December in SWITZERLAND – THIS you NEED to KNOW!
December is a very interesting time to visit Switzerland. However, there are some important things to bear in mind. Many attractions and roads will be closed due to the Winter season. Thus, traveling in December very much differs from Summer. December is the month of Christmas! There will be many Christmas markets all around Switzerland; in Zürich, Basel, Montreux, and elsewhere. Some Christmas markets are open on a daily base, certain only for few days or on weekends. Most of the villages, small towns and cities will have beautiful Christmas light decorations, which are very enjoyable to see. December is considered peak season, surely between Christmas and new Year. Many tourists will flock to Switzerland and hotels are going to be heavily booked! It’s very important to reserve hotels months in advance and restaurants days or weeks before you plan to dine there. During December, there is a chance for snow fall, certainly up in the Swiss Alps there will be quite some snow and even white Christmas is very possible up there. In general, the weather in December in Switzerland is not so cold down in the plateau. Ski resorts are already operating, before Christmas it’s going to be rather empty but between Christmas and New Year it will be full. Most of the pass roads in Switzerland are closed during December; car train tunnels will serve as a shortcut instead. Try also the seasonal food of Switzerland: Fondue, raclette, vermicelles, fondue chinoise and many other delicacies. The many Christmas markets will offer a great selection of Christmas dishes. Traveling in December in Switzerland is surely a great idea! Bare in mind that on Christmas itself, everything is going to be closed and will reopen on 27th of December.

The Stanserhorn is a mountain in Switzerland, located in the canton of Nidwalden near to the border with Obwalden, with the peak at 1,898 metres (6,227 ft) above sea level.
It is a popular tourist destination, which can be reached from the adjacent town of Stans by a funicular railway and cable car, or via walking routes from Stans or Dallenwil.

The funicular railway and cable car normally run daily from mid-April to mid-November.[9]
The journey to the top starts in Stans town at the original 1893 bottom station (450 metres (1,480 ft) elevation), close to Stans railway station on the Luzern-Engelberg line. The journey, on the original wooden funicular wagons, takes 9 minutes to the Kälti intermediate station (714 metres (2,343 ft) altitude). From here the CabriO cable car takes 61⁄4 minutes to the summit station (1,850 metres (6,070 ft) altitude). The cable car closely follows the route of the original second and third stage funiculars, and the remains of the track and the Bluematt station can still be seen.

The Stanserhorn, and stunning views of Switzerland
This film of Stanserhorn, shot early on a fine summer’s day before too many visitors had arrived, shows the beauty and variety of Swiss landscape. The Stanserhorn mountain in the Uri Alps in Central Switzerland is 1,898 metres high, and served by a state-of-the-art cable car, the CabriO, opened in 2012, which is the subject of much of this video.
The film starts with a ride on the 1893 funicular which has been restored and takes passengers up the first of the two original sections, a nine minute trip up to Kälti station where they transfer to the modern cable car. The CabriO is unique in having two decks – one outside on the roof of the other, so passengers who are brave enough can travel up the mountain with the wind in their hair and fresh air in their lungs! (It also allows photographers like me to film an unencumbered view of the surroundings.)
The other part of the film shows the view from the revolving restaurant’s terrace near Stanserhorn’s summit. The peaks of mounts Pilatus, Rigi and Titlis are seen opposite; down the valley are Lakes Zug and Lucerne, with their towns of the same names; and the resorts of Bürgenstock and Stans itself.

We decided to search for some sunshine above the fog and found it after a 11.5 km hike with 1300 m elevation gain. Beautiful hike through the autumn forest with magnificent views over the fog covered Vierwaldstättersee. Enjoy!

Stanserhorn Mountain Switzerland, Stans to Stanserhorn, Lucerne - Part 1
The Stanserhorn is a mountain in Switzerland with this amazing balcony wiew of the Swiss alps it makes it more breathtaking, This Video takes you through the beautiful Stans Village to Stanserhorn Mountain Top via a Furnicular Train Ride and worlds first open double decker cable car CabriO to experience some breathaking views of this beautiful country, Stanserhorn is an ideal spot to appreciate and experience the pristine beauty of Switzerland. Relax at the sunny rooftop to gaze distant mountains, as far as Mount Titlis and Alsace, or gleam at ten turquoise-blue lakes, and on a clear day, even peak at the neighbouring country’s nature – the Black Forest in Germany.
Stanserhorn is the go-to mountain for hikers. If you are a beginner or an occasional hiker, sweat over a 30-minute’s walk around the mountain, and if you are a regular hiker, walk your way right from Stans up to the peak of Stanserhorn – a near 4 hours hike. Mesmerising views of the valley of Engelberg or the cantons of Obwalden are enjoyed during the hike.
How to reach Stanserhorn?
Mount Stanserhorn is accessible from Stans. You can reach Stans from either Lucerne, which is 20 minutes away, or even from Interlaken or Zurich, which are relatively far but can wind up as a one-day activity. Tourists usually prefer to travel conveniently by train, as most of them hold a Swiss Travel Pass.
Once in Stans, a 5-minutes walk will take you the valley station that takes you to Kalti in a funicular. Kalti is the mid-station in the journey to Stanserhorn, located at 710 meters above sea level.
From Kalti, hop aboard CabriO – the open rooftop cable car – which is a six and half minute journey that takes you to 1900 meters above sea level, the world’s first open double-decker cable car. A one-of-its-kind cable car is a combination of a mighty, luxurious bus with a convertible-car-like open roof, allowing you to bask 360-degree panoramic views. The six and a half minute journey of CabriO equals an indulgent ride to paradise, rejoicing the picturesque, green landscapes of Switzerland.
