China is undoubtedly one of the most fascinating countries in the world and for any tourist a real gem. Tourism has grown a lot here and continues to grow year after year. In fact, it has replaced Spain as the third most visited tourist destination (the list is headed by France and in second place is the United States). And the truth is that it has what it takes because it is a country with many wonders, natural landscapes and true historical-cultural treasures.
One of them is undoubtedly the Great Wall . It is impossible for you to visit China and not take a tour of one of the sections closest to the capital. Even if you dare, you can go further and discover sections that are not very touristy. The feeling of being there, standing, and with the landscape around you, is overwhelming. There are four sections of the Great Wall that are the most popular and visited by tourists, so let's see today a brief guide to each of them
A short trip to Shanhaiguan, China
We went for a short afternoon trip to Shanhaiguan on the outskirts of Qinhuangao.
There wasn't a lot of time, so we looked around a small part of the old (looking) town area. It is a much larger district than shown in this short video. Many of the buildings are shops, as you might expect in a tourist spot, and there are some museums as well.
If you walk down the side streets you can walk through residential areas, which in some ways are just as interesting as the touristy areas.
Part of the Great Wall passes through here as it winds its way down from the mountains towards its end at the Bohai sea (the Old Dragon's Head).

10. Shanghai's Promenade: The Bund.
Shanghai's Zhongshan Lu riverside promenade, also known as the Bund, is a marvel of smart city planning and preservation. This spacious pedestrian zone along the Huangpu Jiang River makes you forget you're in China's largest city.
9. The Potala Palace, Tibet.
Lhasa's Potala Palace is another famous Chinese landmark. It was the Dalai Lama's fortress and dwelling for centuries and holds many of the religion's most valuable relics. The 17th century Red Palace houses the complex's most prominent shrines. The Enthronement Hall has murals of Dalai Lamas and Tibetan kings on its walls.
8. The Classical Gardens of Suzhou, Jiangsu.
The Classical Gardens of Suzhou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, should top of your China trip agenda. These exquisite gardens in Suzhou, Jiangsu province, were among 270 or more planted in the 11th century, when the city was growing rapidly. The most famous restored garden is the charming Garden of Lingering, a seven-acre site built in 1800 on the site of a Ming Dynasty park.
7. The Yangtze River and the Three Gorges.
The Yangtze River, known in China as Chang Jiang (Long River), is the third longest river in the world after the Amazon and the Nile and the longest in China. For over 2000 years, China's main transportation artery, the Yangtze, has flowed from Tibet to Shanghai through eight provinces.
6. Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, Sichuan.
Pandas are essential to any Chinese trip. The Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding in Chengdu, Sichuan, is the ideal spot to witness these remarkable animals in their natural habitat. You can watch 80 pandas forage and play in this park-like facility.
5. Cruising the Li River, Guilin.
Guilin, in northeast Guangxi, is noted for its Li River and karst mountains. For centuries, poets, artists, and fairy tales have been inspired by its unique environment. Now, travelers from over the world come to see it.
4. The Summer Palace, Beijing.
The Imperial Summer Palace (Yíhé Yuán), one of China's most visited sights, is a 15-kilometer drive from Beijing. The palace was established in 1153, but its enormous lake was added in the 14th century to improve the Imperial Gardens.
3. The Terracotta Army, Xi'an.
Farmers found the Terracotta Army in the 1970s while excavating wells outside Xi'an. The three massive underground pits, erected to guard the First Emperor's tomb, contained more than 8000 life size warriors, 520 horses, and 100 chariots, as well as several non-military characters from around 280 BC.
2. The Forbidden City & the Imperial Palace, Beijing.
Beijing's Forbidden City (Zijìnchéng), commonly known as the Imperial Palace, is China's largest and most important building. The complex was built between 1406 and 1420 during the Yuan Dynasty. This sprawling compound housed 24 Ming and Qing emperors, who barred admission to all but the imperial family and their courtesans.

One day in July 2015, me and my mexican friend Pablo were hanging around at a famous part of the Great Wall of China. We visited Shanhaiguan in the chinese province Hebei. This is the place were the Great Wall starts from the sea and goes on through the mountains Jiao Shan behind. This is what you will see as a short summary in this video.

Mountain Hiking Holidays 2019 Great Wall of China hiking trip. This is the video from Day #2. The hike on this section of the wall—from Jiaoshan entrance to Hejialou village—was probably the most challenging of the whole trip. From the vicinity of fortified Shanhaiguan (First Pass Under Heaven) the wall rises quickly into the mountains traversing steep, wild and rugged terrain before dropping to Hejialou village.
JUYONGGUAN ( JUYONG PASS) GREAT WALL OF CHINA DURING WINTER
Juyong Pass located about 60km from Beijing, belief to be the closest portion of Great Wall to Beijing. Juyongguan pass is one of the three famous passes along the Great Wall of China, together with Jiayuguan and Shanhaiguan. At Juyong Pass, the East side stairs is more gentler and more suitable for those who are weak in sports compare to West side stairs that are quite steep. Those who are not too fit can pick the eastern route. The best time to visit this section are April, May (Spring), September and October (Autumn). Better to bring some snacks and some bottles water is also necessary.
