Odysee:

San Salvador de Jujuy is a city in northwestern Argentina, head of the Doctor Manuel Belgrano department and the capital and most populous city of the province of Jujuy. Popularly called Tacita de Plata, it is located in a fertile valley, at the confluence of the Grande and Xibi Xibi rivers, surrounded by mountains that, to the west, in winter, are usually covered with snow.
It has a population of 265,249 inhabitants (Indec, 2010) which, together with those of its metropolitan area, amount to 312,554 inhabitants, according to INDEC data, the population of the Department of Belgrano is 308,821 inhabitants. It is 1,515 km from Buenos Aires and 533 km from the Pacific coast.
Both the city and the province owe their name to the Jujuí or Jujuíes, an indigenous tribe that lived in a place between the Grande and Xibi Xibi rivers. These would have been conquered by the Incas around 1420 and, after the fall of the Inca Empire, they put up tenacious resistance to the arrival of the Spanish in the area.
Although it had other foundations, on Monday, April 19, 1593 (the day after Easter), two blocks north of the Xibi Xibi River (where Plaza Belgrano is currently located), Francisco Argañaraz, commanding forty soldiers, founded the city of San Salvador de Velazco in the Jujuy Valley.
After Argentina's independence in 1810, on May 19, 1812, the new head of the Army of the North, the lawyer and general Manuel Belgrano, arrived in Jujuy. Faced with the imminent Spanish attack, at dawn on August 23, 1812, all the citizens of Jujuy left the town for San Miguel de Tucumán, a fact that later became known as the Jujuy Exodus.
In 1834, after the brief but bloody fratricidal war between Jujeños and Salta, San Salvador became the capital of the nascent province of Jujuy.
