5 Things to do in Ballarat with Kids | Melbourne (Australia) Travel Guide

Get ready to discover 5 of the best things to do in Ballarat that the whole family will enjoy. We'll take you on a tour through one of the most important ex-gold mining cities in the history of the world.

Panning for gold at Sovereign Hill is not the only attraction, but it certainly is a must-do experience if you're in the city. Once you're done gold mining, make sure you take the kids to Kryal Castle for the ultimate throwback to medieval times.

Of course, a trip is not complete without getting up close and personal with native Australian wildlife at the Ballarat Wildlife Park where you can feed kangaroos, llamas, and emus (and even snap some animal selfies for the gram).

One of the top Ballarat attractions is Lake Wendouree - a great place to spend a lazy afternoon with the kids and let them run wild at the huge playground and immerse yourself in the serenity of nature. Cross over to the Botanical Gardens to check out exotic species of colourful plants and a walk down the Avenue of Prime Ministers.

This is the perfect family weekend getaway and one of the top things to do in Victoria if you want to retreat into the country to get away from the hustle and bustle of Melbourne city life - a nice and short day trip even that's only a 1.5 hour drive away.

BALLARAT BOTANICAL GARDENS - PRIME MINISTERS AVENUE

So not to make a really long video I will make our walk in the Gardens a 2 part series. This being Part 1. I hope you enjoy the gardens and the Prime Ministers Avenue.

Please Note : I was talking to a few passers by about Bob Hawke passing away. I was laughing at the lady who was already trying to check if I was right on Google. Wasn't laughing at Bob Hawke passing away. Everyone loved good old BOB.
