Selebi Phikwe, Botswana ???????? | A walkaround Town Centre

What is Selebi-Phikwe like?
Selebi-Phikwe is a small mining town in Central East of Botswana. The town has seen devastating economic repercussions when the Mine closed in 2006 making ~5000 people unemployed.
There is hope of life as a new company as bought some assets of the Mine and hope to resume production in the near future.

I was born and raised in this town. My family still lives here so the town and its people are dear to me.

MOWANA SAFARI LODGE KASANE CHOBE NATIONAL PARK BOTSWANA

МОВАНА САФАРИ ЛОДЖ КАСАНЕ ЧОБЕ БОТСВАНА

Mowana Lodge:

Mowana Safari Lodge lies on the banks of the Chobe river, where four African countries (Botswana, Zambia, Namibia and Zimbabwe) meet. At this point the Chobe and Zambezi rivers converge – the Zambezi river being the home of the NyamiNyami (or river god). So if you want to learn more about African myths and legends, the Chobe area around the Mowana Safari Lodge is the place to visit!

The Chobe Game Reserve is famous for its enormous elephant population – it is said that 45 000 of these interesting creatures roam the plains of Chobe. They share the area of almost 10 000 square kilometres with lion, leopard, giraffe, cheetah, buffalo, approximately 450 bird species, as well as puku and Chobe bushbuck, which are indigenous to Chobe National Park.

The luxurious Cresta Mowana Safari Resort & Spa near the Chobe Game Reserve is a four-star establishment. Guests are accommodated in 112 luxury rooms and 4 suites (all en suite and air-conditioned).

All rooms and suites face the Chobe river and are equipped with tea/coffee-making facilities, ceiling fans, mini bars, hairdryers as well as mosquito nets and electric insect repellents. Rooms and suites at the Cresta Mowana Safari Resort & Spa also have satellite television and direct dial phone.

The Cresta Mowana Safari Resort & Spa near the Chobe Game Reserve also offers safety deposit boxes, same day laundry and valet service, limited room service as well as airport transfer shuttle.

Jacuzzi and infinity pools. River views and roaming elephants. A hair dressing salon in a tree house and a golf course. Traditional canoe trips and nature walks. Here at Cresta Mowana Safari Resort & Spa, they all go hand in hand. Contemporary luxury meets old traditions and myths. The lobby is raised around an almost thousand-year-old baobab tree (which is beautifully lit up at night) and the resort is named after it. Did you know there are countless legends about these giant trees? The helpful and knowledgeable staff at this lodge are more than happy to share a few with you, all you need to do is ask - preferably on a warm night under a star-studded sky. Mowana Safari Lodge lies on the banks of the Chobe River, where four African countries - Botswana, Zambia, Namibia and Zimbabwe - meet. The Chobe Game Reserve is famous for its enormous elephant population: almost 45,000 of these pachydermal giants roam the plains of Chobe. And they are not alone, as they share the area with lion, leopard, giraffe, cheetah, buffalo, and approximately 450 bird species, as well as puku and Chobe bushbuck, which are indigenous to Chobe National Park.

How Safe Is Botswana for Travel?

Full safety review:

Botswana is a country located in South Africa, possibly the safest country in entire Africa, rich in natural goods and wildlife and bordering with Namibia, South Africa, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

Tourism is well developed in Botswana, as a contrast to its neighboring countries, and is somewhat distanced from the racism spreading across Africa.

Overall, Botswana is a safe country - probably the safest one in Africa, and a good place to start your exploration of this content if you've never been there before. Attacks towards tourists are rare and people are welcoming and warm.

Tracks4Africa - Self Drive Guide Book - Botswana

Tracks4Africa Self Drive Guide Book - Botswana

So, what is so special about the Tracks4Africa guide books?
These are not guides written by armchair travellers or the personal experience of one person, but the combined experiences of a whole community of travellers. The T4A community travel far and wide – not by luxury bus or safari vehicle but on their own wheels. Sometimes they travel in groups and sometimes as lone rangers, but they always travel by motorbike, sedan or 4WD, therefore this guide is specifically aimed at self-drive travellers.

Our 2nd edition features an atlas section of Botswana, and suggested routes for first time visitors.

If you are a self-drive tourist, there are five things that you need to know when you are on the road:
1. Where to sleep.
2. Where to get fuel.
3. What to see and do.
4. Where to buy supplies.
5. Where to go in case of an emergency.

Botswana: Where to go and what to see

Virtually synonymous with the Kalahari Desert, much of Botswana is flat and dry, covered in thorny acacia trees and home to enormous salt pans and rolling grasslands. Rainfall is highest in northern Botswana where vast open woodlands dominate the environment and several globally important wetland habitats - the Okavango Delta, the Linyanti Swamps and the Chobe River - support huge numbers of animals.
Botswana is a haven for wildlife and several of its protected areas - the Chobe National Park, the Okavango Delta and Moremi Game Reserve in particular - rank among Africa's best game-viewing destinations. Botswana's Kalahari parks are some of the wildest and least developed in the region but offer excellent opportunities for game viewing, especially in early summer when several local zebra migrations occur.

Botswana's wildlife highlights include Africa's greatest concentrations of elephant, fantastic bird watching, abundant predators and the continent's largest population of African wild dog. Botswana's lions are particularly famous for their size and their ability to prey on large animals such as hippo, buffalo and even young elephants.

The evergreen jewel of the Okavango Delta is at the heart of Botswana’s safari attractions, flanked in the east by the rolling savannah of the Savuti and the teeming elephant paradise of the Chobe.

Your African Safari in Botswana | Great Plains

Welcome to Botswana.

The value of an African safari is intangible. It is a journey of the spirit. The soul of Africa refreshes, restores and changes one’s life.

We at Great Plains Conservation provide the perfect setting for your personalised African safari adventure to Botswana, Zimbabwe, Kenya and beyond.

Your stay allows you to create memories that focus on your life story, adventure, romance, and exploration. Feed your soul, get close to your family and loved ones, and ultimately reconnect with yourself.

We are the nurturing “safe pair of hands” for your journey to the African wilderness.

As National Geographic Explorers, Beverly and I have made films in these places, or still want to, with lions or elephants, leopards or rhinos as familiar as our own family. Our selection of handpicked African safari camps and locations come from over 35 years of filming in the wilds of Africa.

Each of our safari camps is personally designed and decorated by the two of us, expressing our appreciation. Each, in many ways, is a visual love letter to Africa, its wildlife and our people. They are small and intimate, some with just eight beds and others sleeping only 14 guests. Our Réserve-Collection camps are also proudly Relais & Châteaux members – the only member properties in the countries where we operate!

We don’t do extensive. We don’t jam tents together. Space, quiet, time and quality are precious to you and us.

Our Great Plains family opens its heart to you. We can’t wait for you to embark on your African safari with us.

Take time to explore our safari sightings shared directly from our safari camps, or enjoy our comprehensive range of videos specially made for you. You could also sit back and let the sounds of the Great Plains Safari Soundtrack entice you to dream of your perfect African safari with us.

Welcome, Dumela, Karibu

Africa - Botswana

Is Africa one of your dream travel destinations? If so, Botswana should be on your list.

Seeing the animals from the water offers a different amazing vantage point. I did a land and boat safari in Chobe National Park when I was in Botswana and the highlight was seeing so many elephants playing in the water on the boat safari. The Okavango Delta is a great spot for a safari in a mokoro which is an adventure! Botswana can be paired with Zimbabwe, Zambia, Namibia and or South Africa.

Keep in mind, it is best to plan at least a year in advance for Africa as many of the top lodges fill up quickly as they are limited in space. When you are ready, I am excited to plan your African adventure! Email Stefany at: stefany@largaytravel.com and or info@dmctraveltailor.com.

With passion and adventure,

Stefany
