History buffs shouldn’t miss the Greek island of Salamina (Salamis), and it’s convenient for inquisitive travellers, too; you can explore the entire length and breadth of the island of Salamina (Salamis), from the peninsula of Kynosoura in the northeast (where the Naval Battle of Salamina took place in 480BC) to the cave where Euripides (the Athenian tragedy writer) sought shelter in the south.

The chief city, Salamina, lies in the west-facing core of the crescent on Salamis Bay, which opens into the Saronic Gulf. On the Eastern side of the island is its main port, Paloukia, in size second in Greece only to Piraeus, the port of Athens.
From at least the 13th century until the 19th century, the town, the island, and the bay of Salamis were called Koulouri (Κούλουρη), because of its round shape (κόλουρο). The ancient name was revived in the 19th century. The name Koulouri is still used informally for the town.

Let's travel to the Greek island of Salamis (Greek: Σαλαμίνα, Salamína) which is the largest Greek island in the Saronic Gulf, about 2 km (1 nmi) off-coast from Piraeus and about 16 km (10 mi) west of central Athens. Aias Club, in Salamis (Salamina) has a long pebble beach with several cafes, beach beds and umbrellas, and a couple restaurants. Aias Club is just a beach town, mostly residential with summer homes and houses for people who live here year round. One of the Aias Club beach restaurants is a cafeteria, which is a cafe with food, cocktails and fancy chairs, and the other is Cafe Taverna Ajax which calls itself a mezedopouleion but could pass for a psarotaverna with meat and mezedes.
