The most important travel tip when visiting Ecuador
Ecuador is NOT the Galapagos Islands and Galapagos is not Ecuador.
The Galapagos Islands are PART OF Ecuador.
And while it’s an incredible place filled with natural beauty, adventure activities and heritage, there is so much more beyond its boundaries.
If you want to see amazing beaches visit Manta, San Lorenzo or Tonsupa!
If you want to see exotic animals, head over to the Amazon Rainforest.
If you want to see volcanoes then visit Cotopaxi (one of the highest active volcanoes in the world), Chimborazo (the closest point on Earth to the sun), and Cayambe (highest mountain in the Equator line).
If you want to see historical cities and churches visit Quito & Cuenca (both World Heritage Sites of UNESCO).
If you want to see breathtaking scenery take yourself to the Atillo lagoons & Cuicocha lake.
If you want to see the best sunsets, go to Mount Puñay, Cuyabeno, Yagüi Urco or Teleferiqo.
If you want to ride a cable car/ gondola lift visit Quito or Guayaquil.
Love birds? Well, Ecuador has more birds per square kilometer than anywhere else in the world, the best place is in Mindo.
Want to surf? No problem, hit the waves in Montañita.

Baños, también conocida como Baños de Agua Santa, es una ciudad ecuatoriana; cabecera cantonal del Cantón Baños, así como la segunda urbe más grande y poblada de la Provincia de Tungurahua. Se localiza al centro de la Región interandina del Ecuador, muy próxima al centro geométrico del territorio ecuatoriano; en los flancos externos de la cordillera oriental de los Andes, entre el río Pastaza, el río Bascún y las faldas del volcán Tungurahua, a una altitud de 1820 msnm y con un clima lluvioso tropical de 19 °C en promedio.
Es un centro turístico de importancia del país, también se le conoce como: El Pedacito de Cielo, La Puerta de El Dorado o Ciudad del Volcán. En el censo de 2010 tenía una población de 12.995 habitantes, lo que la convierte en la septuagésima cuarta ciudad más poblada del país. Forma parte del área metropolitana de Ambato, pues su actividad económica, social y comercial está fuertemente ligada a la capital provincial de Tungurahua, siendo ciudad dormitorio para miles de trabajadores que se trasladan a aquella urbe por vía terrestre diariamente. El conglomerado alberga a 489.537 habitantes, y ocupa la quinta posición entre las conurbaciones del Ecuador.
Sus orígenes datan de la época colonial, pero es a mediados del siglo xx, debido a su ubicación geográfica y sus recursos turísticos, presentando un importante crecimiento demográfico hasta establecer un poblado urbano, que sería posteriormente uno de los principales núcleos urbanos de Tungurahua. Es uno de los sitios turísticos más importantes del centro del país.
