Cervia is a seaside town of some 30,000 people in Emilia-Romagna in Italy, best known for its salt which has been locally produced for hundreds of years. The name Cervia probably refers to the Acervi which is the name given to large amounts of salt left in the local evaporation pods.
As can be seen, I was fortunate enough to park right in the centre of town although in summer you would not get away with this in a motorhome - however there are campsites around 2km from the centre.
Cervia is a fishing port - so fresh fish is available throughout the year!
The town has existed probably for 3,000 years, founded by the Greeks. The medieval city was in the salt marsh, it was walled and had three fortified entrances, seven churches and a castle. It was important enough to get a mention in Dante's Divine Comedy (Inferno, Canto XXVII, lines 40–42).
The marsh was malarial and therefore unhealthy and on 9 November 1697 Pope Innocent XII ordered the whole city to be rebuilt in a safer location - so everything moved. One of the reasons for the original location was defence against pirates in the Adriatic, however the sea had retreated around one kilometre and so the new location was safer. However the Pope kept his eye on the bottom line and remembered that the main business was salt, so the new Cervia had to have silos for storage of salt, containing up to 13,000 tons. Those silos can still be seen today, one on each side of the canal.
The town that we can see today therefore is a prime example of early eighteenth century planning - a new town so to speak. It is built in a square, with the poorer housing on the outsides and the wealthier residences around the magnificent town square.

L'autostrada A2, detta anche autostrada del Mediterraneo, è parte delle strade europee E45, E90 e E841 e, con un'estensione totale di 442,2 km, rappresenta la continuazione dell'autostrada A3 e del raccordo autostradale 2 collegando Salerno a Reggio Calabria passando per Cosenza e Vibo Valentia.
Il 22 dicembre 2016, in occasione della cerimonia conclusiva dei grandi lavori di ammodernamento della A3 - Salerno/Reggio Calabria, fu annunciato che l'infrastruttura avrebbe cambiato nome in A2 - Autostrada del Mediterraneo e che il nuovo itinerario sarebbe partito da Fisciano «come naturale prosecuzione dell’itinerario Nord-Sud che nasce a Milano con l’autostrada A1» e sarebbe terminato a Villa San Giovanni «porta di accesso alla Sicilia e naturale conclusione dell’itinerario internazionale E45», escludendo quindi il tratto iniziale di 2,335 km da Salerno Centro e Salerno Fratte, in seguito ridenominato A2 dir NA, e quello terminale di 9,17 km da Villa San Giovanni a Reggio Calabria Nord, in seguito ridenominato A2 dir RC, entrambi tratti non interessati da lavori di ricostruzione. Inoltre, Anas rilanciò l'A2 come circuito di opportunità per la valorizzazione turistica del territorio. Con il cambio di denominazione, la modifica dei capisaldi di itinerario e la campagna di valorizzazione turistica del tracciato dell'A2, a partire dal primo semestre 2017 e proseguendo nel 2018, Anas attuò l'installazione della nuova segnaletica turistica nei pressi degli svincoli e la sostituzione dei pannelli di numerazione cavalcavia (che tenevano conto anche del tratto A3 - Napoli/Salerno), delle progressive chilometriche e della segnaletica in generale, adottando l'utilizzo di un nuovo pacchetto di segnaletica riportante l'indicazione A2 (il pacchetto A2). Durante i grandi lavori di ammodernamento, l'asse originario dell'ex A3, oggi A2, tra l'innesto raccordo Salerno-Avellino (ex km 2,335) e lo svincolo di Campo Calabro (ex km 433,75) subì una riduzione di quasi 7,5 km (7,485 per la precisione), portando il nuovo asse autostradale, che include i primi 8,035 km dell'ex raccordo autostradale 2 e il tratto appena citato dell'ex A3, a misurare complessivamente 432,200 km. Le indicazioni riportanti i capisaldi di itinerario riportate sulla segnaletica stradale sarebbero rimaste, comunque, Salerno in direzione nord e Reggio Calabria in direzione sud.

Polla si trova a nord del Vallo di Diano, a circa 10 km da Sala Consilina e a 80 da Salerno, sulle rive del fiume Tanagro ed a ridosso dei monti Alburni. Da Pertosa dista circa 7 km, mentre ne dista 5 dalle omonime grotte, il cui percorso si snoda nel sottosuolo dei comuni di Auletta e della stessa Polla, con un probabile sbocco, il cui percorso è coperta da sedimenti, alla cosiddetta Grotta di Polla; sul versante collinare. Il comune, che conta un quartiere distaccato (San Pietro) sulla strada statale 19, è il maggior centro dell'area in cui si trova, secondo per popolazione solo a Sala Consilina.

Padula - Salerno - Italia - Casa Museo de Joe Petrosino - 2013
Padula está situada al Sudeste de la provincia de Salerno, en el Vallo de Diano, sobre dos colinas a 699 msnm. Dista cerca de 10 kilómetros de Sala Consilina. A lo largo de la frontera con Sassano fluye el río Tanagro, que atraviesa el Vallo de Diano de sur a norte. Padula dista 100 km de Salerno y 65 km de Potenza.
El nombre Padula deriva muy probablemente del latín medieval Paludem, es decir pantano (Palude en italiano), de hecho en la planicie, se extendía un pantano.
Casa Museo de Joseph Joe Petrosino (30 agosto 1860 hasta 12 marzo 1909). Fue un oficial de policía de Nueva York que fue un pionero en la lucha contra el crimen organizado. Las diversas técnicas de combate del crimen que Petrosino implementó fueron pioneras durante su carrera policial, y todavía son practicadas por diversos organismos.
Petrosino nació en Padula en 1860. La familia Petrosino emigró a los Estados Unidos en 1874.

Turnip greens (cime di rapa), Bari, Apulia, Italy, Europe
The turnip top is a typical vegetable of Italian agriculture, cultivated above all in four regions, Lazio, Puglia, Molise and Campania, in which 95% of the agricultural area dedicated to this extends plant. Introduced by Italian emigrants, its cultivation has also spread abroad, to the United States of America and Australia. The bud inflorescences (also called friarielli, in the Neapolitan, broccoletti or broccoli di rapa) are consumed of the plant together with the softest leaves that surround them, according to recipes that, in general, refer to the local tradition in the different regions. Due to its characteristic of vegetating and producing at low temperatures, it is considered an autumn or winter vegetable, whose use is recommended for its mineral salt content, vitamins and antioxidant factors. It is sown in broadcaster in late summer or early autumn, sometimes it is transplanted into rows 30 cm apart and 30 cm apart in the row. In the first vegetative phase, the plant emits a basal rosette of leaves, while in the reproductive phase it develops stems ending in tender and fleshy inflorescences. The varieties refer to ecotypes whose denomination recalls the place of cultivation (Cima di rapa Cassanese) and the length of the cycle (Natalina, Marzatica) or combinations between the two characters (Tardiva di Fasano, Aprile di Carovigno). The early varieties take 80 days from sowing to flowering (eg Quarantina), while the later ones (eg Cima di rapa di April, Maggiaiola di Sala Consilina) 190-200 days. The height of the plant is proportional to the length of the growth cycle: the early populations are of low size (50-60 cm) the late higher spring (eg 110 cm the Cima di rapa in March of Mola di Bari). The collection, scalar, is carried out in autumn, winter or in the following spring according to the length of the cycle, collecting by hand the inflorescences with the stem until the insertion of the lateral inflorescences, with all the attached leaves. The opening of the flowers depreciates the quality of the product, which is barely edible. The turnip top is widely used and widespread in traditional southern cuisine, particularly in Puglia and Campania. It is eaten cooked and is the main ingredient of many typical dishes of the Apulian cuisine, including the famous orecchiette with turnip tops, the strascinati and cime di rape, the turnips stewed with chilli, broad beans and turnips , boiled turnip tops seasoned with extra virgin olive oil . It is widely used in combination with sausage, for which a specialty from Campania is known (pizza with sasicc 'and friarielli) and a similar one from Puglia (puccia with turnips and tarantino sausage). The use of young specimens is preferred, not more than 15 cm, due to their less bitter taste. In the area of Mottola, instead, the use of more adult specimens, between 25 and 30 cm, is preferred, accompanied by a sauce of earth snails.
Padula (SA) - Certosa di San Lorenzo (Slide Show)
La Certosa di San Lorenzo, conosciuta anche come Certosa di Padula, è la più grande certosa in Italia, nonché tra le più famose, ed è situata a Padula, nel Vallo di Diano, in Provincia di Salerno. Nel 1998 è stata dichiarata patrimonio dell'Umanità dall'UNESCO.
La Certosa di Padula fu fondata nel 1306 da Tommaso Sanseverino conte di Marsico e signore del Vallo di Diano, sotto la supervisione organizzativa del Priore della Certosa di Trisulti (Frosinone), sul sito di un preesistente cenobio. La sua struttura richiama l'immagine della graticola sulla quale il santo a cui è dedicata fu bruciato vivo. La storia dell'edificio copre un periodo di circa 450 anni.
La parte principale della Certosa è in stile Barocco ed occupa una superficie di 51.500 m² sulla quale sono edificate oltre 320 stanze. Il monastero ha il più grande chiostro del mondo (circa 12.000 m²) ed è contornato da 84 colonne. Una grande scala a chiocciola, in marmo bianco, porta alla grande biblioteca del convento.
Secondo la regola certosina che predica il lavoro e la contemplazione, nella Certosa esistono posti diversi per la loro attuazione: il tranquillo chiostro, la biblioteca con il pavimento ricoperto da mattonelle in ceramica di Vietri sul Mare, la Cappella decorata con preziosi marmi, la grande cucina dove, la leggenda narra, fu preparata una frittata di 1.000 uova per Carlo V, le grandi cantine con le enormi botti, le lavanderie ed i campi limitrofi dove venivano coltivati i frutti della terra per il sostentamento dei monaci oltre che per la commercializzazione con l'esterno. I monaci producevano vino, olio di oliva, frutta ed ortaggi.
Oggi la Certosa ospita il museo archeologico provinciale della Lucania occidentale, che raccoglie una collezione di reperti provenienti dagli scavi delle necropoli di Sala Consilina e di Padula. Questo museo copre un periodo che va dalla preistoria all'età ellenistica. (fonte:
