【4K】BORY CASTLE in Székesfehérvár, Hungary - Grand Tour

Hello and welcome to this 4K tour of the Bory Castle, one of the main and top attractions not only in Székesfehérvár but also in the whole of Hungary.

The story of the castle started in 1912 when Jenő Bory bought the one acre land in Maria Valley near Székesfehérvár. It only had a little wine cellar and they spent their summer holidays there. He decided to build the castle after the project of the Church of Francis Ferdinand and the Sophia Home in Sarajevo failed due to World War I. He considered the castle his own work of art, a statue, rather than just a building. It had no plans, he just extended it year by year. This oversized home with its numerous decorations is a special example of Hungarian symbolic architecture. Even its layout is emblematical as its two centres, the Chapel and the Studio Gallery, symbolize two cardinal elements of Jenő Bory’s life. Several hundred statues which were made with the most diverse techniques can be seen in the castle. Paintings cover the walls, there are mosaics inside and outside of the building, glass paintings and fountains appear in the most unpredictable places. Enjoy the video!

Székesfehérvár Old Town Walk. Amazing one street town!!! WOW! - Székesfehérvár Hungary - ECTV

Székesfehérvár (Hungarian: [ˈseːkɛʃfɛheːrvaːr] (listen); German: Stuhlweißenburg [ʃtuːlˈvaɪsn̩bʊʁk] (listen), Latin: Alba Regia), known colloquially as Fehérvár (white castle), is a city in central Hungary, and the country's ninth-largest city. It is the regional capital of Central Transdanubia, and the centre of Fejér County and Székesfehérvár District. The area is an important rail and road junction between Lake Balaton and Lake Velence.

Székesfehérvár, a royal residence (székhely),[3] as capital of the Kingdom of Hungary, held a central role in the Middle Ages. As required by the Doctrine of the Holy Crown, the first kings of Hungary were crowned and buried here.[4] Significant trade routes led to the Balkans and Italy, and to Buda and Vienna. Historically the city has come under Ottoman and Habsburg control, and was known in many languages by translations of white castle – Croatian: Stolni Biograd, German: Stuhlweißenburg, Latin: Alba Regia, Ottoman Turkish: İstolni Belgrad, Serbian: Stoni Beograd, Slovak: Stoličný Belehrad.

Pre-Hungarian
The place has been inhabited since the 5th century BC. In Roman times the settlements were called Gorsium and Herculia. After the Migration Period Fejér County was the part of the Avar Khaganate,[6] while the Slavic and Great Moravian presence is disputed. (There is no source for the name of the place before the late 10th century.) In the Middle Ages its Latin name was Alba Regalis/Alba Regia. The town was an important traffic junction between Lake Balaton and Lake Velence, several trade routes led from here to the Balkans and Italy, and to Buda and Vienna. (Today, the town is a junction of seven railroad lines.)

Grand Prince Géza of the Árpád dynasty was the nominal overlord of all seven Magyar tribes but in reality ruled only part of the united territory. He aimed to integrate Hungary into Christian Western Europe by rebuilding the state according to the Western political and social models. Géza founded the Hungarian town in 972 on four moorland islands between the Gaja stream and its tributary, the Sárvíz, one of the most important Hungarian tributaries of the Danube. He also had a small stone castle built. Székesfehérvár was first mentioned in a document by the Bishopric of Veszprém, 1009, as Alba Civitas.

Stephen I of Hungary granted town rights to the settlement, surrounded the town with a plank wall, and founded a school and a monastery.[7] Under his rule the construction of the Romanesque Székesfehérvár Basilica began (it was built between 1003 and 1038). The settlement had about 3,500 inhabitants at this time and was the royal seat for hundreds of years. 43 kings were crowned in Székesfehérvár (the last one in 1526) and 15 kings were buried here (the last one in 1540). In the 12th century, the town prospered, churches, monasteries, and houses were built. It was an important station on the pilgrim route to the Holy Land. András II issued the Golden Bull here in 1222. The Bull included the rights of nobles and the duties of the king, and the Constitution of Hungary was based on it until 1848. It is often compared to England's Magna Carta.

During the Mongol Invasion of Hungary (1241–1242), the invaders could not get close to the castle: Kadan ruled[clarification needed] Mongol warriors could not get through the surrounding marshes because of flooding caused by melting snow. In the 13th–15th centuries, the town prospered, and several palaces were built. In the 14th century, Székesfehérvár was surrounded by city walls.

After the death of King Mátyás (1490), the German army of 20,000 men of Maximilian invaded Hungary. They advanced into the heart of Hungary and captured the city of Székesfehérvár, which he sacked, as well as the tomb of King Mátyás, which was kept there. His Landsknechts were still unsatisfied with the plunder and refused to go for taking[clarification needed] Buda. He returned to the Empire in late December and the Hungarian troops liberated Székesfehérvár in the next year.[8]

Ottoman period
19th century Serbian Quarter preserved in the middle of Székesfehérvár
The Ottomans conquered the city after a long siege in 1543 and only after a sally ended in most of the defenders including the commander, György Varkoch, being locked out by wealthy citizens fearing they might incur the wrath of the Ottomans by a lengthy siege.

Except for a short period in 1601 when Székesfehérvár was reconquered by an army led by Lawrence of Brindisi, the city remained under Ottoman administration for 145 years, until 1688,[9] with the Ottomans being preoccupied with the Morean War.

Bory Castle - Hungary - Székesfehérvár

Jenő Bory's goal was to create something eternal for his love. Since then, the castle has been a symbol of dreams, conjugal love and creativity. Just like the construction of Europe's most beautiful Gothic churches, this castle also required faith that was not written in sand. He sought to prove his steadfast love, if not in God, but in some higher power and existence. For him, this was love.
The history of Bory Castle
The building was built between 1923 and 1964
The group of buildings was created by the sculptor, architect and painter Jenő Bory in the mid-1900s. Some built it alone for more than 35 years and worked on it until his death. He bought the plot in 1912, when it was just fruit trees and grapes with a wine cellar.
The rudimentary castle that was built later served as the home of the Bory family and as a studio for the artist and his wife (who was also a painter).

Székesfehérvár Trip

Our annual side trip stayed within Hungary this year. We travelled by train to Székesfehérvár, the original capital of Hungary. For several hundred years kings were crowned, resided, and were buried here. But in 1543 the city was taken by the Ottomans who destroyed most of the city, demolished the cathedral and the royal palace, and pillaged the graves of kings in the cathedral. We were able to see some of the original stone walls of the basilica underground.
Most of the current city was re-built in the 18th century. The city also has an abundance of statues of heroes – and one old lady selling milk and cream. We also traversed Lépscő Utca – Staircase Street – which is exactly that.

Exploring Outskirt of Budapest-Székesfehérvár

This video will take you on a journey to explore the 9th Largest City of Hungary, just an hour journey from Budapest. It will give you a glimpse of the Soviet Architecture Buildings and WW1 & WWII memorial.

The Video relating to Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship will come after 16th November when the application will be open finally.

In love, and safety - with this slogan, the Advent Basilica, Budapest's uniquely beautiful Christmas fair, opens its doors. Last year, in the online voting of the European Best Destinations, the series of events chosen as the most beautiful Christmas market in Europe awaits its visitors from November 20 until the first day of the new year in front of St. Stephen's Basilica in one of the most impressive squares of the Hungarian capital.

True to the tradition of this year's 10-year-old Advent Basilica, it promises an unparalleled festive atmosphere, quality pastimes, a special gastronomic offer and a more colorful program than ever before - all with safety measures that allow for cloudless celebrations during a coronavirus epidemic.

More than 100 artisan and gastronomic vendor offers its portico, the latter in addition to the popular fair food, as well as many delicacies available only here.

The spectacularly decorated atmosphere of the fair itself is completed by the highly successful lightshow projected on the Basilica in recent years.

The organizers will once again set up the interactive self-point, which debuted with great success last year. Entrepreneurial shoppers can conjure a unique pattern on the facade of the Basilica to then take a photo and post the work they have created themselves.

In addition to a number of family and children's programs, a free ice rink with skates can be set up for children from 20 November.

Organizers place great emphasis on coronavirus epidemic prevention. Mandatory use for hand sanitizers and masks which willbe available at several exhibitors, disposable socks for rink users, a thermal camera to monitor the fair as a whole, and qualified medical staff and a covid tent are planned for a safe stay.
