TOP 12 BATANGAS TOURIST SPOTS TO VISIT (Philippines) • ENGLISH • The Poor Traveler

My home province, Batangas is a blessed land. It cradles a wide array of diverse landscapes — pristine beaches, a scenic lake, spectacular diving sites, breathtaking rivers, fertile farm lands, enchanting mountains, and a volcano. These places have also nurtured communities from the pre-Spanish settlements to the rise of the province’s many urban centers in its long history.

The best part: It is close to Manila, just two to three hours away. Here are 12 of the most popular destinations in Batangas.

Now may not be a good time to travel, but it's always a great time to plan a trip, learn about destinations, or simply be inspired!

TOP 8 SURFING DESTINATIONS IN THE PHILIPPINES

In the movie, Colonel Kilgore had his men surf at what is now known as Charlie’s Point, while locals watched from a distance. When the crew finished filming, the surfboards they left behind were used by the local children who taught themselves to surf with it. Thus was born the sport of surfing in the Philippines.
According to some locals, Daet surfing in Bagasbas Beach is among the earliest ever recorded in Philippine history. Other spots you can check out nearby are the San Jose beach break and Mercedes, an outer reef reachable by boat

How to Travel to Coron, Palawan from San Jose, Mindoro, Philippines.

How to take a ferry from Mindoro to Palawan.

I'm heading to Palawan. We’ve come along way baby……. Having left Manila on 1st October I’ve travelled to Tagaytay, Batangas where I took a ferry to North Mindoro, spent some time in Puerto Galera, and now travelled through Mindoro to catch another ferry to Coron on Palawan.

Not a lot of people travel to Palawan via this route. But I’m not a lot of people. I like to do things differently. I’m excited. I’ve heard good things about Palawan. I’ve visited a number of islands in the Philippines but
People say Palawan is the best island in the Philippines, which I’ve saved until last. Which is quite apt as Palawan is also referred to as the last frontier.

I overnighted in San Jose, having taken 2 vans from Calapan, having overnighted there. I spent the afternoon in Calapan working in my hotel room. Finding a hotel with decent internet connection is a major priority when deciding where to stay now. Almost more important than comfort, otherwise I’m unable to upload my YouTube videos.

Destiny’s hotel is pretty kinky. I imagine it’s the sort of place rented out by the hour in other towns. The majority of rooms were windowless. The only room that did have a window had a dodgy a/c leaking over the bed, but I persuaded them to let me stay in it anyway and just use a standing fan. I’m not fond of noisy a/c’s anyway.

Calapan wasn’t worth stopping off at. There was nothing there. It’s strange how these towns or cities consist of just establishments built on the main highway.

In Calapan I checked the bus times of the Ceres Bus that goes directly to San Jose. The bus travelled along the road where I was staying and was meant to pass by around 9am and then another at midday. What I should’ve done was go directly to the port at Calapan 2km away where the Ceres Bus leaves from at a designated time. Bit of a schoolboy error.

So I caught the 9am van to Bulalacao instead which was packed and sat right at the back. Just short of Bulalacao a group of schoolkids boarded having attended a mental health seminar. We spent half-hour chatting which helped pass time on my lengthy van journey. It's great how you can easily engage with friendly filipinos in the Philippines.

On arriving in Bulalacao I had 10 minutes to grab a quick bite to eat then jumped on the 2pm van to San Jose, which took just over an hour.

In San Jose I met a Belgian guy with his French girlfriend who left Calapan three hours after me, paid the same price, but had a more comfortable journey and arrived in San Jose not long after me. I stayed at the Red Doors hotel in San Jose where check-in took so long having booked online. It was as if their online booking system booking wasn’t in tune with the front desk. The girls who manned it were quite cute thou and one of them called me a sexy man for my age. Ha!
