O Castelo de Santarém é um monumento histórico, exemplo singular e imponente da arquitetura medieval portuguesa. Embora tenha sido construído no século XII, sofreu várias modificações ao longo dos séculos. O castelo foi um forte estratégico para controlar o acesso à cidade durante a Idade Média. Hoje, o castelo abriga um museu que exibe várias exposições relacionadas à história e cultura da região de Santarém.

3 - Convento de São Francisco

A Torre das Cabaças é um marco na cidade e um dos pontos turísticos mais populares. É possível subir até o topo da torre para apreciar uma vista panorâmica incrível da cidade e do rio Tejo.

Construída no século XIII, a Igreja do Santíssimo Milagre é um monumento histórico importante em Portugal. Localizada no centro histórico da cidade, a Igreja é famosa por abrigar uma importante relíquia cristã, o Santíssimo Milagre, que segundo a fé católica contém um pedaço do pão e vinho que se transformaram no próprio corpo e sangue de Jesus Cristo. É um lugar de peregrinação, atraindo fiéis católicos de todo o mundo.

This is a special place: a small town with a walking friendly historic center, beautiful city parks along Nabão River, squares surrounded by churches... and - standing at the top of a hill - the AMAZING Convent of Christ of Tomar, UNESCO World Heritage since 1983.

I hope you enjoy learning everything about Tomar, and knowing about my TOP 5 places there! I am thinking about doing TOP 5's of other parts of Portugal as a monthly video, so let me know if there is some place special you would like to learn about.

Inserted within the walls of what remains of the Castle of Santarém, which D. Afonso Henriques conquered from the Moors in 1147, this space is today transformed into a large garden, where we can observe a magnificent landscape over the plain torn by the Tagus River. Here we can visit the old turrets and the Passos Canavarro museum, dedicated to Lezíria and the Tagus.
