A day exploring Rotterdam | Netherlands travel vlog
In this travel vlog, we go exploring to the city of Rotterdam here in The Netherlands. What makes Rotterdam special, is that it´s a more modern and urban looking city, compared to the rest of the country. Making it quite different!
During our day we cross the Erasmus bridge, visit the Cube houses, the Maritime museum, do a boat tour around the Rotterdam port and enjoy some delicious foods. We also try Japanese curry for the first time ever!

Wij zijn Pieter en Marieke en sinds 2015 varen we met onze motorboot de Canicula door Nederland. Tijdens onze eerste vaartocht door Overijssel vallen we van de ene verbazing in de andere. Over de imposante bebouwing van Vollenhove, de massieve zeesluis van Blokzijl, het dijkdorp Kuinre. Geweldig! Inmiddels zijn we bijna heel Nederland door gevaren. Om iedereen te laten zien hoe mooi Nederland is vanaf het water, maken we video's van onze vaartochten en schrijven we artikelen over wat we allemaal tegenkomen onderweg. De Canicula is een St. Tropez cabincruiser van negen meter lang, tachtig centimeter diep en ruim twee meter hoog.

The Netherlands is such a beautiful country and I can't wait to go back to see even more of it.The Netherlands definitely needs to be on your travel bucket list!

Netherlands National Windmill Day in Schiedam or Nationale Molendag!
Today was National Windmill Day in Schiedam Netherlands or Nationale Molendag. These windmills are the tallest in the world and the view from the top is amazing! You can walk to each windmill and go to the top for free on this day. Folks young and old dressed in period costumes singing, dancing and marching in the streets. Schiedam Netherlands is a small town right outside Rotterdam and it's so easy to get to by tram or metro. When we moved from the US to the Netherlands we never knew that this existed and these are a national treasures to Holland and are celebrated with a national holiday each spring. So today was all about food, fun and windmills. As a retired expat I can tell you this...The Dutch people love tradition and know how to celebrate it!

Dopo sei anni dalla nostra prima visita, torniamo a Rotterdam per visitare la città come si deve: passiamo da un piccolo ponte giallo che è la prima opera pubblica europea ad essere stata finanziata con il crowdfunding, attraversiamo l'Erasmus Bridge per raggiungere la parte più nuova della città con i suoi alti grattacieli dove ci tuffiamo in un tour gastronomico. Ci destreggiamo tra le opere di street art senza però trascurare le attrazioni più famose della città tra cui il mercato coperto Markthal, le Case Cubiche, Het Park e Delfshaven.
Questa volta non ci perdiamo i mulini più alti del mondo a Schiedam, città natale del Jenever, un distillato al gusto di ginepro che ha dato origine al gin.
Prendiamo il treno e raggiungiamo Utrecht per visitare la torre campanaria più alta d'Olanda, la Dom Tower, fare un giro sui canali della città e ammirare il capolavoro architettonico di Casa Rietveld Schröder.

Meet the World's Tallest Windmills in Schiedam, Holland
Schiedam lies to the west of Rotterdam,The Netherlands. It has a small yet charming 18th century town center, looking like a pocket-size Amsterdam. At the western edge of Schiedam's old center, lined up along the former outer canal, stand the world's six tallest windmills.
Their location explains their height. When the windmills were built, between 1770 and 1803, they stood in what was then the edge of town and the industrial area. They were built for the grinding of grain needed for the distillation of gin, then Schiedam's main industry. To catch as much wind as possible, they were made to stand high above the city, which came to lie at their feet. Filmed by John Valk. Textsource:
