Mindoro is the seventh largest island in the Philippines by land area with a total of 10,571 km² and with a total population of 1,331,473 as of 2015. It is located off the southwestern coast of Luzon and northeast of Palawan. Mindoro is divided into two provinces Occidental Mindoro and Oriental Mindoro.

The southern coast of Mindoro forms the northeastern extremum of the Sulu Sea. Mount Baco is the island's second highest mountain with an elevation of 8,163 feet (2,488 m), located in the province of Occidental Mindoro.

GETTING THERE
Sablayan is located at the center of the Province of Occidental Mindoro, Philippines. There are many different ways to reach Sablayan. The fastest way to reach Sablayan is by air. 45 minute flights from Manila to San Jose are serviced by Cebu Pacific. Then, at two-to-three hour land travel by bus or van will take you to Sablayan.

Apo Reef Natural Park -
Apo Reef is the largest atoll-like reef in Asia, an underwater paradize and a diving mecca. No wonder the reef abounds with two hundred eighty-five (285) species of colorful marine fishes including families of sharks, stingrays, mantas, schools of jacks and snappers, tropical aquarium fish and the crevice-dwelling moray, blemish and gobie. Apo Reef Natural Park has three islands: Apo Island, Apo Menor and Cayos del Bajo with white sandy beaches ideal for recreation and sporting vacation. World's Longest Inter-island Zipline | Would you try it? | Occidental Mindoro

Welcome to another DENstination - Denver’s Travel Diaries! Join me as we explore beautiful places in the Philippines!

This is my 42nd Province out of 82 Provinces in the Philippines. I am in Occidental Mindoro and I tried the World's Longest Inter-island Zipline. The zipline stretches 1700m and the distance between the towers is 1400m. The ride takes a minimum of 3 minutes and 15 seconds. After the zipline, we went to spend the rest of the day in Pandan Island Resort still in the municipality of Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro.

non Sablayan Residents: 500
Enviroronmental Fee: 10

Pandayan Island: Day tour 325/pax
Rooms for overnight stay: Starts at 2000

How to get there:
Option A; Take a bus going to San Jose, Occidental Mindoro in PITX and ask to be dropped in Sablayan. The fare is 1200 inclusive of roro. Travel time takes around 8-10 hours - 3 hours PITX to Batangas Port, 3-4 hours roro, then 3 hours Abra de Ilog Port to Sablayan.

Located off the coast of Sablayan in Occidental Mindoro, Pandan Island is just 20 minutes by boat Barangay Poblacion. The island is surrounded by protected marine area teeming with corals and aquatic life. The sand on the island is grainy to powdery white in texture and color. Accommodations and a restaurant is also available. Electricity is supplied by solar panels and are limited to low consumption devices.

How to get to Pandan Island

Manila to Sablayan

By Air
- Take the 45 minutes flight from Manila to the only operational commercial airport in San Jose, Occidental Mindoro. From San Jose, air-con vans and buses plying the San Jose - Abra De Ilog or Manila route are available right at the town proper. Get off at Barangay Poblacion or at the Sablayan Grand Terminal. Take a tricycle going to the jetty port for the outrigger boats going to Pandan Island.

Note: As of summer of 2019, boat fare is 800 for 10 persons. These are boats operated by the locals.

By Land and Sea
- This overland route will take you to Batangas Port for the RoRo (Roll-On-Roll-Off) ship to Abra De Ilog Port in Occidental Mindoro. From Abra De Ilog, it's just a 3 to 4 hours drive to Sablayan town proper.

Apo Reef: Best Dive Sites Philippines

Apo Reef is the largest coral reef system in the Philippines. Located in West Mindoro province, it is one of the best dive sites and the second-largest coral reef system in the world, next to Australia’s Great Barrier Reef.

To go to Apo Reef Natural Park, we took the bus ride from Buendia to Batangas for about 2 to 3 hours. Arriving in Batangas Port, we took the ferry ride to Abra de Ilog, a municipality in Occidental Mindoro for about 3 to 4 hours. Arriving in Abra de Ilog, we took the van ride to Sablayan for about 2 hours then a boat ride to Apo Reef Natural Park for about 3 hours. The trip will be about 10 to 12 hours one-way.
