Ufa is one of the biggest cities in Russia, the capital of Bashkortostan Republic. It is one of the largest economic, cultural, sports, religious, and scientific centers of the country, an important transport hub, located about 1,340 km southeast of Moscow. Life in Ufa swings from major highways to quiet streets, modern nightlife to rich cultural traditions. It also regularly hosts major international competitions and events.

Novokuznetsk - A city in under 10 minutes

The city was founded in 1618 by Cossacks, growing greatly after Stalin's industrialization which helped it build the nation's largest coal mines and steel plants.
With a population of over 548,000, the city harbors many post-secondary Universities for both engineering and medicine.
The city also has nationally-acclaimed hockey and rugby teams, and has many municipal transportation systems in place.
I guess if you want to know from first hand experience, it's a great city but does have it's flaws just like any big city. Crime is obviously big in certain regions, and you can sense the smog from the city's steel mill throughout the region. However if you drive out by 30 minutes it's easy to find cottage country and many other natural landscape features.
A week with my family in Ufa, Russia | Bashkortostan - the land of Bashkirs and Tatars
Bashkortostan is home to Russia's biggest ethnic minorities - Tatars and Bashkirs. The Bashkirs are a Kipchak Turkic ethnic group, indigenous to Russia and they speak Bashkir language, a close relative of the Tatar language. Once Bashkirs were nomadic and they were incorporated into the great Mongol Empire, but then they joined Russia! They traditionally practiced agriculture, cattle-rearing and bee-keeping. The nomadic Bashkirs wandered either the mountains or the steppes, herding cattle, and even now people identify strongly with their village and regard this as the main social unit.
I will show you the capital of Bashkortostan - Ufa and introduce you to the Bashkir national costumes, songs and dances. And, I will also introduce you to my Tatar family who lives in Bashkortostan!

Salavat is an Eagle Hunter, or Berkutchi, this is how you say eagle hunter in Kyrgyz. I met him in Bokonbaevo, a small town on the South Shore of Issyk-Kul Lake in Kyrgyzstan. He wore a traditional eagle hunter dress and looked stunning sitting on his horse; the golden eagle sits on the hand. Taigan, a Kyrgyz hunting dog, was sniffing around. I asked Salavat if I could take a picture of him and we fell into conversation about eagle hunters, Chengiz Khan, traditions, modern time and national pride.
