ALGARVE, PORTUGAL | 10 Incredible Places To Visit In The Algarve

The Algarve is the southernmost region of continental Portugal. Thanks to its year-round sunny weather and beautiful rugged coastline, it’s one of the most popular holiday destinations in all of Europe. In this video we highlight 10 diverse places to visit in the Algarve:

10. Sagres
Sitting at the westernmost tip of the Algarve, Sagres is the wildest and most untamed destination. Windswept, barren landscapes, towering cliffs, and rough waters are what set this place apart.

9. Portimão
Visit the Portimão museum if you want to learn more about its fishing and canning tradition, or go to the medieval Fort of Santa Catarina de Ribamar for panoramic views. But the biggest draw is undoubtedly Portimão’s nearby Praia da Rocha.

8. Faro & Ria Formosa
From cobblestone streets and cozy squares to a wide range of lagoons and wetlands, Faro boasts a blend of city and nature activities. We really enjoyed a boat tour in the Ria Formosa Natural Park, which is home to canals, marshland and small islands.

☑️ Book a boat tour:

7. Aljezur & West Coast Beaches
With wide-open beaches and sheer sea cliffs, the West Coast of the Algarve is a true hidden gem. It’s also another prime destination for surfing. We recommend Arrifana Beach if you’re a beginner or intermediate surfer.

6. Fishermen’s Village Ferragudo
With its white houses reaching down to the river, walking around this authentic fishing town is an experience in itself. But Praia Grande is also a great place to relax and enjoy watersports.

5. Lagos & Ponta da Piedade
Lagos has a wide range of cafés and restaurants to choose from, but also some historical sights, such as castle walls, churches, and a fort. Combine this with its spectacular coastline, filled with steep cliffs, caves, and grottoes, and you’ve got one of the most scenic destinations in the Algarve.

???? Watch Lagos video:

4. Serra de Monchique
Apart from beautiful beaches, the Algarve is also home to a rolling mountain range. The town of Monchique lies in pristine nature, surrounded by lush green forests. It’s an idyllic and authentic mountain town with sweeping vistas and a network of nature trails.

☑️ Book a tour to Monchique and Silves with Algarve Jipe Safari:

3. Silves
This historic town cascades down the hill, flowing out from beneath the beautiful Silves Castle (Castelo de Silves). Enjoy your time learning about the town’s history inside the castle walls as well as on the cobbled streets surrounding it.

2. The 7 Hanging Valleys
This 12km out-and-back hike takes between 4 to 6 hours to complete if you do the full route, and includes views of the Atlantic ocean as well as limestone rock formations. There is some elevation gain and loss as you climb up and down each of the valleys, but overall the hike is easy to moderate.

1. Benagil Cave
The Benagil Cave is a world-class natural attraction in the Algarve. Although it’s only a short distance from Benagil Beach, you still need a kayak, stand up paddle board, or guided boat tour to reach the caves safely.

PORTO, PORTUGAL | 10 Incredible Things To Do In & Around Porto

Porto is located in northwest Portugal along the Douro River and a must-visit travel destination. From its stunning old town to its authentic cuisine and romantic viewpoints, Porto has so much to offer. These are the best things to do in and around Porto:

10. Visit at least one of the many churches
The most beautiful ones include: Igreja dos Clérigos, São Francisco Church, Igreja do Carmo, and the Porto Cathedral (Sé do Porto)

9. Admire the architecture at the Livraria Lello
The building dates back to 1906 and is often nicknamed the “most beautiful bookshop in the world” due to its blend of different architectural designs.

☑️ Book your skip the line ticket in advance:

8. Try the local food
Worth trying: tripas, bacalhau à brás, sardinhas, and francesinha

7. Walk the riverfront (Cais da Ribeira)
This is one of the liveliest parts of Porto, and a great place to walk, dine, and sightsee.

6. Go on a cruise of the 6 bridges
From the water, you can admire the beautiful landscapes and red-roofed buildings of Porto as well as Vila Nova de Gaia. All while learning about the historic bridges that connect both cities. Boat tours leave from the riverfront in Porto (Ribeira Quay) and last about 50 minutes.

☑️ Book your 6 bridges cruise:

5. Take in a view of the city
Best viewpoints: Miradouro da Vitória, the street next to the Porto cathedral, Passeio das Virtudes, Miradouro da Ribeira (for sunset), and from the waterfront of Vila Nova de Gaia.

4. Day trip to Peneda-Gerês National Park
Located near the Spanish border, the Peneda-Gerês national park is a 2 hour drive from Porto. It’s the oldest protected area and the only national park in Portugal, covering about 695 square kilometers.

☑️ Book a 4x4 day tour:

3. Day trip to the Douro wine valley
The Douro wine valley is where the famous port wine is produced and it’s known as the first demarcated wine region in the world. But besides its wines, this valley is also worth visiting for its incredible landscapes, nature, and history. We spent two days in Peso da Régua and enjoyed wine tasting, hiking, and learning all about the region.

☑️ Day cruise to the Douro wine valley:

2. Visit the wine cellars at Vila Nova de Gaia
While less idyllic, Vila Nova de Gaia is also known for its port wine. In fact, all the port wine produced in the upper Douro Valley would historically be transported here in barrels on traditional boats (rabelo boats). This is why the riverbanks of Porto today are filled with wine cellars and tasting rooms. Most wine cellars offer wine tastings and guided tours.

1. Free walking tour of the city
During a 2.5 hours guided tour, you’ll see the main highlights of the city, like São Bento train station, Café Majestic, Aliados avenue, and much more. But you’ll also get some recommendations to eat, go out, and have fun. This tour leaves a few times per day from the Liberty Square.

12 Best Places to Visit in Portugal | Travel Guide

Tourism in Portugal has been cruising on a wave of success and despite its popularity it continues to be one of the best value destinations. It has it all—a rich history, innovative art, stunning views and super friendly, laid-back locals. Visiting has also become easier since TAP Portugal, the country’s main airline, has increased their stopover program to five days.

Portugal is a gorgeous country to explore and much more than cork products, gorgeous sea and yummy port that it has become famous for. It’s one country that just seems to draw us back time and time again with shed loads of historic cities, gorgeous National Parks and enough bacalhau to satisfy even the hungriest of tummies.

One of the things we love most about Portugal is how unique each of the places feels. You can literally travel 30 minutes up the road and feel like you’re in a totally different country; it really is very special.

Portugal is a fascinating and varied country, with vibrant cities, glorious beaches and wonderful climate. Geographically, Portugal may only be small but there is much diversity between it’s landscapes, cultures and peoples

This is a country dominated by the sea both historically and culturally. There are the magnificent seafaring cities of Lisbon and Porto, the lively beach resorts of the Algarve and the traditional fishing towns of the Atlantic coastline.

The interior of Portugal is as equally varied, from the abundant wine-growing region of the Douro through to the arid hills of the Alentejo. Here ancient fortified towns are set within stunning natural scenery, and there are whole regions virtually undiscovered by modern tourism.

5 Best Places to Visit in Portugal

5 Best Places to Visit in Portugal

For such a small country, Portugal packs a punch. From cosmopolitan cities and out-of-the-way towns and villages, to lively beach resorts and spectacular national parks, this diminutive nation offers an incredibly diverse range of visitor attractions. Occupying a wedge of Iberia and sharing a border with Spain and a fantastic coastline with the Atlantic Ocean, Portugal's location in this sun-kissed corner of Western Europe lends it a singular appeal. Its southern reaches remain a compelling vacation destination, renowned for gloriously sandy beaches and world-class golf courses. The country's interior, meanwhile, offers a wealth of contrast: rolling plains; broad rivers; deep, verdant valleys; and remote mountain ranges.

LAGOS, PORTUGAL | 6 BEST Things To Do In Lagos

Lagos is a charming port town that boasts dramatic natural scenery, situated in southern Portugal's Algarve region. We highlight the 6 best things to do in and around Lagos in this video:

6. Hit The Beach
Due to its year-round pleasant weather, one of the best things to do in Lagos is to hit the beach. Characterized by flanking rocky cliffs, hidden coves, and white sand, Lagos is home to many beaches that are perfect to relax and swim. Our favorite beaches for swimming include the sandy Duna Beach, the beautiful Dona Ana, Estudantes, Batata, and Camilo beach.

5. Explore Downtown Lagos
The downtown of Lagos is home to whitewashed houses and narrow cobbled streets, filled with cozy restaurants and cafés. It’s just fun to wander around, have a bite or drink, and relax. But if you want to learn a bit more about Lagos’ past, you can also visit the forte da ponte da bandeira, the iconic churches (Santo Antonio/Santa Maria Church), or one of the museums (Museu de Lagos dr. josé formosinho). It’s also a pleasure to roam around the traditional houses and check out the pretty harbour.

4. Walk The Cliffs
Starting at Pinhao beach, you can walk 3km of coastal cliffs all the way to the famous Ponta da Piedade. Winding above eccentric limestone formations and through diverse flora and fauna, this trail is truly special. Adventure lovers will find joy in getting lost and then navigating their way back to the path throughout the route. Even though the trail is not well-marked, you can just keep walking south the whole time along the cliffs and you’ll make it to Ponta da Piedade.

3. Ponta da piedade
Sitting 3.5 kilometers from the city center of Lagos, Ponta da Piedade is one of the most amazing natural sites to see in the area. Jagged limestone cliffs and hidden caves take center stage while pounding waves make beautiful music in the background. There is a boardwalk as well as small cliff trails that line the edges, winding around the magnificent lighthouse. We recommend arriving at the point an hour or so before sunset. In this way, you can get a little exercise in before rewarding yourself with one of the most beautiful sunset spots in all of Portugal!

2. Grutas boat tour or kayak tour
There are hundreds of caves and strange rock formations that go along the coast from Batata Beach to Ponta da piedade. While it’s fun to walk along the top of the cliffs, it’s even more impressive to see them from the ocean level. You have a few options for guided tours of these special cliffs. You can either go on a guided kayak or boat tour that leaves from downtown Lagos. While the kayak is more adventurous, it can also be a little rough because of weather conditions!

☑️ Book kayak tour:

☑️ Book boat tour:

1. Day trip to Benagil cave
Located about 35 kilometers from Lagos, The Benagil Cave is an amazing natural attraction in the Algarve. You can get to the cave by rental car or by boat tour directly from Lagos. Keep in mind that if you choose the boat tour, you won’t be able to see the inside of the cave since the boat is too big. That’s why we recommend renting a car or scooter to get to the cave and then renting a kayak at the beach itself.

☑️ Book a guided kayaking tour:

LISBON

00:25 - Pasteis de Belem
We received so many recommendations from locals themselves to visit this place. It is actually one of the oldest Portuguese egg tart shops around!

00:33 - Belem Tower
Officially called the Tower of Saint Vincent, Belem Tower is a 16th-century fortification that served as a point of embarkation and disembarkation for Portuguese explorers and as a ceremonial gateway to Lisbon.

00:36 - Jeronimos Monastery
These two sights are truly sights to behold. Learn more about the history of Lisbon here!

00:41 - Praco do Comercio
Kinda like the city hall area of Lisbon, locals and tourists alike gather here to window shop, watch buskers do their thangggg and simply just to chill.

00:47 - Santa Justa Lift
This lift was built in the past to ease the number of stairs in the past, where you get to see a beautiful panoramic view of the city from the top!

00:51 - Rua Nova do Carvalho
Known as the pink street of Lisbon, it used to be the area that housed the red light district of Lisbon in the past but has since been converted to a home for cosy cafes and modern pubs and bars.

00:57 - The Sanctuary of Christ the King
A definite must-visit when you're in Portugal! ALGARVE REGION

01:07 - Praia da Rocha
Amazing sunset views can be enjoyed from this beautiful beach. It does get pretty crowded, but there's always a space for everyone and anyone.

01:13 - Wildwatch Tour — Benagil Cave
This boat tour includes a short kayaking session, one of the highlights is definitely kayaking into the Benagil Cave. It is known to be one of the most beautiful sea caves in the world!

01:30 - Pinhao Beach
Soak up some sun here, and navigate through cliff formations to get to different areas of the beach! Be careful of the tide level though.

CASCAIS & SINTRA

01:36 - Shoreline path of Cascais, Guincho Beach
The views you get of the shoreline are simply breathtaking.

01:44 - Pena Palace
Perched atop one of the highest points in the quaint city of Sintra, this palace was built and painted so colourfully so that it could grab everyone's attention no matter where you stood in Sintra.

01:50 - Moorish Castle
Built during the medieval times, the Moorish Castle served as a watchtower in the past.

01:55 - Quinta de Regalaria
It took us pretty long to find this place because it was nestled deep in the parks. But it was well worth it. There's just a mystical feel to it.

02:02 - Cabo da Roca
The westernmost point of Europe, here we have a lookout point with a beautiful lighthouse overlooking the ocean.

02:09 - Marisco na Praca
You can pick and choose from a seafood bar here, but be sure to try the seafood rice! It was our favourite.

PORTO

02:17 - Sao Bento Railway Station

Best Places To Visit In Sintra

A picturesque little town located in the Lisbon region of Portugal, Sintra offers a spectacular setting close to the capital of Portugal. Sintra's romantic allure and a breathtaking array of parks and palaces prompted UNESCO to recognize the region as a significant influence on the growth of landscape architecture in Europe, bestowing World Heritage status on the region in 1995. Its forested landscape is studded with pastel-colored villas and palaces, making it a long-time royal retreat. Dramatic twin chimneys and intricate tilework differentiate the Moorish and Manueline-style Sintra National Palace. Pena National Palace, built on a hilltop in the nineteenth century, is renowned for its whimsical architecture and panoramic views.

So, you're wondering what to do in Porto, Portugal? Here are our top ten suggestions for what to see and what to eat in Porto.

00:00 About Porto
Porto, also known as Oporto in some languages, is a city of many faces. From dark, foggy and gloomy, perfectly reflecting its nickname 'Invicta' - invincible, never conquered, to cheerful, colourful and vibrant through it's iconic tiles, lively vintage tramcars and most importantly, enticing gourmet experiences.
While the famous Port wine bears Porto's name, it is actually produced in the beautiful Douro Valley about 90 km away and stored and aged in cellars on the other side of the Douro river in Vila Nova de Gaia.
Together with its neighbour, Gaia, Porto gave name to modern day Portugal, evolving from Latin name Portus Cale to Portucale and finally to Portugale.
It will captivate all of your senses, so enjoy it slowly and indulgently.

00:55 Torre dos Clérigos (Clérigos Tower)
01:37 Francesinha
02:37 Cais da Ribeira Riverside
03:26 Ponte de Dom Luís I (Dom Luís I Bridge)
04:19 Porto Gaia Riverfront
05:27 Port Wine Tasting
06:15 Bonus Tip - Food
06:52 Livraria Lello Bookstore
07:34 Pastel de Nata
08:32 Estação ferroviária de São Bento (São Bento railway station)
09:03 Igreja do Carmo

09:50 Final thoughts
Beautiful, charming, and colourfully authentic - Porto will not leave you indifferent. It offers so much, we feel we have to give some honourable mentions as well.
Famous historic market, Mercado do Bolhão, is currently undergoing restoration works and can be temporarily found in a shopping centre close-by. Treating yourself to a coffee in the Art Nouveau marvel, Majestic Café, is a distinctive experience. Taking a ride with historic tramcars will take you past the City Hall, dazzling Church of Saint Ildefonso and Chapel of Souls, while The Guindais Funicular will carry you between both levels of Luis I bridge. And let's not forget Porto is actually a port town, so a trip to a beach is surely inevitable.
But don't take our word for it, come and see for yourself!
