Friuli Venezia Giulia - Italy: What, How and Why to Visit it (4K)

If you are planning to visit Friuli Venezia Giulia, a region in North East of Italy, here you’ll find the best tips on things to do in this wonderful land, with a view on the most relevant points of interest to enjoy, so you can easily imagine and organize your trip: WHAT to see, HOW to plan your visit, and WHY to discover Friuli Venezia Giulia.

Friuli Venezia Giulia is a region whose territory, in just under 8 thousand square kilometers, traces the coordinates of a nerve center of European geography, which has always been a crossroads of destinies and people, capable of rewarding its tourists with the wealth of a territory that surprises from every angle.

In my tour we’ll discover Trieste, Miramare and Duino Castle, Grado, Aquileia, Palmanova, Gorizia, Cividale del Friuli, Udine, Montasio upland, Fusine and Predil Lakes, Venzone, Spilimberto, Valvasone, San Vito al Tagliamento and Sacile.

So, not only breathtaking views but also art pearls such as the elegant and discreet cities of Friuli Venezia Giulia that have traveled the world, listened to different languages, known distant cultures and religions. To understand this, just look at the Audace pier from Piazza dell'Unità d'Italia in Trieste, or walk simultaneously in Italian and Slovenian territory in the Transalpina square of Gorizia. Thus Trieste wore Habsburg clothes, Udine became the city of Tiepolo, Gorizia took the name of Austrian Nice, Pordenone oscillates between Romanesque, Baroque and Gothic influences. forgotten two UNESCO jewels such as Cividale del Friuli and Aquileia. Moreover, history lovers will be able to visit the FVG, discovering the itineraries on the traces of the Great War, whose centenary is remembered.

Moving along the coast, the sea of Friuli Venezia Giulia contains many proposals in one. It is the ideal tourist destination for all families, thanks to the certification of accommodation facilities and to a welcome program created specifically for the needs of children and their parents. At the same time, the FVG summer dances to the exciting rhythms of the glamor Lignano Sabbiadoro, relaxes in the silence and calm of the Grado lagoon, breathing in the maritime cadences of the fishermen of Marano Lagunare.

Experiencing the mountains of Friuli Venezia Giulia, on the other hand, is an authentic experience of immersion in an unspoiled and protected place, where you can practice all kinds of sports in summer and winter. How not to mention the splendid Friulian Dolomites, a Unesco World Heritage Site, and the Julian and Carnic Alps, between which valleys designed by greenery creep. Natural border of the regional territory, the alpine chains guard villages of rare beauty such as, for example, Sauris, Poffabro and Pesaris.

Moreover, the spearhead of Friuli Venezia Giulia has always been the food and wine tradition, because here each dish is made unique by the genuineness of local products.
Territory, cuisine and history mix to give a unique touch.

Valvasone village, Friuli Venezia Giulia - Italy: Get an Idea About It

If you are planning to visit Valvasone town, in Friuli Venezia Giulia - Italy, here you’ll find the best tips on things to do in the village, with a view on the most relevant points of interest to enjoy, so you can easily imagine and organize your trip: WHAT to see, HOW to plan your visit, and WHY to discover Valvasone.

The village of Valvasone keeps intact its medieval appearance consisting of lovely streets and ancient dwellings endowed with porches.

The imposing castle, dominating a square by the same name, houses late-gothic and Renaissance frescoes and a precious wooden theatre from the 18th century.

The Duomo of the Holy Body of Christ, which owes its title to the relic of the miracle of the Sacred Tablecloth preserved there, houses a monumental organ, the only example in Italy of fifteenth century Venetian organ art, embellished by the wonderful artistic frame of Pordenone and Pomponio Amalteo.

The Church of St Peter, Paul and Anthony the Abbot, once a Hospice sheltering pilgrims and travellers, preserves valuable fifteenth-century frescoes and a sixteenth-century portative organ. The cloister of the former Convent dei Serviti is also fascinating, built in the fifteenth century and now partially rebuilt on its ancient foundations.

Palmanova town, Friuli Venezia Giulia - Italy: Get an Idea About It

If you are planning to visit Palmanova town, in Italy, here you’ll find the best tips on things to do in the village, with a sightseeing map on the most relevant points of interest to enjoy, so you can easily imagine and organize your trip: WHAT to see, HOW to plan your visit, and WHY to discover Palmanova.

Built in 1593 by the Republic of Venice, Palmanova is a fortress-city preserved in exemplary conditions.
With its perfect nine-pointed star shape, Palmanova is at the same time a model Renaissance city and an example of military architecture.

Its fortified structure is organised around three circular lines of defence, with an urban fabric arranged along radial axes.

It was founded by the Serenissima Republic of Venice with the aim of preventing the expansionist ambitions of the Habsburgs and the Turks.
On 7 October 1593, the first stone of the Fortress was laid. Two defensive lines were built with ramparts and ravelins, and within these the urban layout of the city was created. A third fortified wall was added in the Napoleonic era. In 1960, Palmanova was proclaimed a National Monument.
Since 9 July 2017, Palmanova has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site, one of the “Venetian Works of Defence between the 16th and 17th centuries: Stato da Terra – western Stato da Mar” (Mainland Domain and western Domain of the Sea).

- Then, I’ll describe to you HOW to follow a daily-tour to better visit the city, with a clear map of Udine and tips for nearby attractions.
Finally, we’ll discover WHY to visit Ferrara, with his rich historic city center.

First of all, suggestions on FOOD and ACCOMMODATIONS:

ACCOMMODATIONS: Piazza Nova Guest House, C.so Porta Mare, 133Ferrara, +39 0532 757614, info@piazzanova.it

WHAT
Ferrara is situated on the great plain of Emilia Romagna (one of the biggest region of Italy), Ferrara stands a few kilometres south of the Po River, and about 50km from the sea.

The best times to visit are in spring and autumn. May, in particular, is a month of celebrations linked to the famous Palio of St George; in March and September there are prestigious exhibitions in the Palazzo Diamanti, a jewel of Ferrara's Renaissance; during the last week of August street musicians from around the world come together for the Ferrara Buskers Festival, filling the late summer evenings with music.

HOW
Most of the popular attractions in Ferrara are located in the the historic center, and at the heart of it there is Piazza Trento e Trieste, with the castle at one end and the cathedral forming one entire side.

To visit Ferrara, follow this route:

1. Castello Estense (Este Castle)
The Este Castle was, once, the home and palace of the powerful Este family.

2. Piazza Trento e Trieste and the Centro Storico

3. Cattedrale di San Giorgio (Cathedral of Saint George)
Its front moves from a Romanesque lower tier, built in the early 1100s, upward to a beautiful early Gothic loggia from the 1500s.

4. Palazzo dei Diamanti Art Galleries
The Palazzo dei Diamanti is hard to miss, with its entire exterior covered in more than 8,500 faceted marble blocks.

5. Via delle Volte
One of the most appealing things about Ferrara is the grace with which it moves between the medieval and Renaissance eras. To feel back in the Middle Ages, go in Via delle Volte.

6. Mura di Ferrara (City Walls)
End your trip visiting the walls that surround the historic center.

For you meal I suggest to go in Take Eat Easy and taste the “Pasticcio ferrarese di maccheroni”, which is pastry filled with ragout and mushrooms.

In our tour I’ll bring you in Via delle Volte, Piazza Trento Trieste where you can admire the Cathedral and the Castle, Piazza del Municipio, Palazzo dei diamanti. Then, I’ll give you some food suggestions, to end back visiting the Walls of Ferrara.

WHY
Ferrara is a splendid city of art, to be enjoyed by walking its streets, its character - this magnificent Renaissance capital - revealed on every corner. Through its glorious past, you can understand the roots of its present. The Este family governed here for three centuries and gave the city the appearance it has today: a uniquely planned city, harmoniously fusing Mediaeval and Renaissance, Europe's first modern city. It is precisely these characteristics that secured its UNESCO World Heritage status. It's a peaceful city to wander on foot or by bike, every step re-living the magical atmospheres of the past.

Sacile town, Friuli Venezia Giulia - Italy: Get an Idea About It

If you are planning to visit Sacile town, in Friuli Venezia Giulia - Italy, here you’ll find the best tips on things to do in the village, with a view on the most relevant points of interest to enjoy, so you can easily imagine and organize your trip: WHAT to see, HOW to plan your visit, and WHY to discover Sacile.

The town of Sacile, known as the Garden of the Serenissima because of its Venice-like atmosphere, is renowned for the harmony of its architecture, with a series of fine Venetian-style palaces lining the river bank and reflecting in the water.

Worth visiting are the cathedral of San Nicolò (Saint Nicholas), named after the patron saint of the town and sailors on the river, and the Church of the Madonna della Pietà and Piazza del Popolo, flanked by beautiful porticoed buildings.

Sacile, with its numerous sixteenth century palaces, including the splendid Loggia Comunale and, above all, the Palazzo Ragazzoni Flangini Billia, is the perfect Renaissance town.

Many of the buildings have ornamental Renaissance or Baroque-style motifs, making Sacile, with its network of little bridges and alleyways leading to beautiful hidden corners, a delightful place just to stroll around in.

Spilimbergo village, Friuli Venezia Giulia - Italy: Get an Idea About It (4K)

If you are planning to visit Spilimbergo town, in Friuli Venezia Giulia - Italy, here you’ll find the best tips on things to do in the village, with a view on the most relevant points of interest to enjoy, so you can easily imagine and organize your trip: WHAT to see, HOW to plan your visit, and WHY to discover Spilimbergo.

(Errata corrige: in the minute 0:15 I wrote Spilamberto instead of Spilimbergo, which is the village described in the video.)

Located on the banks of the Tagliamento river, Spilimbergo is one of the most beautiful and interesting art cities in Friuli Venezia Giulia.
It is a village of ancient origins, which grew primarily during the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. The centre, retaining its original medieval structure, has undergone continuous restoration work to enhance the works of artists who have succeeded each other over the centuries, including Giovanni Antonio de’ Sacchis, also known as il Pordenone, and Giovanni Antonio Pilacorte. The splendour of the past comes to life every year in August with the Historical Re-enactment of the Macia, named after an ancient unit of measurement used for fabrics also reproduced on a palazzo in Piazza del Duomo.

Peculiarities of Spilimbergo
Known throughout the world for its decorative mosaics, it is home to the prestigious Mosaic School of Friuli, an institution unique in the world founded in 1922. Today it teaches the use of Roman, Byzantine and modern mosaic techniques and it researches and experiments aesthetic and functional solutions applied to contemporary times.

Benvenuti a TRIESTE ♥ Welcome to ITALY ♥ Visit FRIULI VENEZIA GIULIA ♥

Its climate, with the dry Bora wind that blows over the karst plateau and towards the gulf; its history, shaped by Habsburg domination; and its geographic position, almost part of the Balkans; render the fascinating city of Trieste one of the most particular art cities in Italy, and of a notably mitteleurope character. Located in Italy’s extreme northeast (in Friuli Venezia Giulia), Trieste sat on what was a contested border for centuries; diverse populations intersected, and made their marks in the elegant and historic masterpieces, from the artistic to the architectonic, throughout the city.
