Murmansk is the largest beyond the Arctic Circle city in the World. It is located in the north-west of Russia. The Sea Port on the coast of Kola Bay which is a part of Barents sea, which is a part of Arctic Ocean.

Continuing my look at the Soviet Union in the 1970's, I now turn travel to the far northwest part of Russia and show the great city of Murmansk . The city is located on Kola Bay, an inlet of the Barents Sea on the northern shore of the Kola Peninsula, close to the Russia's borders with Norway and Finland.

In today's episode, we are in Montenegro to explore the huge submarine tunnels and underground bunkers located in a restricted military area. As the Cold War dragged on, the Yugoslavian national army started construction of several submarine tunnels spanning the entire Adriatic coast, designed to protect its vast navy fleet from a surprise air attack. They were built in absolute secrecy with huge underground generators, fuel tanks and torpedo stockpiles to ensure submarine operation during wartime.

The world's northernmost McDonald's is found in Murmansk, Russia! This fun fact is commemorated on two plaques - one outside the building and one inside the restaurant as well. Let's go inside and see what it's like.
This McDonald's opened on June 28, 2013, and can be found in the Volna (Wave) shopping center just off the Five Corners Square in the city center, and just down the road from the city's main train station.
This is not necessarily a review video - we just wanted to show you what it's like inside the McDonald's that sits farther north than any of its other restaurants.

The BAM: Russia's Unknown Trans-Siberian Train????????
???????? We have all heard of the Trans-Siberian, Russia's mega train journey that crosses Siberia as it skirts the Chinese border. But few have heard of the even more impressive B.A.M ( Baikal Amur Mainline ) which passes through virgin forest in the middle of Siberia. Built in the 1970s by young communists, the BAM is the greatest construction project of the 20th Century. And yet it is unknown in the West.

Russian battlecruiser Pyotr Velikiy

(Russian: Пётр Великий) is the fourth Kirov-class battlecruiser of the Russian Navy. Initially named Yuri Andropov (Russian: Юрий Андропов) for Yuri Andropov, the former General Secretary of the Communist Party, the ship's name was changed after the fall of the Soviet Union. The Russian designation for the type is heavy missile cruiser, but Western defense commentators re-invented the term battlecruiser to describe these; the largest surface combatant warships in the world. Pyotr Velikiy is the flagship of the Northern Fleet.
Construction of the ship was heavily impacted by the economic problems before and after the fall of the Soviet Union and it was not commissioned until 1998, twelve years after work had started. By then it had been renamed Pyotr Velikiy, Russian for Peter the Great. Pyotr Velikiy has been known to carry two pennant numbers during its service; 183 and currently 099.
After completing its acceptance trials in November 1996, the vessel was transferred to the Northern Fleet at Severomorsk and became the flagship of the Northern Fleet.
In August 2000 Pyotr Velikiy was in the Barents Sea involved in the largest naval training exercise since the fall of the Soviet Union. The ship was to be the designated target of the Oscar-II class submarine K-141 Kursk, and was conducting evasive maneuvers when communication with Kursk was lost, the submarine apparently having suffered a catastrophic torpedo detonation with all hands lost. Pyotr Velikiy guarded the area where the submarine sank during the subsequent salvage operation in 2001.
In March 2004, Russian Navy chief Admiral Vladimir Kuroyedov declared Pyotr Velikiy unfit for service due to problems with the ship's engineering maintenance.[1] On 19 April 2004, the cruiser was docked in the floating drydock PD-50 for painting of the underside of the hull, repairs and examination of the steering system. The repairs were completed later that year, and it was carrying out missions again by August.

Experimentamos temperaturas de hasta -25°C y visitamos uno de los lugares más emblemáticos del lugar, el monumento de Alyosha.
