10 MUST DO ACTIVITIES on your Jersey Holiday (Channel Islands) #Jersey #ChannelIslands

There are some amazing things to see and do in the island of Jersey. Whether you're on a romantic break with a loved one, or bringing the kids for a family holiday, there's something for everyone. Here's a round up of some of the MUST-DO things to include when planning your trip.

Our first must-do are the **castles**!

Mont Orgueil is an 800 year old medieval fortress which stands guard over the quaint little fishing village of Gorey. Inside you'll find fascinating artwork & exhibitions, knights and princess dress-up, a medieval-themed play area and don't miss the stunning view from the very top.

Elizabeth Castle is built on a rocky islet, just south of the capital, St Helier. Surrounded by sea, it's defended Jersey for over 400 years. You can walk out to the castle on the causeway at low tide but when it's high you can catch the castle ferry, an amphibious vehicle which drives on the sand then floats once it's in the water. Catch the living history characters' midday parade and watch them fire the canon. Explore the German bunkers added during World War 2. Climb to the highest point & check out the view of St. Aubin's bay. and visit St. Helier's rock top hermitage.

The next thing you have to do is to see the island from the water on a **boat trip**. Whether that's sailing around the coast exploring secret beaches and caves or visiting the other rocks and islets belonging to Jersey. There's also a high likelihood you'll come across dolphins, seals and other local wildlife while you're out there.

**Jersey Zoo** is world famous for its founder; naturalist and author Gerald Durrell, and the conservation work carried out internationally by the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust. There are scheduled keeper talks, play areas and you can also book exclusive behind the scenes experiences. You can even stay overnight at the park in either a 5* glamping pod or the more budget-friendly hostel.

Jersey's famously the sunniest place in the British isles, so if you're looking for a little R&R, you'll find plenty of space on our world class **beaches**. There are way too many beautiful bays to mention here but after this, make sure you watch our video on the 10 best beaches in Jersey!

And while you're at the beach make sure you enjoy our crystal clear waters by checking out some of the **watersports** on offer. Why not take a guided kayaking or coasteering tour?

After all that activity, you'll have worked up an appetite. As a small island surrounded by sea Jersey has some of the best **seafood** available, and it reaches your plate as fresh as can be. Check out some of the locally run seafood restaurants where you'll find oysters, sea bass, crab, scallops and more all caught in Jersey waters - delicious!

The **Botanical Gardens at Samares Manor** are a must see in Jersey. Explore the Herb Garden, Japanese garden, duck pond and stables. If you have children with you they'll enjoy the willow labyrinth, jungle path and play area. Then when you've seen all of that recharge with lunch at the cafe.

Jersey is an island with a rich history and the best place to learn about some of that history is the **Jersey War Tunnels.** It's a German Underground Hospital dug deep into a hillside which has been transformed into a museum, to reveal the true story of life in Jersey during its occupation in World War 2.

If you're travelling with children then **Amaizin Adventure Park** is the must-visit attraction for you! With activities like mini golf, go karts and a jumping pillow outside, a huge soft play inside, a barnyard of animals to get to know as well as the corn maze, you can spend all day here and never get bored!

And finally, while you're here make sure you catch the **sunset** in St Ouen. There are plenty of beach cafes with excellent food along the bay so relax and enjoy uninterrupted sea views as the sun disappears below the horizon.

We hope you found this video helpful, be sure to check out the rest of our videos on this channel and let us know in the comments if there's anything else you'd like to know before booking your Jersey holiday.

10 BEST beaches in Jersey, Channel Islands (+ AMAZING views)

#Jersey #ChannelIslamds #beaches
Jersey is well-known for it's sun, sea and sand so in this video we show you the very best of Jersey's beaches.

00:11 Grève de Lecq beach is on the boarder of the parishes of St. Mary and St. Ouen. Its golden sand, easy access and great facilities make it the most popular beach on Jersey's north coast.

00:37 Archirondel is a small pebble beach tucked away down a little lane in the north-eastern corner of the island. The bay faces East, making it perfect for a swim at sunrise. One of its most recognisable features is the Martello Tower which was originally built for artillery soldiers and has now been refurbished into holiday accommodation.

01:02 Heading South around the coast the next bay you come to is Anne Port, another pebbly beach popular in the early morning for those heading into the water. At the southern end of the bay is a rock face known as Geoffrey's Leap where legend has it criminals were executed by being thrown into the sea.

01:27 Officially named the Royal Bay of Grouville by Queen Victoria, this beach is more commonly known by locals as 'Long Beach'. With Mont Orgueil Castle at the Northern end it runs down the east coast of Jersey. Easy access and shallow water make it great for swimming although at low tide there's a long walk to the sea due to large tides.

✅ Bus (several)

02:02 At the Western end of the south coast is Portelet bay, with golden sand and clear shallow waters perfect for swimming and snorkelling. Portelet isn't easily accessible, but the adventurous are rewarded with amazing views! The most recognisable aspect of the bay is Janvrin's Tomb where a local sea captain, who's ship returned carrying the plague, is laid to rest having not been allowed to return to shore.

02:40 Ouaisne is a sheltered beach where you can swim safely. Kismet Cabana serves street food with live music in the summer. This area has historic links with smuggling and the pub in the bay is called the Old Smugglers Inn.

03:05 The island's most recognisable and popular beach is St. Brelade's Bay, with its white sand, safe, clear waters and palm-fringed promenade, it was voted in the top three best UK beaches on TripAdvisor. Its shallow waters make this beach the ideal place for swimming and water-sports.

✅ Bus (12a, 14, Beach Bus)

03:48 Beauport Bay is hidden just around the headland to the West of St. Brelade's but once you're there, it feels a whole world away. Getting there is an adventure in itself, down a steep pathway and steps from the small car park at the top but the climb down (and back up again afterwards) is definitely worth it. A strip of golden sand backs onto a pebble bank and the area directly behind the beach is a nature reserve. The crystal clear water here is perfect for swimming and a popular spot for boats. The lack of facilities here all add to the charm!

04:30 St. Ouen's Bay is the longest beach in Jersey and spans almost the entire west coast. With miles of clean white sand there's plenty of space for everyone. The rolling waves of the Atlantic Ocean make this the best spot for surfing in Jersey and it even boasts one of the oldest surfing clubs in Europe. With its westerly aspect St. Ouen's is the place to be at sunset to relax and watch the sky turn golden over Corbiere lighthouse and La Rocco Tower.
✅ Lifeguards
✅ Cafe
✅ Toilets
✅ Carpark
✅ Bus (22)

05:20 Plémont, in the north west corner of the Island, is shouldered by high cliffs which house the Jersey's largest caves. The beach is hidden entirely by the sea at high tide and there's only a small window to enjoy golden sand and clean rock pools before the sea returns. It's accessed by a long staircase.

Discovering Jersey - the island of dreams (and nightmares)

#jersey #channelislands
Jersey is in the Channel Islands, just off the coast of northern France but they belong to the UK. Or do they? In fact, this is just one of the many mysteries of this beautiful little island that we attempt to uncover during our five night Cosmos Stay and Explore trip. There's so much to unpack and so much to discover we just had to make a video to try and convey our surprise at how much we fell in love with this island, it's quirky and unique features and it's horrific and harrowing journey through enforced occupation by the Nazis in World War Two. If you've never been, this little video journal will hopefully inspire you to find out more.

8 Great things staying at Jersey's BEST beach

Our hotel (Biarritz):

So you've decided to come to Jersey and now you're wondering where to stay and what to do here.
We spent 48 hours in Jersey's most popular bay so that we can show you exactly how to get the most from your stay.

As locals we've always known St. Brelade's as the tourist's beach. Which is no surprise with 5 hotels in such a small area. It's THE place to stay if you're in Jersey on holiday. We spent the weekend at the Biarritz Hotel, which really helped us to appreciate why.

The first and most obvious reason St Brelade's attracts so many visitors is the idyllic soft, white sandy beach. It's lined by beautiful gardens and is often voted in the top 3 beaches in Great Britain. With a huge tidal range, even on a busy day there's loads of space to spread out and play, but if its too crowded, Ouaisne bay, just around the rock face is usually a bit quieter.

If you're planning on spending your time relaxing here, you can hire sun loungers, windbreaks and parasols right on the beach. Or if you're feeling more adventurous, you could take to the water on a paddle board, kayak or banana boat! We loved the guided kayak tour we took with Jersey Kayak Adventures, who led us around the coast exploring inlets and teaching us about the local wildlife.

We'd definitely recommend getting out on the water if you can, but if you'd rather stay dry, you could try one of the daily boat tours on the Jersey Duchess, which leaves St Helier harbour and cruises all the way to Corbierre lighthouse on the Westcoast and back. We've got a whole video on Jersey boat trips coming soon, so subscribe to our Channel if you want to catch that!
So one of the best things about being so close to the beach is that at a certain time of day, everybody else leaves the beach and you've got it all to yourself.
We've spent the afternoon on the beach and we're just heading back our private pathway to the hotel, ready for dinner.

We stayed at the Biarritz hotel, who claim they've got the best view in the bay! It's hard to argue, and our family of 5 felt very welcome. We were given adjoining rooms, which was brilliant for the kids, and the little lounge area and balcony were the perfect place to relax once they were in bed.

It's quite early so rather than jumping straight onto the beach, we've decided to come and explore some of the other parts of the parish that's on offer.
Yes we've shown you lot's of the beautiful bays in st brelades but there's also some really gorgeous inland areas, like here at winston churchill memorial park where we've come for a stroll.

According to Trip Advisor reviews, one of the most popular attractions in the parish is St Brelade's Church and its Fisherman's Chapel which is one of the few surviving medieval chapels in the Channel Islands. They occupy the site of an original wooden church built by St Brelade himself in the 6th Century.
Back in the bay, you're never far from a great choice of food, an absolute must though, is a real Jersey Dairy ice cream!

As you'd expect, Jersey's seafood really is as fresh as it gets, but there's something for every taste and every budget here - from chic seafood restaurant, cool coffee shack or a beach side Pizza Express.

The views from the Biarritz Hotel, especially at sunset, are unbeatable and the gardens are like being in paradise. While we were there we saw green lizards, lots of bird life and even red squirrels.

So if you're coming to Jersey, even if you're not able to stay in St. Brelade, there's something for everyone here so it's certainly worth spending at least some of your time in this incredibly beautiful, action-packed little bay, in Britain's sunniest Isle!

Places to see in ( St Helier - UK )

Saint Helier is one of the twelve parishes of Jersey, the largest of the Channel Islands in the English Channel. The urban area of the parish of St Helier makes up most of the largest town in Jersey, although some of the town area is situated in adjacent St Saviour, with suburbs sprawling into St Lawrence and St Clement. The greater part of St Helier is rural.

Saint Helier is named for Helier (or Helerius), a 6th-century ascetic hermit. The traditional date of his martyrdom is AD 555. His feast day, marked by an annual municipal and ecumenical pilgrimage to the Hermitage, is on 16 July.

Many places in St Helier have been formally listed as Sites of Special Interest by the Planning and Environment department of Jersey. Central Market, in Beresford Street, St Helier, is an indoor market which was opened in 1882. It is an official Site of Special Interest, and is popular with tourists and locals. It features Victorian architecture including cast iron structures, and an ornamental fountain in the centre. The market comprises stalls selling flowers, fruit and vegetables, as well as small shops and cafés. Beresford Market is a separate building next to the Central Market and specialises in fishmongery.

First impressions of ST HELIER - The capital of JERSEY Channel Islands

Hi everyone! In this video, I visit St Helier (or Saint Helier), the capital and only town of Jersey. The Bailiwick of Jersey, together with the Bailiwick of Guernsey, make up the Channel Islands which are situated in the English Channel.

As Jersey is a Crown Dependency, I've added this vlog to the 'British Overseas Territories & Crown Dependencies' playlist.

Jersey is the largest Channel Island and is renowned for its mix of French and English culture. It is closer to France than England but it was still only a 30 minute plane journey away from Gatwick Airport!

The video shows me giving my first impressions of Jersey in general and St Helier in particular. I start the vlog by showing my room for the weekend and I talk about the dimensions of Jersey as shown on a map in the reception area of my guest house.

I then hit the streets and walk towards the town centre. I'm immediately struck by the volume of traffic and the interesting architecture, whilst noticing the similarities with the UK in things such as the road signs and post boxes. I then come across a beach in town where I marvel at the amount of seaweed or kelp that are washed ashore and talk about the apparent significance of seaweed as a fertiliser for Jersey Royal potatoes.

Back in the town, I talk about the development of Jersey's road infrastructure in the 19th century and also give my first impressions of the town centre. I also stumble upon statues of the famous Jersey cows as well as other interesting monuments such as the Jersey Girl statue.

I then get to Liberation Square where I talk a bit about the history of the island, in particular its occupation during the the Second World War. I also then take an even further step back in time and briefly mention other key eras, dates and events in Jersey's history - including the significance of 1204 and how the development of steam technology changed the demography and culture of the island. I also talk about the development of Jersey's tourism and offshore finance sectors and how the island needed to attract seasonal workers and immigrants from Madeira.

As I try to find my way towards Elizabeth Castle, I'm again reminded about the traffic and the number of boats or yachts in St Helier. I also talk about the significance of knitting on the island and tell a story featuring Charles II...

In the latter part of the vlog, I meet a local man who gives me some information about the tide. I then walk towards Elizabeth Castle and Hermitage Rock - the latter features a small church or oratory dedicated to Saint Helier.

Hope you enjoy! If you haven't done so already, please hit the LIKE and SUBSCRIBE buttons - it really helps this channel to grow!

A silent walking tour of ST HELIER, the capital of JERSEY Channel Islands

Hi everyone! In this video, I take you on a silent walking tour through the town centre of St Helier / Saint Helier, the capital and only town of Jersey.

This was taken on a Sunday morning when many of the shops were shut and a general lack of road and people traffic. When it is so quiet, one can really enjoy the architecture and see things one would not normally see when there are loads of people around. It is also great for the mental health to do such a walk. So, come and enjoy this silent walk with me!

Date of filming: 29 January 2023

Welcome to this vlog, the first of our short series of 3 travel vlogs on the beautiful island of Jersey in the Channel Islands.

In this Jersey travel vlog, we take a look at the area in and around St Helier. We head up to the Elizabeth Castle, we visit the old Jersey War Tunnels, or the Nazi War Hospital as it is also known, and we have a wander around the town, and as always, we finish up with a nice cold pint.

We also have a quick look at our hotel - The Merton, as well as mention about travelling to Jersey during the easing of the lockdown rules.

Don't forget to come back to check out the next 2 Jersey travel vlogs coming over the next 2 weeks.

⭐ About Postcard & A Pint:
Welcome to the official Postcard & A Pint YouTube channel.
Postcard & A Pint was thought up by my partner, Rachel & myself, Wills one day while taking our daily 1 hour exercise during the lockdown of 2020. All of a sudden, we were spending more time together, not working 6 or 7 days a week in the arts industry, and binge watching travel programs, and we were actually really enjoying it, and it made us re-evaluate what was important in life for us. Now back to working 6 or 7 days a week again, with very little time off, our happy time is getting out there on our brief times off together and making short travel videos that we are now sharing with you. It's just a bit of fun, and great for our sanity. Your support is hugely appreciated x
