De viaje por Guatemala se encuentra este bello lugar histórico, El Trapíche, Museo Regional de San Jerónimo.
El Museo Regional del Trapiche se encuentra ubicado en el primer ingenio azucarero de Centroamérica. Este cuenta con áreas verdes y salas con muestras de arte regional y arqueología maya. Está ubicado en el municipio de San Jerónimo en Baja Verapaz.
Su principal atracción es que en él se puede conocer el proceso por el que pasa la caña de azúcar para obtener el producto final.
Piezas resguardadas en el Museo Regional del Trapiche
En el museo se puede apreciar la rueda Pelton de siete metros de diámetro y de aproximadamente una tonelada de peso. De hecho, esta forma parte de la maquinaria de origen inglés.
También destaca una pieza arqueológica que da la evidencia del inicio de la escritura maya.
Salas que conforman el museo
El edificio fue inaugurado el 27 de julio de 1999. Pero el edificio en el cual se encuentra ubicado fue el Primer Ingenio de Azúcar Morena en Centroamérica. De hecho, la infraestructura data de los años 1560.
El museo cuenta con tres salones que guardan vestigios importantes de la época colonial, en los cuales se encuentran diversas máquinas con las que elaboraban el azúcar y el licor.
Se puede apreciar la sala del Purgatorio, llamada así por las altas temperaturas que se mantenían en su interior mientras el jugo de caña era purificado y se cristalizaba.

Baja Verapaz es uno de los veintidós departamentos que conforman Guatemala, situado en la región norte de Guatemala. Limita al norte con el departamento de Alta Verapaz; al sur con el departamento de Guatemala; al este con el departamento de El Progreso; y al oeste con el departamento de Quiché. Esta prácticamente al centro de Guatemala Cuenta con 8 municipios que son:
Cubulco
Santa Cruz el Chol
Granados
Purulhá
Rabinal
Salamá
San Miguel Chicaj
San Jerónimo
Vías de comunicación
Este departamento se comunica con la capital por 2 vías; la primera, por medio de la ruta nacional 5, la cual partiendo de la ciudad de Guatemala atraviesa los municipios de San Pedro y San Juan Sacatepéquez, ambos del departamento de Guatemala, seguidamente cruza los municipios de Granados y El Chol, ascendiendo hasta la cumbre del mismo nombre para bajar directamente a Rabinal, esta ruta es de terracería; de aquí la ruta es asfaltada y sigue hacia San Miguel Chicaj y llega a Salamá. Esta ruta cubre una distancia aproximada de 150 km; la otra vía con una distancia aproximada de 167 km completamente asfaltada es la Carretera al Atlántico CA-9 o ruta al atlántico, desprendiéndose en el Rancho (El Progreso) el ramal hacia las Verapaces, pero a la altura de la cumbre de Santa Elena se encuentra el cruce hacia Salamá Baja Verapaz, pasando antes por San Jerónimo.
Geología
Este término se refiere al estudio y la investigación de los orígenes de los suelos de Guatemala, para poder determinar el período o era en que se inició su formación, la composición de cada uno de los mismos y cómo se encuentran distribuidos en cada uno de los 22 departamentos que componen el país; en cuáles existen volcanes y si las fallas sísmicas atraviesan o pasan por cada uno de estos.
Tipos de suelo que sobresalen en el departamento de Baja Verapaz:
Ksd: Cretácico. Carbonatos Neocaomiano-Campanianos, incluye Formaciones Cobán, Ixcoy, Campur, Sierra Madre y Grupo Yoja.
JKfs: Jurásico-Cretácico. Formación Todos Santos, Jurásico Superior-Neocomiano (copas rojas). Incluye Formación San Ricardo.
Pc: Pérmico. Formación Chochal (carbonatos)
CPsr: Pérmico. Grupo Santa Rosa (lutitas, areniscas, conglomerados y filitas). Incluye Formaciones de Santa Tosa, Sacapulas, Tactic y Macal.
Qp: Cuaternario. Rellenos y cubiertas gruesas de cenizas pómez de origen diverso.
Tv : Terciario. Rocas volcánicas sin dividir. Predominantemente Mio-Piloceno. Incluye tobas, coladas de lava, material lahárico y sedimentos volcánicos.
I: Rocas Plutónicas sin Dividir. Incluye granitos de dioritas de edad pre-pérmico. Cretácico y Terciario.
TT: Rocas Ultrabásicas de Edad Desconocida. Predominantemente serpentinitas. En parte pre-Maestrichtiano.
Pzm: Paleozoico. Rocas metamórficas sin dividir. Filitos, esquistos cloríficos y granitos y dioritas de edad Pre-Pérmico, Cretácico y Terciario.
Capacidad productiva de la tierra
Para evidenciar con que capacidad productiva de terreno se cuenta en este departamento, en Guatemala de acuerdo con el Departamento de Agricultura de los Estados Unidos, existen 8 clases de clasificación de capacidad productiva de la tierra, en función de los efectos combinados del clima y las características permanentes del suelo. De estas 8 clases agrológicas la I, II, III Y IV son adecuadas para cultivos agrícolas con prácticas culturales específicas de uso y manejo; las clases V, VI, y VII pueden dedicarse a cultivos perennes, específicamente bosques naturales o plantados; en tanto que la clase VIII se considera apta solo para parques nacionales, recreación y para la protección del suelo y la vida silvestre. map of baja verapaz , #guatemala

Tikal est une ancienne capitale d’un état conquérant qui fut l'un des royaumes les plus puissants des anciens Mayas.
Forte de la transcription d’une longue liste de rois, dont pour la plupart les tombes ont été découvertes, ainsi que leurs sculptures monumentales, leurs temples et leurs palais, Tikal est une des cités mayas les plus connues.
Le site nous transporte dans le riche passé Maya ; et la Gran Plaza, la Grande Pyramide du Monde Perdu, ou la place des 7 temples sont l’occasion d’un voyage dans le temps.
Rejoindre Livingston sera l’occasion d’un voyage en bateau sur le Rio Dulce. La faune y est impressionnante et on y croise par exemple de grands pélicans, aigrettes blanches et grises, perroquets Aras, aigles, tortues ou encore des iguanes.
Livingston rayonne par la diversité de sa population. Mayas, Indiens, Latinos et Garifunas se partagent les rues. Différentes ambiances se côtoient : des ruelles paisibles et secrètes, on peut rejoindre l’artère centrale plus dynamique et vivante.
Le lac Atitlan, d’origine volcanique, offre un splendide paysage. Les villages environnants sont encore imprégnés de la culture traditionnelle.
Le village éponyme est d’ailleurs peuplé essentiellement d’indiens. San Pedro et San Juan, deux hameaux avoisinant le lac, sont extrêmement appréciés des voyageurs pour leur ambiance festive et paisible à la fois.
Antigua, connue pour son architecture de style baroque et de Renaissance, est une ancienne cité coloniale, encerclée par les volcans d’Agua, de Fuego et d'Acatenango.
La Semaine Sainte est particulièrement impressionnante dans cette ville où les processions et tapis de fleurs habitent les rues.

Initially a school built in the first half of the 18th century by the Catholic order of the Mercedarians, San Jeronimo is nothing more than a large ruin – but a spectacular one at that. With its well-kept gardens woven between the huge blocks of fallen masonry and crumbling walls, it seems to be popular with local couples and is regularly used as a site for classical music concerts. You can still climb several stairways, which allow a good view from the top towards the central courtyard and its water fountain, with the majestic Agua Volcano in the background. Video Review of Posada de San Jeronimo Hotel in Antigua Guatemala. This accommodation is more a budget hotel than a hostel, with just one dorm (with 7 beds) and plenty of single and double rooms. It does not cater specifically to backpackers so the vibe might not be nice (also staff does not speak any English and is not particularly helpful or nice).
The room is clean and it has an en-suite bathroom with hot water but power plugs are scarce and not conveniently situated; also it is quite noisy as the window faces the main commercial street of Antigua Guatemala (where the mercadoi is). There is Free Wi-Fi but no free water (and this can quickly add to your daily budget as everything needs to be washed with filtered water).

The Crew spends the morning in Chichicastenango for a quick tour of the town and its famous market! Afterwards, the Crew heads to the Guatemala City Airport to catch an evening flight up to Guatemala's northern Petén region. There, the group spends the night in the island town of Flores on Lake Petén Itzá before beginning their tours of ancient Mayan civilizations.
