Xela to Lake Atitlan 3-Day Trek

One of the best experiences you can have traveling in Guatemala is the 3-day trek with Quetzal Trekkers from Xela to Lake Atitlan.

This epic trek covers around 45 km and passes through some incredible landscapes. Sleep in remote villages en route to the famous lake and get to know more about the history and culture of Guatemala. Best of all, it's all for a good cause.

Quetzal Trekkers is a non-profit that provides education, housing, and social support to disadvantaged children in the city of Xela.

CENTRAL AMERICA BACKPACKING TRIP | Mexico, Belize & Guatemala - Trailer

I went solo backpacking around Central America for 6 weeks, travelling through Mexico, Belize and Guatemala.

This 3 part documentary series shows the entire backpacking experience.

From the fun activities, beautiful sites, crazy parties, to the exhausting journeys and the good, bad and ugly hostels.

Flying into Cancun, Mexico, I made my way to Tulum to check out the cenotes. Then chilled out at the beautiful Lake Bacalar before crossing the border into Belize.

Caye Caulker island was a great place to chill and party, as well as do some incredible snorkelling. From here I took a 3 day island-hopping boat tour with Ragamuffin tours along the Belize Barrier Reef.

Heading inland I went to San Ignacio, exploring the Caracol ruins by jeep. Then I crossed the border into Guatemala, staying in the beautiful town of Flores to visit the ancient Mayan ruins of Tikal.

Next stop was the beautiful Semuc Champey, stunning waterfalls in the jungle-filled mountains. Then I went to Antigua and got to roast some marsh-mellows on Pacaya volcano.

I then did a 3 day trek from Xela to Lake Atitlan, hiking through cloud forests, corn fields, small villages and staying with local families.

At Lake Atitlan I got to try out horse-riding for the first time before finishing up my trip at El Paredon on the Pacific Coast.

Norte: Santa Clara La Laguna y San Pablo La Laguna
Noreste: Lago de Atitlán
Noroeste: Santa María Visitación
Este: San Pedro La Laguna
Sur: departamento de Suchitepéquez
Oeste: Santa Catarina Ixtahuacán

Kenny's 2013 Food for the Poor Guatemala Trip - Feb. 2013, Pt. 10

Here's a collection of a few short videos from our van as we traveled up and down the Guatemalan countryside. The views here were pretty typical of what we saw in most of the rural and mountain areas.

All Inclusive In Antigua | One Week In The Caribbean

Ever wanted to experience an All Inclusive trip to the Caribbean?

I spent a week on the island of Antigua, staying at the Verandah Resort.

I was invited out there by Traverse Events and Antigua & Barbuda Tourism board to experience everything the island has to offer along with nearly 40 other different travel content creators.

Together we go kayaking, scooter snorkelling, biking through St John's, watching the sunset at Shirley Heights and even became extras in a work out video for Fleur East.

Guatemala City Highest Bridge

Hello Friends! this is Puente del Incienso, located in the heart of Guatemala City, the massive Incienso viaduct is the highest road bridge in Central America carrying 6 lanes more than 131 metres above a V-shaped ravine. The main span is 122 metres. Around and under the bridge people have built houses, a few hundred people have jumped to their deaths, even thought its fenced.

BBtv WORLD: Through the eyes of the pueblo (Guatemala)

BBtv WORLD is our recently-launched series on Boing Boing tv featuring first-person views of life around the globe. This third episode in our series is the last of a three-part report I filed from a K'iche Maya community in Guatemala.

Few foreigners come to this village at 10,000 feet in the highlands. Most glimpses we have of remote indigenous communities like this are through the lenses of outsiders -- like myself. But how better to see their story than through the eyes of the people themselves?

Before I left the US for this pueblo a few weeks ago, we asked two companies that produce small, inexpensive, USB camcorders -- Pure Digital (makers of the Flip) and RCA (makers of the Small Wonder) -- to donate a few devices. I brought them to the village, so that some of the adults and young people here could explore what is possible with the tools of video storytelling in their own hands.

Today's BBtv WORLD is the result: stories shot by the K'iche people in this village. The world they see around them, through their own eyes and in their own language.

Some of what the children shot really surprised me. They caught on right away, faster even than the adults, and quickly taught each other how to record and play back video. Some of them seemed to transform into instant YouTube stars -- new alter-egos showed up out of nowhere. One boy we'd come to know as quiet and well-mannered over the course of many previous visits here shot himself throwing gang signs against the sunlight, like shadow puppets, while he walked a path that leads to a Mayan altar. Another girl who was very shy with us in person recorded video of herself making outrageous silly faces, and speaking in a boisterous, confident voice to her new handheld lens.

When I downloaded the footage from their devices, I felt as if I were seeing this place, and these people, for the first time.
