Wondering what to do in Antigua, Guatemala? In this video, I share some fun day trips from Antigua, Guatemala. All of the Antigua day trips were organized by who I highly recommend if you are looking for an ethical tourism experience.
They took me to the Antigua chocolate factory, to a place to buy local wine, the jade factory, and the chicken bus factory in Antigua. This tour takes you to San Juan del Obispo, San Pedro las Huertas, Ciudad Vieja, and San Miguel Dueñas. Other day trips we did were to Mayan ruins close to Antigua, Iximche, and to see the Maximon temple (San Simón).

About San Miguel: With 125 years of coffee farming experience, the Falla family is one of the oldest coffee farming families in Antigua. The story of San Miguel- Single Origin Coffees begins more than 50 years ago when Arturo Falla Cofiño embarked on a new adventure when he purchased the farm El Tempixque. El Tempixque is located just a short drive from Antigua, a world heritage site, in the village of San Miguel Dueñas. The farm is nestled amongst three majestic and active volcanoes, Agua, Fuego and Acatenango. The coffees from San Miguel are as unique as the location itself.

Review of the Antigua Guatemala & Surrounding Villas (La Antigua Guatemala) excursion. Tour includes a visit to the Colonial City of Antigua (UNESCO World Heritage Site) and 3 villages just outside the city: San Antonio Aguas Calientes, San Miguel Duenas and Ciudad Vieja. Antigua is a small city surrounded by volcanoes in southern Guatemala. It’s renowned for its Spanish colonial buildings, many of them restored following a 1773 earthquake that ended Antigua’s 200-year reign as Guatemala’s colonial capital. The Central Park (Parque Central) is the heart of the city, with the reconstructed fountain is acting as a popular gathering spot. To the north of the Central Park is the Arco de Santa Catalina, one of the most recognisable architectural landmarks of the city; Antigua Guatemala, Guatemala 2019. As a family of WorldSchoolers, we are always seeking out educational experiences when we travel!
Day 9 in Guatemala did not disappoint. We went for breakfast at Fernando’s Kaffee and got to meet Fernando himself. He showed us around his chocolate making and coffee roasting facilities, and let us try some of his liquid gold!
We then headed to San Miguel Duenas, a town located about 20 minutes from the heart of Antigua. We visited a 3 acre Macadamia Nut Farm known as Valhalla Macadamia Farm. We learned so much on our tour with Miss Angela and had an incredible lunch at their farm-to-table restaurant.
When we got back into town that evening, we headed to El Bosque because it was right across the street from our AirBnB and quite a few people had suggested that we check it out! The kids love getting some time and space to play, and we loved getting to connect there with some other travelers.
This day was the perfect example of what WorldSchooling is all about: new cultures and experiences, serendipitous opportunities, and following the things that are on our hearts!
