Come with me to experience this AMAZING week of Oaxacan festivities in a small town you've probably never heard of called Santa Maria Mixtequilla. The reason I say that is because NO ONE has ever made a vlog of this place before.
One of my good friends Ivett's family is from this small town and she invited me to come here and get the local's perspective on this incredible cultural experience. Every year the people of Santa Maria Mixtequilla throw a huge festival-like celebration they call Fiestas patronales de la Virgin Santa Catalina de Siena.
This Mexico vlog includes:
- Multiple elaborate parades filled with music, candy-throwing, and townspeople dressed in traditional Oaxacan clothing
- A behind-the-scenes look at Oaxacan food is made
- Adorable animals like pollito, my adopted chickadee
- A look at the beautiful clothing worn in this region (huipiles and enaguas) and how women do their hair and makeup
- Crazy pyrotechnics called toritos and the castillo
- The 5-hour expedition for forest flowers

Visita Virtual al Museo de Arte Religioso, Ex-Convento de Santa Mónica, Puebla, México, realizada el 24 de diciembre de 2022. En esta visita se muestran el patio principal, el baño, la cocina, el refectorio o comedor, la sala capitular, la biblioteca, la urna conteniendo el corazón del Obispo Manuel Fernández de Santa Cruz, fundador del convento, la sala de trabajo, la sala de reliquias, una celda personal, y el despacho de la priora del convento, en el cual se descubró la entrada secreta al oculto convento el 18 de mayo de 1934. En la última sala se exhiben las cinco enormes pinturas en terciopelo del pintor cholulteca Rafael Morante, las cuales miden más de 3 x 3 m y datan del año 1850. En estas pinturas, los ojos de las personas en ellas aparentan moverse de un lado al otro conforme se desplaza el observador.

Virtual visit to the Museum of Religious Art, Ex-Convent of Santa Monica, Puebla, Mexico, which took place on December 24, 2022. The visit shows the main patio, the bathroom, the kitchen, the dining room, the capitular room, the library, the urn containing the heart of Bishop Manuel Fernández de Santa Cruz, founder of the convent, the workroom, the relic room, a personal cell, and the office of the prioress of the convent, in which was discovered the secret entrance to the hidden convent on May 18, 1934. The last room exhibits the five huge velvet paintings by the Cholultecan painter Rafael Morante, which measure more than 3 x 3 m and date from the year 1850.
In these paintings, the eyes of the people in them appear to move from one side to the other with the displacement of the observer.

Lesser known places in Mexico are amazing! ????????
In this video we go off the beaten path slightly and head to two fairly unknown towns located about two and a half hours north of Mexico City, Tequisquiapan and Bernal ⛰️
Tequisquiapan has a population of 72,000 people. It’s known for its mineral spas and the well-preserved Spanish colonial buildings lining its cobbled streets. In the center, the pink neoclassical Santa María de la Asunción church overlooks arcaded Plaza Miguel Hidalgo, which we visit. The town is known for crafts like the handwoven baskets sold at the handicrafts market, which we also visit ????
Bernal has a population of just under 3,000 people. This cute little town is known for its enormous monolith rock, the Peña de Bernal, the third highest on the planet. In 2005 Bernal was designated as a Pueblo Magico (Magical town) and I can see why. It feels very authentic and cultural.
Now, in 2022, there are currently 132 Magical Towns in Mexico ❤️
