Top 10 Coolest Places to Visit in Mexico (You Don't Want to Miss This!)

In today’s video I will be sharing with you the top 10 coolest places to visit in Mexico to build your Mexico Vacation Guide 2021. I spent the past 2 months traveling around the incredible country of Mexico, visiting amazing beaches, charming cities, and some incredible off the beaten path destinations. I found it incredibly difficult to narrow down a Mexico Top 10 list.

To start off the top 10 coolest places to visit in Mexico, I take you to the beautiful colonial town of San Miguel de Allende. San Miguel is full of beautiful cobblestone streets, colorful buildings, and of course the famous Parroquia church! This church is absolutely stunning and reminded me a lot of La Sagrada Familia in Barcelona!

Next up on the list for the top 10 coolest places to visit in Mexico is taking us to Puerto Escondido in the state of Oaxaca, Mexico. Puerto Escondido is a popular destination to experience an epic surf scene, swim at some incredible beaches, and indulge in delicious Oaxacan food. There are 7 beaches spread throughout Puerto Escondido, with the biggest beach, Playa Zicatela, hosting some of the biggest surf competitions in the entire world.

After Puerto Escondido, the next place on your Mexico vacation guide for 2021 should be to visit the charming city of San Cristobal de las Casas. San Cristobal is famous for its colorful streets, unique art scene, delicious coffee, and Mayan influenced markets. Walking through San Cristobal is like walking around a colonial paradise.

Next up on the 10 best things to do in Mexico is to experience a Lucha Libre show. Lucha Libre is essentially Mexican wrestling, but is also a traditional form of entertainment. I saw a Lucha Libre match in Guadalajara but there are tons of places all around Mexico to experience the magic that is Lucha Libre.

Number 6 on my list of the 10 best places to visit in Mexico is taking us to the Roberto Barrios Waterfalls. The Roberto Barrios waterfalls are located in the state of Chiapas, Mexico and completely took me by surprise. There are multiple waterfalls with tons of beautiful pools to swim in, surrounded by endless tall green trees making you feel like you are swimming in the middle of a jungle.

Any list of the best places to visit in Mexico must include the incredible Palenque Ruins. The Palenque Ruins are also located in Chiapas, Mexico and are some of the most important Mayan ruins in the entire world. However, unlike Chichen Itza in Yucatan Mexico and Tikal in Guatemala, you can visit these ancient Mayan ruins without all of the crowds.

Next on the list for the coolest places to visit in Mexico is taking us to the small coastal towns of San Pancho (San Francisco) and Lo de Marcos, located on the Pacific Coast in the state of Nayarit, Mexico. These towns are completely off the tourist track and are host to unspoiled white sand beaches and quaint towns to spend a few days relaxing in paradise.

Any Top 10 things to do in Mexico list must include a visit to Mexico City. There is so much to do in Mexico City but some of my favorite places are Zocalo square, the Palacio de Bellas Artes, Bosque de Chapultepec (Mexico City Central Park), Mariachi Plaza, Roma Norte, and the Polanco neighborhood.

Next up on your Mexico Travel Guide 2021 is visiting my favorite beach town in Mexico, Sayulita. Sayulita is located about 1 hour north of Puerto Vallarta in the state of Nayarit. Sayulita is a pueblo magico (magical town) and is home to colorful cobblestone roads and tons of beaches perfect for surfing or relaxing.

Last up on our list for the top 10 coolest places to visit in Mexico is to visit the city of Guanajuato. Guanajuato is the most beautiful place in Mexico and is full of narrow alleyways, colorful buildings, and beautiful churches. Guanajuato reminded me a lot of visiting a charming European city. Visiting Guanajuato is an absolute must in Mexico.

I hope you enjoyed the video and now know where to go in Mexico for your next trip!

Our day guide, John, immediately brought the knowledge and tasty treats as we explored Guanajuato. Being in the same state as the more well known San Miguel de Allende, visitors to Guanajuato benefit from smaller tourist crowds, lower prices, and a much larger city to explore! A UNESCO World Heritage city dating back to 1559, Guanajuato is filled with colonial buildings built alongside and on TOP of an ancient river. The bridges to cross the river eventually became a second floor to the city with buildings on tip, and later full-fledged tunnels that criss-cross and enable people and cars to move around town. We traveled UP and DOWN all over Guanajuato as we sampled local dishes like Acelga Tamales (made with swiss chard!) to keep our energy.

After a pit stop back at the RV to change (we found camping INSIDE Guanajuato to make walking into the city center much easier!), it was time to switch gears and guides. Tim Leffel, founder of GTO Walking Tours, met up with us in front of the famous Teatro Juarez for an evening of tacos, tequila, and fun. We roamed local haunts, tried Pulque, one of the oldest beverages anywhere, and had our fair share of tacos, tequila and sweets!

Built into steep hills, large sections of Guanajuato are only accessible by foot. Remember to take breaks, enjoy a snack or three, and consider a guide to help you navigate!

Our thanks again to John and Tim from gtowalkingtours.com for providing their time, knowledge and sharing a lot of laughs. If that wasn't enough, be sure to stick around for some amazing fire dancing by John at the end of our video!

THE BEST HIDDEN GEM IN MEXICO! Exploring the city of Guanajuato, visiting ALL of our favorite spots!

Welcome to Guanajuato! One hour from San Miguel de Allende (where we live) and it’s always a treat to visit! In this video we show you a day trip to Guanajuato and all of the funs things we love to do every time we visit!

Places visited in the video:

- Costal: @costalculturacafetera
- Mestizo: @chefmestizo
- Casa del Rector: @casadelrector

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Guanajuato is known to be a student town. The vibe definitely seems much younger than San Miguel. It’s more grungy and rugged with lots of cantinas and student bars. There isn’t a color scheme like there is in San Miguel so the City is much more colorful and vibrant. The streets are also cobblestone and very windy with makes for amazing photography

Guanajuato holds events such as the the Guanajuato International Film Festival and the Cervantino Festival that attracts thousands of visitors from throughout Mexico and around the world!

It was a mining town known for its silver mining and the birthplace of famed muralist Diego Rivera!

Flooding: The first bar we went to is called La Inundación which means the flood. It was one of the first places I visited when I came to Guanajuato. In 1905 there was a major flood that killed over 1000 people. All over town there are signs that indicate how high the water levels were.

The tunnel system of Guanajuato were built to prevent flooding. It’s like a whole different City down there! With street signs and bus stops and footpaths. I blew me away when I first visited. And I still love driving through them every time we visit.

We’re not going to go but it’s also known for its museum of mummies , even Tim Burton went. I’m to scared to go.. ????

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

OVERALL

We highly recommend visiting Guanajuato! There streets are never ending with amazing colours and beauty around every corner! Be ready to have a colour saturation overload! We have SO much more to share with you all about central Mexico and the surrounding cities! As well as all of our upcoming travel around the world starting from New Zealand, Australia and then Asia!!

See you soon!!!

NORTHERN Mexico FINAL Impressions | SAN MIGUEL de ALLENDE? I Don't Think So! | Mexico Travel 2021

NORTHERN MEXICO - When it comes to Mexico Travel, it's common for many to visit popular locations such as Guanajuato, San Miguel de Allende, Puerto Vallarta, Oaxaca, and Cancun. These destinations are also popular with immigrants moving to Mexico or expats in Mexico and are perfectly valid choices!

Central and Southern Mexico has a rich history, colonial architecture, amazing Mexican food (comida mexicana), and much more to offer. However, there's more to Mexico than San Miguel de Allende. This year, I had the opportunity to visit northern Mexico, specifically the states of Durango, Coahuila, Sinaloa and Chihuahua, including the cities of Durango, Torreón, Culiacán and more, visiting amazing locations such as Puente de Ojuela and Mexiquillo. These states often come with the classic questions, Is Mexico safe? or, Is Mexico dangerous?, or people assume northern Mexico is just one big desert with no history or culture.

This video is my northern Mexico FINAL impressions, having done a first impressions video many months ago. I'll run through 7 points about northern Mexico which are worth knowing if you are thinking of TRAVELLING in northern Mexico (nothing to do with being an expat). Gorditas de maiz! Lonches adobada! Diverse history! Check out the timestamps below -
