Things to do in Malaysia | Top Attractions Travel Guide

When I think of the most under-rated countries to visit in SE Asia Malaysia comes to mind. With a rich culture and diversity - unlike any other nation in Southeast Asia - there is something for everyone. Some of my favorite places to visit in Malaysia include Kuala Lumpur, Malacca, Penang and the Cameron Highlands. The following is a top attractions travel guide for the best things to do in Malaysia:

1) Few architectural wonders can compete with the Petronas Towers. Equally as impressive by day as they are at night, it is an absolute must landmark to visit in Kuala Lumpur.

2) Night markets in Malaysia are well worth a visit. My personal favorite is the Jonker Street Night Market located in Melaka. On the weekends Jonker street shuts down to traffic and turns into a sea of people and stalls selling everything from trinkets to street food. While we were there we made sure to cool down with Cendol, which is our favorite Malaysian street food snack.

3) The Batu Caves are of my favorite attractions that is absolutely free! Taking the commuter train from KL Sentral we arrived early in the morning before all of the package tourists. The caves themselves, an important Hindu shrine dedicated to Lord Murugan, are worth the 272 step climb to the top. You'll notice many of cheeky monkeys.

4) The KL Bird Park is a quirky attraction worth checking out. Its claim to fame is being the largest walk in aviary. Home to thousands of birds you'll be able to spot peacocks, flamingos and many other exotic ones.

5) While you're in Georgetown, Penang consider visiting a recently opened cat cafe! The Purrfect Cat Cafe in George Town is home to some adorable cats.

6) Whenever I head back to Malaysia I can't help but break out in a smile because I know I'm going to get a chance to eat dim sum.

7) When I mentioned Malaysia was a diverse country, I was referring to the people and cuisine. Indian food is one of my favorite cuisines and having the opportunity to eat a delicious banana leaf thali set is something I wouldn't miss for the world. Loaded up with rice, dal, vegetables, roti, papad, chutney and pickles. Coming in at only 22 Ringgit (for the two of us) it's an inexpensive but delicious meal.

8) Want to visit the biggest Buddhist temple in all of Southeast Asia? Would you be surprised to learn that it is in Malaysia? Kek Lok Si temple, also known as the Temple of Supreme Bliss, is located in Air Itam. The temple combines Mahayana Buddhism and Chinese rituals. To visit take bus 201, 203 or 204 from Komplex Komptar in the heart of George Town, Penang.

9) The Petronas Towers are brilliant by day but 'wow' do they ever shine bright at night. They have really cool light shows.

10) You can't visit Malaysia without having Roti Canai for breakfast, lunch, dinner and/or a snack. An Indian flat bread, similar to a pancake, it comes in all different sizes, shapes and flavors. Our two favorites being cheese and banana.

11) While in Malacca it's a great idea to take a Melaka River Cruise at night as the city really lights up at night. You'll notice wonderful old colonial architecture and street art along with traditional homes alongside the Kampong.

12) The Clan Jetties are an important part of George Town's heritage and the last bastions of old Chinese settlements.

13) Georgetown is one of the most hot and humid cities I've ever visited. If you're looking to escape that for a while head over to the Botanical Gardens just outside of the city. In shady conditions you'll have the opportunity to walk around this massive park where you'll surely spot monkeys and other wildlife.

14) When visiting Malacca be sure to check out a Baba-Nyonya restaurant. A mixture of Chinese and Malaysian cuisine at its finest. Some of our favorite dishes included Nyonya Laksa, Rojak and Popiah.

15) Bling. Bling. That's not the sound of a horn but instead the decorations on a rickshaw in George Town. For around 30 to 40 Ringgit you can take a full one hour city tour. It certainly beats walking around in the heat. Highlights for us included going through Little India.

Orang panggil Klebang desert. Sebenarnya ini tinggalan kerja menambak pantai

Sg Udang Fishing Village: Fresh seafood market/ restaurant 1 hour away from Penang near Nibong Tebal

Google Maps Link:
Sungai Udang is a fishing village on the mainland of Penang state near Nibong Tebal. It is about 1.5 hours away from Penang island by car. We drove there on a Wednesday morning to buy some fresh seafood and also to have lunch at Restoran HK 海景顺利海鲜.
The seafood market is at a dead end next to HK, so you may need to park a hundred meters or so before the dead end. Bring your own icebox or styrofoam container if you plan to buy seafood. Ice is available at the market. There are also lots of coffeeshops along the main road with laksa and other noodles. Mornings only, recommended time to reach is at 10.30am.

Things to do in Kuching City - 3 Days Travel in capital of Sarawak Borneo Malaysia

This video bring you along to my 3 days travel in the capital of Sarawak Borneo Malaysia, the Kuching City. Follow me to explore the best things to do in Kuching CIty, visiting must visit places, try the best local Kuching food and some adventure in national park. Hope this video useful to be your Kuching travel guide.

Borneo is one of the largest islands in the world. This big island is consist of 2 countries; Malaysia and Indonesia. 2 states Sarawak and Sabah belongs to Malaysia while Kalimantan belongs to Indonesia. As for now, Kuching City is the largest city in Borneo and is the best gateway access to Borneo adventure.

I travel to Kuching Sarawak Borneo Malaysia via flight from Kuala Lumpur Malaysia. There might be some direct flight from international destination so do check your local flight provider for the info. To enable a maximized Kuching travel i travel in the evening so I reach Kuching Sarawak in the night. This enables my next day trip a full day available for my exploration.

So what to do in Kuching City? First up, let's visit Cat Museum. Kuching in Malay language quite resembles the word “Kucing” where “Kuching” means cat. Therefore in Kuching City, the cat is considered as a symbol of the city thus a dedicated museum for the cat. The location of this museum also in higher altitude therefore a spectacular panorama of Kuching City.

Orang Utan is one of the protected species in Sarawak Borneo. There are conservation and protection effort from the government. So the next things to do in Kuching City will be a visit to Semenggoh Wildlife Center. This is a must visit spot during your Kuching travel. Come here in the morning or afternoon, there is high chances you able to witness orang utan feeding times. The feeding time is 9-10am and 3-4pm so plan your time well.

This is another awesome must visit spot in Kuching trip. Sarawak is famous of the indigenous tribe and here all these cultures, traditional houses, dresses, dances are available for exploration. There is even a cultural show at 11.30 am and 4pm. So do plan your time well.

There is a national park in Kuching. It is called Bako National Park. This protected park has a variety of rainforest, flora and fauna to be explored. But one thing that attracts me the most is the Proboscis Monkey, which is famous for its big nose. There are many trails to be explored but since there is limited time in my 3 days Kuching travel, I have to choose the short and high chance to see Proboscis monkey. I chose the Teluk Paku Trail where it leads to a beach and Proboscis sighting is frequent here. The time here was brief but I manage to see Proboscis at last.

Next we went for our dinner. I heard that there is a place that serve the freshest seafood but it is out of town. With my rented car, I drive all the way to seek for the freshest taste. And we finally reach the destination, Muara Tebas Seafood. The food live up to what I have heard. I order seafood with cooking style with minimum flavouring, boiled prawn, raw oysters, steam fish. What is freshness? The meat taste sweet even without flavoring or minimum flavoring.

I travel back to Kuching city, the waterfront particularly to enjoy the night walk. Next day, I cross river with the local sampan to reach my next target, Fort Margherita. Next to the fort, is the DUN where State Legislative Assemblies will be held. This is a very beautiful building, another symbol of Kuching Sarawak. Just next to the DUN is the Astana Sarawak aka Sarawak Palace. This is the place where the Sarawak Governor resides.

The final leg of my Kuching trip bring me to a Chinese temple Tua Pek Kong, India Streets and a wonderful boat ride along the Sarawak River.

We met another friendly local who offered to show us around his village in Sarawak Malaysia. The lovely and unique village was near a small town called Mukah, in which we stopped for a night during our Borneo Malaysia road trip. It ended up being a super interesting and fun experience in this village!
