8 Reasons Why Americans LEAVE Costa Rica [Why I Left]

The TRUTH about living in Costa Rica: Why do so many Americans leave Costa Rica after moving there? In this video, I explain what causes expats to change their minds about retiring abroad and why I left Costa Rica after 8 years. Some of the initial reasons that people want to move to Costa Rica include the moderate climate, laid back lifestyle, fresh and healthy food, friendly people, beaches, medical tourism, and the low cost of living. But is Costa Rica really a safe and friendly country or is it actually dangerous and expensive? Once they arrive, many people realize that living in Costa Rica wasn't quite what they expected. Unfortunately, that results in people returning home quite soon after arriving.

After helping more than 500 foreigners move to Costa Rica and living there for eight years, this video explains the top reasons why people move back to the USA and why I left, too, so that you know more about what to expect BEFORE you get there. This is the real and sometimes dark truth about living in Costa Rica. What do you think are the biggest pros and cons of living in Costa Rica? Let us know in the comments.

Hi I'm Ayngelina and my full time job is my site BaconisMagic.ca it's all about the best food around the world and how to make it at home.

In 2010 I left a job in advertising, 5 year relationship and sold all my possessions to travel the world. In the last ten years I've had some crazy experiences and even owned a restaurant in Toronto at one time. And prior to 2020 I had been based in Cuba.

When the world shut down I returned to Canada and decided to teach myself video. I wanted to share more than just words and photos but to show people the adventures I have learning about food around the world.

I'm not married. I have no kids. But I do have a lot of local friends who help me discover the best local tips.

The most remote inhabited island in the world ????

Welcome to the most isolated place on earth.

This island is the world's most isolated inhabited location. It is also one of the few places on Earth without a physical border with another land mass. It’s located in the South Atlantic Ocean approximately 1,700 miles from Cape Town in South Africa and 2,400 miles from Mar del Plata in South America. Welcome to Tristan da Cunha. One of the least populated places in the world, with only 300 people.

This is a self-governing territory of the United Kingdom with its own constitution.
The only way to travel to Tristan is by ship from Cape Town, but only a limited number of berths are available.

The island has a circular shape with a 21-mile-long coastline. Despite its small size, it is undoubtedly an interesting and unusual destination to explore.

Best Hikes of Costa Rica: Santa Elena Cloud Forest Reserve

CAÑO NEGRO Trail is arguably the best rain forest hike in Costa Rica.

1:18 Start of hike through rain forest
3:29 Arrival at first lookout
5:02 Arrival at second lookout
5:56 View from observation deck
6:52 Conclusion

To help protect rainforests please go to

They call the rainforests here in Costa Rica the crown jewel of the earth. Once you enter one, you realize you're entering into a different world.

Beautiful flowers that seem like they're made out of plastic and painted with bright colourful automobile paint give this green world some incredible color. With all of these plants and trees surrounding me I feel like I'm in a cocoon.

The air in here is so thick and clean. There’s an extremely calm vibration, humming and buzzing in the background. Although I'm completely alone in here I feel extremely connected. Not just to this forest, but to our planet and even our universe.

If you really want to feel the soul of our planet this is where you need to come. There is something deeply spiritual and holy about these forest habitats. I don't know what it is, but I can definitely sense it. I know it sounds crazy, but I can feel the trees speaking to me. I can even feel them loving me.

I love these forests. Probably the trees more than anything because without these trees our planet would be dead. These trees don’t just help stabilize our planet by absorbing and storing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. They also release almost a gallon of water every day back into nature. That's why the forest often looks like it's steaming.

Inside these rainforest over half a million different species of plants and animals live and work together to create one of the most bio diverse habitats on the planet.

More species live in this biome than all other biomes of our planet combined. In fact, hundreds of millions of new species of plants, insects and microorganisms are still waiting to be discovered in here.

Costa Rica is one of the top 20 most bio diverse nations on the planet and actually ranks number one in terms of biodiversity per area unit.

Costa Rica has done an amazing job of setting aside and protecting these forests. Over a quarter of the land in Costa Rica has been set aside as wildlife refuge, nature preserve or national park.

Scientist still don't know why Costa Rica is so blessed with such natural splendor. They believe that perhaps 3 to 5,000,000 years ago a much larger bridge between Costa Rica and Panama connected north and south America.

That allowed different plants and animals to mix resulting in one of the most diverse ecosystems in the world.
Ascanio and Nikita (his KTM 1290 Super adventure R) are on a round-the-world adventure motorcycle riding solo expedition. Right now he is in Central America in the middle of his ktm adventure.

Late in 2021 Ascanio started his motorcycle expedition. After two months in Mexicon and a week and a half in Belize, Ascanio started a motorcycle travel channel. After a month in Guatemala, two and a half weeks in El Salvador, two weeks in Honduras and another two weeks in Nicaragua, Ascanio made it to Costa Rica.

His goal is to travel all the way to the end of the world, Argentina. Only is Ascanio interested in seeing the most beautiful places, trying the best foods in the region, and indulging himself in the most extreme sports, he now has a mission: to provide small water filtration devices to remote villages I don't have access to clean water. That same year he discovered rock climbing and mountain biking. Since then Ascanio has been mountain biking and climbing the most extreme terrain he can find in the western United States. Now he has a new passion: adventure motorcycle riding.
Ascanio is currently in Central America riding his KTM 1290 super adventure R touring some of the most dangerous, exotic and exciting countries exploring places that are well off the beaten track to learn and pursue his passion for extreme sports.
