China, the gateway to East Asia, is a fascinating country. It is an ancient civilization that gave the world Peking Man, gunpowder and noodles. Visitors making their first trip to China usually stick to the larger cities. More experienced visitors to the Middle Kingdom will strike out in other directions, where traveling may be a bit more frustrating because of the language barrier, but most definitely doable for independent travelers. Here’s a look at the best places to visit in China:
Day Trip to Shoaxing (Zhejiang, China)
Shoaxing is a REALLY old city, like 2,500 years old! Holy shit! It quickly became one of my favorite cities to visit since I only lived 40 minutes away by bus and 10 by high speed train. When I was broke, I took the 7A bus from Shangyu to Shoaxing at the old train station bus stop. Check this out, it only cost 5rmb (77¢) one way! However, whenever I felt like splurging like a BOSS I took the high speed train which cost 12rmb ($1.84) one way lol
On this trip, my roommate and I decided to begin our trip by exploring a common neighborhood, but little did we know that it was going to be less than common as we were able to experience the rich traditional lifestyle all around us! From old men playing cards outside their houses to dilapidated corner shops, this neighborhood was simple beautiful as it captured the true essence of China (or at least what we foreigners picture it to be). Located near China's most famous stone bridge, the 13th century Bazi Bridge, I had a great time exploring this hidden gem of a neighborhood!
After leaving this part of town, my housemate and I visited the Baozhu Bridge only to find one of the MOST BEAUTIFUL sceneries we had ever seen! First of all, we saw the unique Wu-Peng boats which can only be seen in Shoaxing. These boats are one of a kind because the boatmen use their feet to row the boat! Aside from being awestruck by these boats, we were also captivated by the beauty of the Yanyu Teahouse and the surrounding architecture! Don't miss out on visiting this bridge as it's environment serves as the perfect backdrop for a picture, that's 100% guaranteed!
As I usually recommend, explore Shaoxing's main tourists sites, but don't be afraid to just get out there and explore a random neighborhood! I assure you there will be something beautiful worthy of seeing!

As of the 2020 Chinese census, it had a total population of 11,936,010 inhabitants. Since 2014, its rapid population growth has led to a steady increase in local housing prices. According to the 2020 Hurun Global Rich List, Hangzhou ranks 11th in the world and 6th in China (after Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Guangzhou) in the number of resident billionaires.
Hangzhou is a major city for scientific research in China, ranking 23rd globally by the Nature Index as of 2021. It hosts several notable universities, including Zhejiang University of Technology, Hangzhou Normal University, Hangzhou Dianzi University, Zhejiang A&F University, Zhejiang Sci-Tech University and China Jiliang University. Notably, Zhejiang University is one of the world's top 100th comprehensive public research universities.
In September 2015, Hangzhou was awarded the 2022 Asian Games. It will be the third Chinese city to host the Asian Games, after Beijing 1990 and Guangzhou 2010. Hangzhou also hosted the 11th G20 summit in 2016.

Jiashao Bridge is a river crossing passage connecting Haining City, Jiaxing City and Shangyu District, Shaoxing City in Zhejiang Province, China. It is located in Hangzhou Bay, Zhejiang Province, China.
The construction of Jiashao Bridge started on December 14, 2008, the whole bridge was completed on February 3, 2013, and it was opened to traffic at 0:00 on July 19, 2013.
Jiashao Bridge starts from Guzhu hub in the south, crosses Hangzhou Bay and ends at Nanhu hub in the north, with a total length of 10.137 kilometers; the bridge deck is a two-way eight-lane expressway with a design speed of 100 kilometers per hour; the project investment is 6.28 billion yuan.

The main channel bridge of Jiashao Bridge adopts the 6-tower single-column cable-stayed bridge scheme with the highest technical content, which makes the main bridge 2,680 meters long, with 5 main navigation holes, and ranks first in the world in the number of cable towers and the length of the main bridge. The bridge adopts the standard of two-way eight-lane expressway, and the total width of the main bridge is 55.6 meters (including the busso area). A large number of large-diameter bored piles are used for the approach bridges in the water area, and the caps on the piers are cancelled.
The main channel bridge of Jiashao Bridge adopts a single-column, four-cable plane and six-tower cable-stayed steel box girder bridge structure. An expansion joint is set in the middle of the main bridge span, and the main beam at the expansion joint adopts a rigid hinge structure; the north auxiliary channel bridge adopts a variable-section continuous rigid frame. The number of main structural projects of Jiashao Bridge is: 150 bored piles with a diameter of 3.8 meters, 228 bored piles with a diameter of 2.5 meters, 322 bored piles with a diameter of 2.0 meters, 92 approach bridge caps in the land area, and 10 main channel bridge caps. There are 18 bearing platforms for the north auxiliary channel bridge, 150 single-column piers for the approach bridge in the water area, 88 double-column piers for the approach bridge in the land area, 2878 sections of prefabricated prestressed concrete box girders for the 70-meter section of the approach bridge in the water area on the north bank, There are 300 cast-in-place box girders of 70 meters for the approach bridge in the water area, 496 cast-in-situ box girders for the north auxiliary channel bridge and cross embankment, 40 cast-in-place box girders for the support in the land area, 6 main towers, 60 steel anchor boxes for the main tower, and 60 main tower steel anchor boxes.
