Lima Travel Guide - Peru Captial Exploration
Lima is the capital of Peru and its largest city. Founded in 1535 by the Spanish conquistador Francisco Pizarro, the modern city is a curious mix of the modern mega city with some 'islands of modernity', large but orderly slum areas and colonial architecture in the city center. Lima was the seat of the Spanish rule during 300 years, and as such it has wonderful churches, cloisters and monasteries that are worth a visit.
Lima is also the best place to try the wonderful Peruvian cuisine, which has a huge variety of ingredients from coast, mountain and Amazon regions. The cold sea current in front of Peru's large coast makes the sea very rich in fish and seafood, which have a great taste due to the special plankton they eat. Fish and seafood restaurants are therefore worth the time, and not expensive.
Lima is built upon a valley surrounded by an extremely arid desert. In the summer, the weather is usually beautiful, very warm and sunny, sometimes with rains around January. In the winter, the city is overcast and rainy for days at a time. The rain in the wintertime doesn't fall hard, but it gets everything wet.

Consists of four areas: Centro Historico, Barrios Altos, Barrio Chino, and Santa Beatriz.

Includes the neighborhoods of Bellavista, Brena, Carmen de la Legua Reynoso, Callao, Jesus Maria, La Perla, Lince, La Punta, Magdalena del Mar, Pueblo Libre, San Isidro, and San Miguel, as well as the islands of San Lorenzo, El Frontón, and Cavinzas.
Lima's pre-Hispanic and colonial architecture is beautiful and the city has several museums (such as Museo Larco) that tell the story of a country with a long history that produced a large number of coastal and Andean civilizations (such as the Moche, Chavin, and the Incas) and many local cultures. There are several archeological sites both within and around the city (locally known as huaca).
Miraflores, Barranco and San Isidro are some of the nicest and safest areas in the city. Although they sometimes come a bit pricier than the old city center and other parts, some budget accommodation options do exist.
A lot to see in Lima such as :
The historic downtown, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The Circuito Mágico del Agua (Magic Water Tour), a fountain and light display in the Parque de la Reserva and Parque Fermín Tangüis.
The Parque del Amor (Lovers' Park) in Miraflores.
The Costa Verde, Lima's impressive green coast stretches between San Miguel and Chorrillos.
The tourist-friendly districts of Barranco, Miraflores and Santiago de Surco.
The historical sites of Pueblo Libre, including the Cruz del Viajero, a monumental Christian cross dating from the era of the Conquistadores.
Lima's best shopping malls: Plaza Norte, Jockey Plaza, Larcomar, Mall Aventura Plaza, Real Plaza Salaverry.
Historical churches: Lima´s Cathedral, Santo Domingo (San Martín de Porres), Santa Rosa (Santa Rosa de Lima), Nazarenas (Señor de los Milagros), San Francisco.
Museums: Museo nacional de Arqueología, Antropología e Historia (Pueblo Libre), Museo de Arte (Paseo Colón), Museo Pedro de Osma (Barranco), Museo Rafael Larco (Pueblo Libre).

Lima is such a foodie city that every single time we come back to revisit we find new restaurants to add to our list of favorites. Join us for a Peruvian Cuisine Review as we head over to a Amazon jungle restaurant in Lima, Peru where eat typical Amazonian food. Some of the typical dishes from the Amazon in Peru included things we had an opportunity to try for the first time in Iquitos such as Juane and Tacacho. It was a great thrill to be eating this type of Peruvian cuisine again and since Audrey's Grandmother spent time living in this region of Peru it was something she really enjoyed as well. The following is a list of the Peruvian Amazonian cuisine we sampled:

Breve Reseña Histórica
La historia del distrito de Santiago de Surco se remonta a la época prehispánica, cuando estas tierras pertenecían al Señorío de Sulco, el cual estaba surcado por la acequia del mismo nombre.
El cronista Bernabé Cobo lo describe como una de las más caudalosas acequias. Según la ordenanza de regadío de 1909, empezaba en el fundo Salinas y terminaba en la Hacienda Villa.
El Señorío está dividido en 4 ayllus, éstos fueron: el Calla Uno, Centaulli, Yacay, y Cuchán.
La capital del Señorío estaba ubicada en la falda oriental del morro Solar y era conocido como Armatampu o Armatambo.
En suma este Señorío comprendía los distritos que hoy conocemos como: Chorrillos, Barranco, Surquillo, Santiago de Surco y parte de San Juan de Miraflores.
También existían barrios que formaban la vecindad de Armatambo, estos eran: Comuco, Falana o Talana, Chamac o Chama y el Falcón. Otros barrios recibieron nombres españoles, como es el caso de Tejadita o Naranjuel.
Cada barrio tenía una acequia del mismo nombre que se desprendía o bifurcaban del río o canal de Sulco.
El río tenia un ancho y volumen considerable, que permitía la navegación en embarcaciones ligeras, además contenía gran cantidad de peces, como la Lisa que entraba en el mar, lo que hacia que se practicara la pesca en agua dulce.
El pueblo de Sulco era un pueblo netamente de pescadores y agricultores y tenían ellos una divinidad a la que llamaban Sulcovilca, representada por una roca o peñón.
La población disminuyó cuando se fundó la reducción Toledana de Sulco, siendo elegida como sede de reducción el Ayllu de Yacay. Luego a los Jesuitas se les asignó un lugar donde construirían su iglesia Santiago Apóstol en el año 1571.
Durante la colonia, Surco sirvió de residencia temporal a varios virreyes debido a las bondades del clima.
El Conde de Cautelar residió aquí entre los años 1679 y 1681. Despues, él ya no vivía en este lugar pero lo visitaba con frecuencia, pues en este valle nació su único hijo y fue su hijo, quién mandó a forrar de plata maciza la pileta de la Iglesia Santiago Apóstol.
La ley transitoria de las municipalidades se promulgó el 2 de enero de 1857. Durante esa época Surco era parte del distrito de Barranco, pero los vecinos de Surco consiguieron que el Presidente A gusto B. Leguía promulgase la ley Nº 6644 en donde se crea el distrito de Santiago de Surco un 16 de noviembre de 1929.
