Visiting MONTEVIDEO's Attractions + Eating CHIVITO (Uruguay's National Dish) ????????

Hello from Montevideo! In today’s video, we'll be visiting some of the city's attractions and also sampling Uruguay's national dish - chivito! We started the morning with a visit to the iconic Palacio Salvo, which is a landmark in Montevideo’s Old Town. This was the tallest building in all of South America up until the year 1935. If you think Palacio Salvo looks familiar, that’s because you can find its twin, Palacio Barolo, across the pond in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Both were designed by the Italian architect Mario Palanti. Originally, the idea for this particular structure was to build a hotel, however, in the end only one floor ever functioned as that, and all the other floors were turned into apartments and office space. During our tour, we also visited the viewing deck on the 25th floor, where you get a bird’s eye view of Montevideo.

Then, we continued to Bar Hispánico for lunch, where we ordered chivito - Uruguay's national dish! Chivito consists of a beef steak, which can be served in sandwich or plated form. It is then topped with a mountain of mozzarella cheese, tomatoes, mayonnaise, olives, bacon, beets, eggs, ham, fries and just about anything else you can imagine. It's a must-try dish for anyone visiting Uruguay.

The following day we explored the beachside neighbourhood of Pocitos, which is beautiful for a stroll along the waterfront. Fun fact: Montevideo's rambla is the longest continuous sidewalk in the world stretching 22.2 kilometres in length down the coast! This is also where you'll find the Montevideo city sign for that classic postcard shot of the city. The sign gets repainted quite often, so you never know what colours or patterns you'll get on your visit.

We hope you enjoy this video and we'll see you again in the next one!

Travelling to MONTEVIDEO, Uruguay + Trying URUGUAYAN STEAK + Tannat Wine in the Capital!

In today's video, we'll be travelling from Colonia del Sacramento to Montevideo - the capital of Uruguay - and then we'll be trying Uruguayan steak! So we started the day off in Colonia where we had a few hours to spare before catching the bus to the capital. We spent the morning enjoying a leisurely stroll through the old town, and we also made time to climb the lighthouse, which offers beautiful views of the River Plate and Colonia's old town.

We then made our way to the bus terminal, where we enjoyed a quick lunch of empanadas before getting on the bus to Montevideo. It was a 3-hour journey across farmland and rural towns. Overall, a very enjoyable and easy trip.

Once we arrived in Montevideo, we checked into our apartment overlooking Plaza Independencia, and then it was time to start thinking about food. Of course, for our first meal in the capital, we decided to try Uruguayan steak. Much like neighbouring Argentina, Uruguay enjoys a very high reputation for the quality of its beef.

We ate at a steakhouse called El Fogón, where we ordered the 'entrecot', which is the ribeye steak and one of the most popular cuts of meat in Uruguay. We paired this with a Tannat wine, which is the national grape of Uruguay. Overall a great meal and a wonderful start to our trip in Montevideo!

Restaurant address: El Fogón, San José 1080, 11100 Montevideo, Uruguay

Top 5 Uruguay Food, Uruguay Cuisine You Must Try It Once. #64 @taroballworld #Shorts

Uruguayan cuisine is a delightful blend of European, Indigenous, and African influences, resulting in a unique culinary experience. Known for its rich flavors and hearty dishes, Uruguay's local cuisine reflects its agricultural heritage and the country's love for meat. Here are some iconic dishes you should try when exploring Uruguayan cuisine:

1. Asado: Considered the national dish of Uruguay, asado refers to the traditional barbecue. It involves grilling a variety of meats, including beef, pork, and sausages, over an open fire. The slow cooking process creates succulent and flavorful cuts of meat, which are often accompanied by chimichurri sauce.

2. Chivito: A Uruguayan sandwich that is both hearty and delicious. It typically consists of a tender beef steak, ham, mozzarella cheese, lettuce, tomato, bacon, olives, and mayonnaise, all piled on a bun. Chivito can also include fried eggs and other condiments, making it a satisfying meal.

3. Milanesa: Influenced by Italian cuisine, milanesa is a breaded and fried meat cutlet. The most common version is made with beef, but you can also find variations with chicken or pork. It is often served with mashed potatoes or a side of rice and accompanied by a fresh salad.

4. Empanadas: These savory pastries are a staple in Uruguayan cuisine. Empanadas are filled with a variety of ingredients such as beef, chicken, cheese, ham, onions, and olives. They are baked or fried until golden and make for a delicious snack or appetizer.

5. Pascualina: A traditional Uruguayan pie filled with spinach, eggs, and cheese. The layers of dough encase the savory filling, creating a delightful combination of flavors. Pascualina is often enjoyed as a main course or as part of a light lunch.

6. Mate: While not a dish per se, mate is a significant part of Uruguayan culture. It is a traditional herbal tea made from the leaves of the yerba mate plant. Drinking mate is a social activity, and it is customary to share a gourd of mate with friends and family.

7. Dulce de Leche: A popular sweet treat in Uruguay, dulce de leche is a thick caramel-like spread made from condensed milk. It is used in various desserts, such as alfajores (cookie sandwiches filled with dulce de leche) or served simply with bread or pancakes.

These are just a few highlights of Uruguay's local cuisine. The country also offers a range of seafood dishes, pasta, stews, and regional specialties that showcase the diversity of its culinary traditions. Exploring Uruguayan cuisine will undoubtedly be a delightful experience for food enthusiasts.

We're Going to URUGUAY! ???????????? | Ferry from Buenos Aires to COLONIA on the BUQUEBUS ????️ + Uruguayan BBQ!

We're off to a new country: Uruguay! In this episode, we'll take Buquebus ferry from Buenos Aires to Colonia del Sacramento. This is just a short ferry crossing across the River Plate that takes about an hour. Colonia is a popular day trip from Buenos Aires, but if you have a bit more time, it's nice to spend a few days enjoying this charming town. We'll talk about costs, show you what the ferry crossing is like, and once we get settled into our apartment in Colonia, we'll take you out for our first Uruguayan barbecue.

If you are thinking of going from Argentina to Uruguay taking the Buquebus ferry is your best option. You can take the shorter crossing of Buenos Aires to Colonia; however, you also have the option of doing the longer crossing to Montevideo. Alternatively there is an overland crossing by bus which you can take at night if you're looking to save on accommodations for the evening. I did that over 10 years ago; however, given the choice we'd go with the ferry. We were all feeling really excited to be in Uruguay together and to go out for one of our first of many Uruguayan bbq (also known as Uruguayan asado). We're looking forward to sharing more travel videos from Uruguay soon.

ACRES DE SOLANAS - URUGUAY (english)

Acres de Solanas is located in the Laguna del Sauce, a picturesque stretch on the Atlantic coast and a stone's throw from the pristine beaches of Portezuelo and Solanas. The development is just an hour from Montevideo, 5 minutes from the Laguna del Sauce Airport and a 15 minute drive from all the action of downtown Punta del Este.

This venture offers the perfect blend for those who love boating, outdoor activities, sports, beaches, top notch cuisine and a thriving nightlife but who also value tranquility, comfort and safety as main priorities.

Acres de Solanas is a venture of 32 acres, divided into 66 plots of 2000 m2 each.

Residents can choose to enjoy a great social/sporty life, enjoying their full free membership for Club del Lago Golf --worth US$10k- and Club Nautico de la Laguna (the lagoon´s boating club), with access to all their services.
