Winter in Vienna

It’s getting cozy inside – and calmer outside. Winter in Vienna instantly smells of mulled wine and roasted almonds. While the famous Christmas markets spoil you with typical Viennese treats the city is wreathed in snow. A season to remember, to reflect and – of course – to visit Vienna.

BAD ISCHL AUSTRIA | Tour of Historical Town in Salzkammergut

???????? What to see in Austria: Bad Ischl - The imperial summer residence town of Sissi in the Salzkammergut - Join me for a sunny walk in town in one of the best places to travel now!

Bad Ischl in the Salzkammergut region of Austria is one of the best places to travel now. This Austria travel vlog takes you on sunny walk in town where Empress Sissi of Austria used to spend her summers. If you plan to go visit Europe in summer, or you plan to go visit Austria soon, Bad Ischl should be part of your best Austria trip destinations. It's lush green gardens and the many beautiful flowers and historic architecture make it one of the best places to see in Austria. My walking tour in summer may show you that Bad Ischl is one of the hot travel tips for Europe this year and it may be one of the best travel destinations this year if you wonder what to see after Covid. I found it to be the best place to travel in Austria if you enjoy fresh and clean air and a beautiful alpine panorama. So if you don't know where to travel this year you may want to give Austria a try. It's one of the best places to travel now. You will surely enjoy Bad Ischl as a great place for the best summer walk this year.

The Salzkammergut (or Salzburger Land) is a particularly attractive region to visit in Austria. So plan to do a travel walking tour in the most beautiful village in Austria, or hike the Alpine mountains, or swim in beautiful lakes during your next Austria vacation ('Österreich Urlaub' in German). There are so many things to do in Salzburg and the surrounding Salzkammergut region that you don't want to miss.

Bad Ischl is a spa town in Austria. It lies in the southern part of Upper Austria, at the Traun River in the center of the Salzkammergut region. It is connected to the village of Strobl by the river Ischl, which drains from the Wolfgangsee, and to the Traunsee, into which the stream empties. It is home to the Kaiservilla, summer residence of Austro-Hungarian monarchs Emperor Franz Joseph I and Empress Sissi Elisabeth. In 2024, Bad Ischl is the European Capital of Culture – the third city in Austria after Graz (2003) and Linz (2009). Besides the Kaiservilla, the city offers several health spas and tourist attractions, like the historic Kongresshaus opened in 1875, the new Kurhaus built by Clemens Holzmeister in 1932, as well as the Lehár Villa, the former residence of Franz Lehár, that he acquired in 1912 and today serves as a museum.

Please also check out my other videos on my travel to Austria, including my trip to Salzburg and the surrounding mountains and valleys of the Salzkammergut such as Hallstatt, Bad Ischl, Gosau, St. Wolfgang, St. Gilgen, Gmunden, Zell am See and of course my trip to Vienna - and so much more. Mariazell & St. Pölten - in beautiful AUSTRIA

I'm sorry - The subtitles did not upload correctly to YouTube. Try to ignore them if you can!
Of the myriad of day trip possibilities (or overnight) from Vienna, one of the best is to head into the picturesque Alps and visit the charming mountain shrine town and ski resort of Mariazell. Mariazell is splendidly situated in the eastern Alps of Austria, right across the border of Lower Austria in the province of Steirmark (Styria). It is Central Europe's most revered religious destination for its famous shrine and basilica. Yet it also is a top-notch ski resort in winter. Of course Alpine hiking and biking can be undertaken through much of the year. And there is always local beer and other specialties.

To get there, one travels to the lovely capital city of Lower Austria - St. Pölten - on a choice of trains from Vienna's Westbahnhof. In St. Pölten, one changes to the classic narrow gauge mountain railway called the Mariazellerbahn. This is still a working train route, operating several times daily, every day of the year. The trains are very old and proceed slowly but they carry you through some gorgeous valley and mountain scenery. It is not a tourist train; it's a real train operated by Austrian National Railways.

And if you have time, why not make a stop in St. Pölten. Its maze of pedestrian streets and plazas in the old town, complemented by some striking modern architecture in the government quarter make for a pleasant stroll.

So sit back and breathe in the mountain air while you travel to Mariazell, listening to Josef Haydn's Emperor Quartet. This music by Haydn is a set of variations based on the Imperial Austrian Anthem that he had earlier composed to rally the peoples of the Austrian Empire and to honor the Habsburgs in their heroic battles against the forces of Napoleon. Peace!

St. Pölten, Altstadt - Austria HD Travel Channel

St. Pölten is the provincial capital of Lower Austria since 1997. It emerged from the Roman City Aelium Cetium. Remains are to be seen at City Hall. The architect Jacob Prandtauer lived in St. Pölten for a long time and gave the city its baroque character. With the foundation of the Benedictine monastery of St. Hippolytus by representatives of the Tegernsee Abbey, the city gained in importance. St. Hippolytus gave St. Pölten his name. The cathedral square was once the center of the Roman settlement.
The Institute of the English ladies was also designed by Jacob Prandtauer. Notable personalities have visited the school, e.g. the poetess and writer Enrica Handel-Mazzetti.
One of the tourist attraction is the Herrenplatz in the center of the city, surrounded by numerous Baroque buildings. Around the Marian column, flowers and seasonal fruits are offered daily. On Tuesday is the City Market where one can buy cheese, meat and bread. The surrounding cafes invite to stay for a while.
Worth seeing is the Mayor's office with its the magnificent baroque stuccoed ceiling from 1722. It is among the most beautiful ceilings in Austria and shows the Emperors of Holy Roman Empire, from Frederick III to Charles VI. The Mayor's office serves as representational room and as venue for small concerts.

please read more:

VIENNA on St. Valentine's Day (2019)

VIENNA on St. Valentine's Day

February trip to one of the most beautiful Central European cities - Vienna, the capital of Austria. Vienna offers so much to see! And what liked the most was that almost everything is situated in the very center of the city, and you can reach everything by walk.

We have started in Schonbrunn, the place of Princess Sisi - amazing and huge gardens with a spectacular view on Vienna from the top of the small hill.

Then, we took a U-bahn (Subway) to the city center, and visited Schwedenplatz, Stephansplatz with that awesome gothic church with the highest church tower I have ever seen. We continued by walk down to the National Opera House and Hotel Bristol, Hotel Sacher, Museumsquartier - Maria Theresia Platz.

From there, we walked to Hofburg, the seat of Austrian president. Just a few hundred meters from there, there is a National Theatre - Burgtheater, University of Vienna, and Rathaus building (the City hall). We were lucky to see the whole city-hall park covered in ice, and people were skating there despite the temperature was above 9 °C.

Vienna is an amazing city and I highly recommend this place for at least a 2-day trip. There is a lot more to do and see, so if you decide to go, consider at least 2-day stay. It is definitely worth!

2 – Reformed Great Church

3 – Water Tower Adventure Center

7 - Sinagoga Ortodoxa

★ 4K ???????? Vienna - Linz - ???????? Passau (D), Austria - Germany cab ride [03.2021]

Welcome to the first train driver's view video on this channel in Austria!

We begin our journey in the Freudenau Harbour of Vienna, where our train has just been manoeuvred out of the container terminal we will pass to the right. Our locomotive is a Br 193 Vectron (many of which we will pass along the way).

We can leave the harbour in both directions to get to our destination, today we're taking the route via Oberlaa and continuing onto the Westbahn line, the main east - west line in Austria, through to wels, where we will be heading north Towards the German border station of Passau. The line between Vienna and Linz was successively expanded into a 4 track railway between 1994 - 2014, including the Wienerwald and Lainzer tunnels, which pass underneath the city of Vienna with a length of over 22 Km. The new line allows high speed operation with cab signalling (ETCS Level 2, LZB) and the whole line retains the older PZB system.

On our trip today, we will travel almost entirely on the old line, which is especially enjoyable over the hills via Rekawinkel. The line generally features more curves and stations and is predominantly used for regional trains and freight. Having said that, the system is very flexible, with most switches allowing for track changes at 100 Km/h and signalling in both directions for all tracks. It's not uncommon to see 3 to 4 trains travelling in parallel, especially at night. It seems to me that Austria has put a lot of thought into their railways - and their signal operators are good at what they do.

Some speeds are included in the video, but most of the time we will be travelling at 100 Km/h, which is generally the top speed allowed for freight trains in Austria.

There are a few interesting facts I've included along the way, of bridges that were destroyed during World War II and so on. The scenery isn't as beautiful as it could be, unfortunately it was late winter, so there was no snow and things hadn't started to get green yet. Hopefully I can record this line in a more colourful season in the future. Austria does have a lot more to offer, which you will see in coming videos, some of them curving through the alps for hours on end.
