Uncover Maré, New Caledonia’s best kept secret

????

As the most easterly of the Loyalty Islands, Maré is the first to welcome the morning sun, the caress of the trade winds and the beginning of the yam season. Taking out the title of the highest island in the New Caledonian archipelago, it also happens to be the second largest in the Loyalty Islands, remaining largely untouched by the outside world. Boasting breathtaking beauty, unforgettable experiences, and unmatched serenity, you’ll find that there’s nowhere else quite like Maré.
Wild by nature, the island’s landscapes effortlessly combine the spectacle of steep cliffs and dense, dark forests with fine sand coves and impressive rocky headlands.
Shabadran Terraces: Bordered by tall palms and striking coral cliffs, it is the postcard-perfect white sands and secluded setting that have led it to be described as one of the world’s most beautiful beaches. Stroll along the sands and take ample time to soak up the beauty of this wonderful corner of the globe. The hike is best suited to experienced walkers, with good hiking shoes a must.
Wabao Bay: Remained largely untouched by development, Wabao Bay is the perfect place to disconnect from the day-to-day demands of modern life. Find your own stretch of sugar white sand, lay down your beach towel and watch the waves roll in.
Bone hole: Situated around 3 km from La Roche, the Trou de Bone sinkhole is considered to be one of the largest of its kind. Around 40 metres in depth, the natural landmark, also known as the Bone Hole, is filled with clear waters that allow you to see far into the sinkhole below. The site also happens to be well known for creating an impressive echo, so be sure to test out the acoustics during your visit.
Natural Aquarium: Located to the south of Tadine, Maré’s Aquarium Naturelle (natural aquarium) is one of the island’s incredible attractions. Home to crystal clear waters and surrounded by lush vegetation, it’s a true natural marvel. Keep an eye out for the incredible marine species that call the waters home, from a variety of colourful fish to turtles.
Warrior’s Leap is a worthy addition to any island itinerary, pairing incredible scenery with a local legend that is just as captivating. Rising close to 30 metre above the ocean, the gorge is said to have acted as an escape route for a warrior cornered by enemies - a heroic feat that shouldn’t be replicated by even the most athletic of visitors.
Visit a local tribe: Local tribes will open their doors to you, providing an affordable, and unforgettable, accommodation option. While staying with a tribe, guests generally sleep in typical Melanesian huts set slightly apart from the family house. The clay or cement floor huts have mats for sleeping and a traditional hearth in the centre. Cooking and showering facilities are housed in separate buildings. Kanak families welcoming you to their tribe will share their customs, their way of life and their know-how during your stay, allowing you to learn more about traditional life in New Caledonia. An experience quite unlike any other, the time spent getting to know the locals certainly won’t be forgotten any time soon. Look forward to activities such as traditional fishing, pandanus plaiting (making baskets, mats and more), preparing bougna (a traditional Kanak dish) and visiting yam plantations.

Shopping in Noumea

This was located in the heart of the city and is very famous with cruise ship passengers. Shop owners accept Aussie dollars and most of the products are quoted in dollars. There are quite a few articrafts, souvenirs, magnets, paintings etc, located at reasonable prices. Also, you will find quite a few travel options to the tourist attractions like Lemon Bay, Anse Vata and the Aquarium.

NOUMEA NEW CALEDONIA Nouvelle-Calédonie Kanaky, Le caillou ISLANDS

New Caledonia is a sui generis collectivity (in practice an overseas territory) of France, made up of a main island (Grande Terre) and several smaller islands. It is located in the region of Melanesia in the southwest Pacific. At about half the size of Taiwan, it has a land area of 18,575.5 square kilometres (7,172 sq mi). The population at the 2004 census was 230,789 inhabitants. The capital and largest city of the territory is Nouméa. The currency is the CFP franc. Since 1986 the United Nations Committee on Decolonization has included New Caledonia on the United Nations list of Non-Self-Governing Territories, a highly political list that is disputed by France, Morocco, the United States, and the United Kingdom, which all have territories on the list. The list is partial and controversial because it does not cover all peoples and territorial entities in the world which are neither sovereign countries nor part of any sovereign country. New Caledonia will decide whether to remain within the French Republic or become an independent state in a referendum sometime after 2014. Its capital Nouméa is the seat of the regional organization the Secretariat of the Pacific Community (formerly the South Pacific Commission). WIKIPEDIA

Tender boat transfer - Marella Discovery to St Raphael, France

For a cruise excursion to Monaco, passengers on this cruise boarded small tender boats and left the ship anchored off the coast of the small seaside town of St Raphael on the Cote D Azur.
Coaches then shuttled everyone to Monaco/Monte Carlo for an amazing day in this historic city and playground of the rich and famous (check out that video on our channel here).
A return in the late afternoon allowed time to relax on the balcony and take in the stunning panoramic views of the coast in the warm October sunshine of the Mediterranean

Just a short video of shore to ship real time on board a ships tender at Lifou in December 2017 while on a 10 night Christmas Cruise on board the P&O Pacific Explorer.

Oh No! My Daughter Missed the Tender!

After a burrito breakfast, my daughter and the Three Stoogettes eat a disappointing breakfast in the dining room. We boarded a tender In Grand Cayman. I watched them disappear in a taxi and thought the worst. Things get boring as I waited for them to board our ship Carnival Glory...and waited...and
