Sambava, Madagascar. $15 Hotel on the Beach.

After 3 weeks in Diego-Suarez, I took a 13 hour bus ride to Sambava on the East Coast of Madagascar. In Sambava, there are several affordable hotels right on the beach. I chose the Hotel Melrose, my room is about $15 a night with good wifi and a fan.

Diego Suarez is my favorite city in Madagascar so far. Not too big, not too small, lots of cafes, restaurants , boulangeries. With some tourists and nightlife unlike other cities I have been in recently.

???????? Es geht weiter! Von Sambava führt uns der Weg entlang der Ostküste Madagaskars nach Vohémar. Schöne Pantherchamäleons säumen den Weg und wir lassen uns ein bisschen viel Zeit. In Vohémar gibt es einen kleinen Snack, bevor es weiter auf der RN5a nach Daraina geht. Auf der RN5a?! Ja, denn die hat eine kleine Überraschung parat - und keine, mit der man rechnen würde. ;) Nahe Daraina geht es dann nur noch offroad weiter - und die letzten Kilometer haben es in sich, wenn niemand so richtig den Weg weiß und es stockfinster ist.

???????? It goes on! From Sambava, the road takes us along the east coast of Madagascar to Vohémar. Beautiful panther chameleons line the way and we take our time. In Vohémar we have a small snack before continuing on the RN5a to Daraina. On the RN5a?! Yes, because it has a little surprise in store - and not one you would expect ;) Near Daraina, it's all off-road - and the last few kilometres are a real challenge when no one really knows the way and it's pitch black.

???????? Ça continue ! De Sambava, le chemin nous mène le long de la côte est de Madagascar jusqu'à Vohémar. De beaux caméléons panthères jalonnent le chemin et nous prenons un peu notre temps. À Vohémar, nous prenons un petit snack avant de continuer sur la RN5a vers Daraina. Sur la RN5a ?! Oui, car elle nous réserve une petite surprise - et pas celle à laquelle on s'attend ;) Près de Daraina, il n'y a plus que du hors-piste - et les derniers kilomètres sont difficiles, quand personne ne connaît vraiment le chemin et qu'il fait nuit noire.
