Verona, Italy

travel videos & photos at: with text, maps & links.
Verona is most famous for its Roman amphitheater. Next to it is one of the largest piazzas in Italy. Piazza Bra, with several main streets emanating from the central part of town. Via Mazzini is the most popular of the shopping streets in this pedestrian zone, and it leads on to the Piazza della Erbe, which had been the ancient Roman forum, and then the main square of Verona, the pedestrian zone lined with shops and cafes is a major feature of town.
But the most popular attraction for many people is the House of Juliet. As in Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, which was set here in Verona.

They were interred in and outside several churches, along with Mazzini, the other main shopping street is Corso Sant Anastasia, which leads to a major church of the same name.
We're taking you on a walking tour from one end of town to the other, up north to the Ponte Pietra with two stone arches on the right side, built nearly 2000 years ago during the Roman period. The hill across the river on the left bank has a long history because it was here. The first settlement of Iran was founded.
A fortress atop the hill offers the best vantage point for views across the whole city, where you can see how the river wraps around the historic center. Like a moat. Yet this rapidly flowing river divides the town in two, traversing the picturesque medieval bridge with a tower gateway. At one end leads you back into the right bank. The main part of downtown.

Castello di Motta Saint' Anastasia |Sicily|

In this video, you'll see the Motta Castle locally known as Castello di Motta Saint' Anastasia. The castle is located in Motta Saint Anastasia in Sicily, Italy which is about 20-30 mins away from Catania International Airport.

The present castle was built around 1080 by the Normans on behalf of Roger I, King of Sicily. In 1091 it was granted to the Bishop of Catania. In 1250 it was taken from the Bishop by Frederick II, Holy Roman Emperor. And in 1267 it went to the Capetian House of Anjou.

In 1408, the Baron of Motta; Sancho Ruiz de Lihori, imprisoned the Count of Modica; Bernardo Cabrera, in Motta Sant'Anastasia Castle. In 1455 the castle returned to the State and was granted to Ludovico de Perellos by Alfonso V of Aragon.

Wine Making and Tasting - Sant'anastasia vineyard - Sicily

Joolz in Sicily - in which I experience the wine making process at the Sant'anastasia vineyard, followed by a wine tasting.
We arrived just after they have harvested the grapes and get to taste the grape juice as it comes out of the press. We also taste it at various stages of the wine making process.
We are accompanied by Nancy Jung from Eat With Me Istanbul who is a food and wine blogger. Read her article about our visit here:

We were taken by Massimo Villas Collection to advertise their villas which are dotted all around nearby. A great place to stay whilst making visits to other parts of the island.

One Day in Verona, Italy: How to See Everything

Start at the bottom and work your way up. You'll see all the Romeo and Juliet sites, including where they lived and where they got married, along with the best views in Verona and amazing churches and piazzas.

Be sure to subscribe to see all our adventures around the world:

As you can see at the end of the video, we had time to spare. So if you want to go up the Torre dei Lamberti or go into the Arena, you can. Just make sure you watch your times, since ALL THE CHURCHES CLOSE AT 5pm, with a siesta break from 1-1:30.

You can easily see the entire city in one day. We started at the bottom (San Zeno and Castelvecchio) and zig-zagged our way up to the top, ending at the viewpoint (at Piazzale Castel San Pietro) for sunset. A little better planning would reduce the amount of walking we did (we covered more than 30,000 steps), but the town is so small that you can get across the entire thing in about 15 minutes.

Here is a list of everything we saw and the corresponding timestamps:

0:27 - Basilica San Zeno (where Romeo and Juliet got married)
3:01 - Castelvecchio
3:20 - Castelvecchio Bridge (aka Ponte Scaligero) - medieval bridge with the world's largest arch (at the time it was built)
3:49 - Piazza Bra
4:01 - Arena di Verona (it opens late on Mondays - at 1:30pm, every other day is 8:30am-7:30pm)
4:22 - Via Mazzini
4:39 - Porta Borsari
5:01 - Arco dei Gavi
5:12 - Lunch at Baccha Bundus (fantastic piadinas)
5:24 - Piazza della Erbe
5:29 - Piazza della Ragione
5:32 - Torre dei Lamberti
5:40 (and 12:00) - Casa di Giulietta (Juliet's House)
6:01 - Porta Leoni
6:10 - San Fermo (upper church)
6:51 - San Fermo (lower church)
7:28 - Casa di Romeo
7:36 - Sant'Anastasia
8:27 - Duomo di Verona (Verona Cathedral
9:10 - St. Elena
9:21 - The baptistry (St Giovanni in Fonte)
9:43 - Scaliger Tombs (Tombs of the della Scala family)
9:53 - Santa Maria Antica
10:02 and 10:38 - Ponte Pietra
10:41 - Piazzale Castel San Pietro (Best view in Verona)
10:54 - Dante's statue in Piazza dei Signori

This is the final day of our 11-day trip through Europe. Check out the whole trip here:

Moscow may be the capital of Russia, but if you are a culture vulture, then St Petersburg is the city for you. Home to the hermitage, one of the largest and most stunning art museums in the world, surrounded by canals, and home to beautiful white nights when the sun never sets in summer, this city is regal and inspiring. First-time visitors should start at the hermitage museum, a museum so large, it is literally impossible to see it all in one day and the beautiful Nevsky Avenue, flanked by opulent restaurants, churches, and palaces and a great palace for people watching.

Motta, thanks to its favorable geographical position of dominion over the plain of Catania, was consolidated over the centuries by the continuous and repeated invasions that began from the period of Dionysius, tyrant of Syracuse. It continued in its role during the Roman, Byzantine, Arab, Norman and finally the Swabian invasions. During the Norman period Motta played an important role in the defense of the city of Catania and the Simeto valley. It was Ruggero d'Altavilla, Count of Sicily, in the 11th century, who ordered the rebuilding of the ancient castle existing on the cliff of Motta. Its main function was that of a lookout post and first defense stronghold.

Basilica of Santa Anastasia in Verona, Italy ????????

The church of San Pietro da Verona in Santa Anastasia , better known as the basilica of Santa Anastasia , is an important Catholic place of worship located in the heart of the historic center of Verona ; it is located in the terminal area of the maximum decumanus of the Roman city , near the point where the wide meander of the Adige river is cut by the Pietra bridge , where the two main city communication routes gravitate. road and river. It is the largest, solemn and representative Veronese church, a reflection of a lively moment in city life, in which the enlargement and consolidation of political and economic institutions allowed the community, in synergy with the Scaligera lordship , the Dominican clergy and the Castelbarco family , to do a notable financial effort to build this important temple, a symbol of their power.

The church was the most important Gothic episode for Verona , and in the years immediately following its construction it became a point of reference on which the projects of various other church buildings will be based, in particular as regards some innovations that Santa Anastasia brought to the plan, with the development of a large transept and the articulation of the apse area into four chapels on the sides of the presbytery where the main altar is located, the wall structure completely in brick and the new type of bell tower. The façade, apart from a majestic two-hole Gothic portal through which one enters the vast interior space divided into three naves by monumental cylindrical pillars, is unfinished. On the sides of the two side aisles there are some chapels and numerous altars, the most famous of which is the Fregoso altar made by Danese Cattaneo , also praised by Giorgio Vasari , you can also admire paintings and frescoes by well-known masters of painting Veronese and not, such as Pisanello , Altichiero , Liberale from Verona , Stefano da Zevio , Nicolò Giolfino ,Giovan Francesco Caroto , Felice Brusasorzi , Francesco Morone , Michele from Verona , Lorenzo Veneziano .

The genesis of its building events can be placed in 1260 when the Dominican friars who were outside the city walls obtained the land in which to build the new church and the new convent from the bishop of Verona Manfredo Roberti . The start date of the works in the large factory is 1290, however the construction site lasted a very long time and it can be said that it ended only in the forties of the fifteenth century, even if the fundamental structures were already ready in the third decade of the previous century. The basilica was solemnly consecrated on 22 October 1471 by the cardinal and bishop of Verona Giovanni Michiel, however, minor works continued for over two centuries, never completing the main façade. Suppressed in 1807 the Dominican order, the temple was entrusted to the secular clergy while the adjacent convent, now abandoned, later became the seat of the Scipione Maffei state high school.

The basilica is also the seat of a parish included in the vicariate of Verona Center.
