*???????????????????????????????? ????????????????*
Tarquinii was one of the most ancient and important Etruscan cities.
Lucius Tarquinius Priscus and Lucius Tarquinius Superbus, became kings of ancient Rome. Numerous Roman religious rites and ceremonies derived from Tarchuna.

In 509 BC, after the overthrow of the Roman monarchy, the family of Tarquinius Superbus went into exile in Caere. He sought to regain the throne by force of arms. He convinced the cities of Tarchuna and Veii to support him and led their armies against Rome in the Battle of Silva Arsia. The Roman army was victorious however.

At the end of the 5th century and during the first half of the 4th century BC a brief revival took place, under the ascendancy of the Spurinna family, prominent up to the 1st century AD.
In this period colossal walls were built around the city in response to threats from the Celts and Rome. Tarchuna, not affected by Celtic invasions, finally colonised all its previously held territories in about 385 BC. This new flourishing state allowed a rapid recovery of all activities.

However, during the 4th century BC when Tarchuna's expansion was at its peak, a bitter struggle with Rome took place. In 358 BC, the citizens of Tarchuna captured and put to death 307 Roman soldiers; the resulting war ended in 351 BC with roman victory.

*???????????????????? ????????????????*
When Tarchuna came under Roman domination is uncertain; in 181 BC its port, Graviscae (modern Porto Clementino) became a Roman colonia that exported wine and had coral fisheries. Little is known about Tarquinii in Roman times.

*????????????????-???????????????????? ????????????*
The ancient city had shrunk to a small fortified settlement during the early Middle Ages while the more strategically placed Corneto (possibly the Corito mentioned in Roman sources) grew progressively to become the major city. The last historic references to Tarquinii are from around 1250, and the last remains were destroyed in 1305.
The name of Corneto was changed to Tarquinia in 1922.

Places to see in ( Caserta - Italy ) Reggia di Caserta

Places to see in ( Caserta - Italy ) Reggia di Caserta

The Royal Palace of Caserta is a former royal residence in Caserta, southern Italy, constructed for the Bourbon kings of Naples. It is one of the largest palaces erected in Europe during the 18th century. In 1997, the palace was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site; its nomination described it as the swan song of the spectacular art of the Baroque, from which it adopted all the features needed to create the illusions of multidirectional space. In terms of volume, the Royal Palace of Caserta is the largest royal residence in the world with over 2 million m³ and covering an area of about 235,000 m².

The construction of the palace was begun in 1752 for Charles VII of Naples, who worked closely with his architect, Luigi Vanvitelli. When Charles saw Vanvitelli's grandly scaled model for Caserta, it filled him with emotion fit to tear his heart from his breast. In the end, he never slept a night at the Reggia, as he abdicated in 1759 to become King of Spain, and the project was carried to only partial completion for his third son and successor, Ferdinand IV of Naples.

The political and social model for Vanvitelli's palace was Versailles, which, though strikingly different in its variety and disposition, solves similar problems of assembling and providing for king, court and government in a massive building with the social structure of a small city, confronting a baroque view of a highly subordinated nature, la nature forcée. The population of Caserta Vecchia was moved 10 kilometers to provide a work force closer to the palace. A silk manufactory at San Leucio resort was disguised as a pavilion in the immense parkland.

Another of the king's primary objects was to have a magnificent new royal court and administrative center for the kingdom in a location protected from sea attack, and distant from the revolt-prone and congested city of Naples. To provide the king with suitable protection, troop barracks were housed within the palace.
The Royal Palace of Madrid, where Charles had grown up, which had been devised by Filippo Juvarra for Charles' father, Philip V of Spain, and Charlottenburg Palace provided models. A spacious octagonal vestibule seems to have been inspired by Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute in Venice, while the palatine chapel is most often compared to the Royal Chapel at Versailles. Vanvitelli died in 1773: the construction was continued by his son Carlo and then by other architects; but the elder Vanvitelli's original project, which included a vast pair of frontal wings similar to Bernini's wings at St. Peter's, was never finished.

The palace has 5 floors, 1,200 rooms, including two dozen state apartments, a large library, and a theatre modelled after the Teatro San Carlo of Naples. A monumental avenue that would run 20 kilometers between the palace and Naples was planned but never realized. The garden, a typical example of the baroque extension of formal vistas, stretches for 120 ha, partly on hilly terrain. It is also inspired by the park of Versailles. The park starts from the back façade of the palace, flanking a long alley with artificial fountains and cascades. There is a botanical garden, called The English Garden, in the upper part designed in the 1780s by Carlo Vanvitelli and the German-born botanist, nurseryman, plantsman-designer, John Graefer, trained in London and recommended to Sir William Hamilton by Sir Joseph Banks. It is an early Continental example of an English garden in the svelte naturalistic taste of Capability Brown.

The fountains and cascades, each filling a vasca (basin), with architecture and hydraulics by Luigi Vanvitelli at intervals along a wide straight canal that runs to the horizon, rivalled those at Peterhof outside St. Petersburg. These include:

The Fountain of Diana and Actaeon (sculptures by Paolo Persico, Angelo Maria Brunelli, and Tommaso Solari);
The Fountain of Venus and Adonis (1770–80);
The Fountain of the Dolphins (1773–80);
The Fountain of Aeolus;
The Fountain of Ceres.

Places to see in ( Grosseto - Italy ) Area archeologica di Roselle

Places to see in ( Grosseto - Italy ) Area archeologica di Roselle

The archaeological area of Roselle includes the remains of the ancient Etruscan city of Roselle ( Rusellae for the Romans ). It is located 8 kilometers north of the city of Grosseto . In 2016, the archaeological area recorded 18 716 visitors. Roselle was located 10 km from Grosseto , at the crossing point between the Ombrone valley and the Grosseto Maremma , on the shore of the ancient Lake Prile , and was an ancient lucumonie of central Etruria, a member of Etruscan Dodecapoli .

It preserves an overlap of buildings and walls belonging to the Villanovan , Etruscan and then Roman civilizations . The discovery of red-figure Attic vases testifies to the commercial contacts of the city with Greece and the Greek colonies of southern Italy. Founded in the seventh century BC , it was mentioned by Dionysius of Halicarnassus among the cities that brought aid to the Latins in the war against Tarquinio Prisco . It developed to the detriment of neighboring lucumonies in particular Vetulonia .

In 294 BC it was conquered by the Romans . It became the first Roman municipality and later, with Augustus colony . The Forum and the basilica date back to this period, a system for collecting rainwater and a thermal building. Traces of an amphitheater and villas are also preserved. Starting from the sixth century it fell like all the Maremma , scourged by malaria . The city was abandoned until the reclamation of the area by Pietro Leopoldo at the end of the eighteenth century. In the fifties the remains of the ancient buildings were brought to light through a long campaign of excavations carried out by the archaeologist Aldo Mazzolai .

The walls were built by the Etruscans between the seventh and sixth centuries BC The perimeter of the wall circuit is over 3 km, with an average height of about 7 m. The first traces of frequentation of this area of the settlement are with some layers containing findings of Villanovan age and of late VII - beginning VI century BC

On the southern side of the forum, near the domus of the mosaics, are the archaeological remains of the ancient Roman temple of the flamines Augustales , which was built during the Imperial period ( 1st century AD ). The pagan place of worship was transformed in the early Middle Ages into a place of Christian worship, dedicated to San Silvestro , whose existence is ascertained starting from 765

On the slopes of the northern hill a Roman thermal complex has been found , characterized by walls that in elevation have the technique of ' opus reticulatum with plinth and brick locks, while in the foundation there is the opus caementicium . The structure is divided into two sectors, with an intermediate area of unclear angles.

The necropolis that develops around the church is organized by terraces : the burials have a distribution dictated by constant distances and have a good construction technique. Built in the high medieval era outside the walls, its archaeological remains are preserved in the area of Poggio Mosconcino , in La Canonica , between the ancient civitas and the Tino di Moscona . Attached to the church there are also the remains of the rectory , which served as a bishop's residence until 1138 , the year of the transfer of the Rosellana diocese to Grosseto .

( Grosseto - Italy ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Grosseto . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Grosseto - Italy

Searching for the BEST Pizza in Napoli ????????

???? SUBSCRIBE for more adventures:

Ciao my friends from Napoli, the birthplace of the Pizza ???????? Naples isn't just famous for its picturesque vistas and rich history; it's the birthplace of the world's most beloved food - the pizza. Discover together with me the story behind Naples' legendary status in the pizza world, learn about the age-old traditions, and witness the passion that goes into every pie.
The story about the Margherita Legend goes back to 1889, to honor the visit of Queen Margherita of Savoy to Naples, a local pizzaiolo named Raffaele Esposito created a pizza that incorporated the colors of the Italian flag: red (tomatoes), white (mozzarella), and green (basil). He named it 'Pizza Margherita'. Whether or not this story is 100% factual is debated, but it’s a beloved origin tale for one of the world's favorite pizza varieties.
In this vlog, I put the two legendary pizzerias to the test: Sorbillo and L'Antica Pizzeria da Michele. Who reigns supreme in the city where pizza was born? Grab a slice, sit back, and let's embark on this cheesy adventure together!
