the 19th century, its history and urban planning have expanded, seeing the emergence of Belle Epoque style structures, of which the Grand Hotel & Des Anglais is a part, becoming a tourist destination on the Grand Tour and welcoming many historical figures. and artists like Winston Churchil, Gabriele D'annunzio, Guglielmo Marconi, Alfred Nobel.
The site of Sanremo was inhabited very early in history, as evidenced by the remains of human settlements dating from the Paleolithic. It was in Roman times that the city began to develop significantly. It was founded along the Via Julia Augusta, probably so called by Caius Matutius, who had built a sumptuous villa around the ancient oppidum (near the current casino). Another interpretation refers to the deity of Asian origin Mater Matuta, goddess of the dawn, whose name would therefore have become Matutia then Villa Matutiæ.
Whatever its origin, it is nevertheless certain that after the conversion of the population to Catholicism by Saint Orsmida and the hermit Saint Romolo, in the ninth century the city was continually attacked by Saracen pirates, who forced the population to take refuge in the mountains.

Imperia is a lovely coastal city on the Liguria coast between the French border and Genoa. The city was formed by grouping Porto Maurizio, Oneglio and some surrounding villages in 1923 at the decree of Mussolini.
The pretty, touristic side of the city is based around Porto Maurizio whilst Oneglio is more devoted to the production of olives and flowers. Between the two centres is the river Imperia after which the city was named.
TAGGIA (IM): Uno dei Borghi più Belli d'Italia | Borghi da visitare in Liguria
TAGGIA, uno dei più antichi ed illustri centri della Riviera di Ponente.
Ricca di storia e di tradizioni popolari, Taggia presenta una caratteristica struttura medioevale, con torri e mura, e vanta numerose opere d’arte conservate nelle sue chiese. Tutta costruita in verticale, con ripide scalinate e brusche variazioni di livello che creano suggestivi scorci, presenta ben tre tipi di mura, e nel suo cuore si giunge varcando la Porta dell’Orso.
Questa località dà il nome alla più celebre varietà di oliva ligure, la “taggiasca”, poiché la tradizione vuole che i monaci benedettini abbiano qui introdotto, nel lontano XII secolo, la coltura dell’olivo. Risalire lungo il percorso dei torrenti partendo dalle località della costa è forse il modo migliore di procedere alla scoperta dell’entroterra ligure.
La Valle Argentina non fa eccezioni e offre infatti a chi voglia addentrarvisi in cerca natura e storia, colori e sapori caratteristici.
L'ultimo fine settimana di Febbraio si tengono i festeggiamenti di San Benedetto.
La domenica mattina, alle ore 10.30, i Taggiaschi, indossano i costumi medioevali, e, nei vari Rioni hanno luogo rievocazioni di avvenimenti salienti, e di vita quotidiana delXVII secolo.
La rievocazione della storica processione, ha invece luogo nel pomeriggio, a partire dalle ore15.30.
Al ristorante Terra e Mare potrete inoltre gustare la migliore tradizione ligure e non solo.

Arma di Taggia is the coastal side of Taggia, a comune (municipality) in the Province of Imperia in the Italian region Liguria, located about 110 kilometres (68 miles) southwest of Genoa and about 15 km (9 mi) west of Imperia. It has around 13,000 inhabitants. Taggia borders the following municipalities: Badalucco, Castellaro, Ceriana, Dolcedo, Pietrabruna, Riva Ligure, and Sanremo.

Una giornata a TAGGIA
Cosa vi piacerebbe conoscere, in vacanza ad Arma di Taggia in Liguria? Vi piacerebbe visitare un Borgo, a pochi km dal mare? magari con tanta varietà di scelta?
Ci sembra che Taggia faccia al caso vostro.
il paese è situato all'imbocco della Valle Argentina, a 4 km dal mare e volendo trascorrere una giornata alternativa ai bagni al mare, qui si trovano, arte, cultura, tradizioni culinarie molto interessati.
Le olive taggiasche, l'olio extravergine, che condisce tutte le pietanze, i canestrelli, ciambelle croccanti fatte a forma di anello, che vengono prodotte anche in versione dolce.
Merita inoltre, visitare i produttori del vino Moscatello di Taggia, antico vitigno riportato alla luce dai produttori locali.
Da Arma di Taggia si dirama, la pista ciclabile, che in un percorso totalmente in piano, vi porterà a questo Borgo, senza l'uso di altri mezzi e in pochi minuti. Se poi vi volete cimentare in una pedalata più consistente, ricordate che la ciclabile S. Lorenzo al Mare - Ospedaletti, è a vostra disposizione, 24 km di pista a bordo mare, magari per digerire un buon pranzo.
