Sumbawa Travel vlog. This place is magical! This place should be on your bucket list! We just spent a few days on the incredible island of Sumbawa in Indonesia on the west coast exploring. Here is day 1 of the travel vlog on Sumbawa. We had some of the best snorkeling in the world - absolutely mind blowing!!! Highly recommend coming around here. We stay by Ketrasari at Whales & Waves. Few more options on the west of Sumbawa by Maluk. Sumbawa is also very famous for surfing but when we came there were no waves as the moon just changed!

Maluk Beach, West Sumbawa, Indonesia - Best Travel Destination
West Sumbawa, West Nusa Tenggara, has attractions such as the beach is not less beautiful than the beaches in Bali. The beach is called the beach Maluk Maluk located in the village, District Jereweh, West Sumbawa regency. Maluk Beach tourists can see the beauty of the Gulf of Maluk. Waves on the beach Maluk dubbed Super Suck back to shore because the waves are divided by a promontory which the locals named Cape Ahmad. Any breach of these waves roll up to a height of over two meters, therefore the waves on the beach Maluk into the list of the best waves for surfers. Around the coast many surfboards and canoes for rent at the rate of Rp 5,000 per hour for a canoe (if the price has not changed). Soft white sand and make tourists linger on this beach for sunbathing. There are also a turtle breeding which is right on the waterfront. Although it has been built an open shower, a volleyball area and a children's play area on the beach Maluk but the capacity for the facility is still minimal. In addition to play areas here have also been developed with the restaurant serving sea food diet, here are also already available with around Rp 150,000 to Rp 250,000 per day. To visit the beach Maluk was not too difficult because transport required by tourists are available at any time. Capital of NTB, Mataram approximately 6 hours of travel to get to the beach Maluk, about 2 hours away by ferry from Kayangan Port Lombok and the rest of the trip in the travel through the land. My Unexpected Journey Into SUMBAWA | Indonesia Travel Video
One of the best things about traveling with no itinerary is the ability to go where ever you want whenever you want.
While I was on the Gili Islands of Lombok I met some people that were going to Sumbawa.
They asked if I wanted to join.
I knew nothing about Sumbawa, but I said YES.
It was a great, spontaneous, surprise for me.
We started at a local village, where I can guarantee most of the children there had never seen a Bule(foreigner) before.
Then we wanted to go to a mountain top with amazing views, but a rain storm ruined that for us.
So we jumped ahead to our 2nd plan, which was camping over night on Kenawa Island.
The next day we went to Moyo Island.
This is an island that only has electricity from 6pm - 6am.
It's the perfect place to disconnect and enjoy nature.
The beaches were empty, as were the waterfalls and awesome swimming holes.
I was only on Sumbawa for a few days.
But it was a cool experience I wouldn't have had if I didn't meet other people while traveling.
*Most of this footage was spontaneously shot with an iPhone 5, sorry.*
The better looking footage was shot with a Nikon D600.

Sumbawa is an Indonesian island, located in the middle of the Lesser Sunda Islands chain, with Lombok to the west, Flores to the east, and Sumba further to the southeast. It is in the province of West Nusa Tenggara.
Sumbawa is 15,448 km² (three times the size of Lombok) with a population of around 1.5 million. It marks the boundary between the islands to the west, which were influenced by religion and culture spreading from India, and the region to the east that was not so influenced.
Four principalities in western Sumbawa were dependencies of the Majapahit Empire of eastern Java. Because of Sumbawa's natural resources it was regularly invaded by outside forces - Japanese, Dutch, Makassarese. The Dutch first arrived in 1605, but did not effectively rule Sumbawa until the early 20th century. The Balinese kingdom of Gelgel ruled western Sumbawa for a short period as well. It was also home to the Sultanate of Bima.
Historical evidence indicates that people on Sumbawa island were known in the East Indies for their honey, horses[1], sappan wood for producing red dye[2], and sandalwood used for incense and medications. The area was thought to be highly productive agriculturally.

Exploring Sumbawa Indonesia | Lombok to Sumbawa by ferry | Part 1
This is the story of my great journey from lombok to sumbawa Island, through public ferry from kayangan port in lombok to Pototano port (west Sumbawa).
Sumbawa is an Indonesian island, located in the middle of the Lesser Sunda Islands chain, with Lombok to the west, Flores to the east, and Sumba further to the southeast. Along with Lombok, it is part of the province of West Nusa Tenggara.
Elaborately contorted and sprawling into the sea, Sumbawa is all volcanic ridges, terraced rice fields, dry expanses and sheltered bays. Though well connected to Bali and Lombok, it's a very different sort of place – far less developed, mostly very dry, much poorer, extremely conservative and split between two distinct peoples. Those who speak Sumbawanese probably reached the west of the island from Lombok, while Bimanese speakers dominate the Tambora Peninsula and the east. Sumbawa is an overwhelmingly Islamic island.
How to Get There:
First make your way to Lombok. From Lombok, you can take a ferry to Poto Tano in West Sumbawa. Some resorts can arrange a private sea plane from Bali directly to Sumbawa or a fast boat from Lombok. On Sumbawa, there are public buses which run on the islands main highways. Car hire is possible through hotels in Sumbawa Besar of Bima. Motorcycles can also be rented. If you want a more authentic experience, try a traditional horse cart – called a benhur – to explore around Sumbawa Besar.
Places to visit in Sumbawa
Batu Tering
The hills east of Sumbawa Besar contain large stone sarcophagi, carved in low relief with human forms and crocodiles. Batu Tering, about 29km (18 miles) south of Sumbawa Besar, has megaliths said to be the royal tombs of ancient chiefs, a Neolithic culture that thrived about 2,000 years ago. About 2km (1¼ miles) beyond is Liang Petang (Dark Cave), with stalactites and stalagmites resembling humans and weaving looms.
Pulau Moyo
Two-thirds of this island is a game reserve to protect the island’s deer, banteng wild ox, 21 bat species and wild boars. The flora here ranges from savannah to dense jungle containing teak, tamarind and banyan trees. There are two waterfalls; the one near Labuan Aji village is an easier trek. South of the island the water is crystal clear and the reefs undisturbed, ideal for snorkellers and divers, with a white-sand beach opposite the island at Tanjung Manis.
Moyo is accessible in about 45 minutes by speedboat from Sumbawa Besar. Alternatively, fishing boats can be hired from Ai Bari. Simple accommodation is available at Tanjung Pasir on the mainland. The luxurious Amanwana resort, with modified villas using canvas tent toppings, is also on Moyo. It’s totally isolated, and bookings have to be made in advance.
Gunung Tambora
Serious climbers may want to ascend Gunung Tambora. In 1815, some 100 cu km (25 cu miles) of debris were ejected into the atmosphere with a force equivalent to that of several hydrogen bombs, creating “the year without summer” in 1816. Located on the northern peninsula of Sumbawa, the gaping, 2,821-metre (9,250ft) high caldera offers spectacular views on a clear day. The ascent begins at Calabai, a small logging town on the coast. It is a very difficult three-day climb and a guide is imperative.
Bima
At Bima, if there is a festival going on, you may catch pencak silat (martial arts) and other dance performances at the sultan’s palace. At the pasar (local market), you’ll see women wearing colourful Islamic headscarves that are unique to this region; unmarried women must cover everything except their eyes.
There are several traditional villages in the hills east of Bima, where the people fled to escape Islamisation in the 17th century. Donggo is the oldest. Women here still weave indigo cloth, from which they make their traditional clothing. The Donggo people adhere to a traditional animistic religion.
Kenawa Island / West Sumbawa / Indonesia , Heaven on Earth

INDONESIA 2019 DAY 10 - LOMBOK - PRINGGE BAYA - SUMBAWA BESAR - SUMBAWA
Rok 2019 bol plný cestovateľských zážitkov. V januári sme ho začali perfektným 23 dňovým tripom do Indonézie. Na ôsmy deň našej cesty po Indonézii sme si ráno zašli na miestny trh doplniť zásoby tropického ovocia, okúpali sme sa v horských kúpeľoch pod sopkou Rinjani a presunuli trajektom na omnoho väčší ostrov Sumbawa. Na tomto ostrove už belocha ťažko stretnete a ubytovanie nám vyriešili stany. Na záver dňa si našli na stanovanie pekné miesto v zátoke, okúpali sme sa urobili ohník a o5 nás čakal príjemný 12h spánok ☺

I live in Amsterdam, Holland, now, but in 2002 I still lived in Indonesia and this trip tells about my journey to Sumbawa island.
Rena (then my girlfriend, now my wife) and I left Jakarta with Lovina, close to Singaradja, northern Bali, as a goal. Half way we changed our mind and decided to go to my place of birth, Sumbawa Besar, on the island of Sumbawa. We stayed at Tirta Sari beach cottages, where I had stayed before. The place is owned by Pak Adi.
