AUSTRIAN FOOD YOU MUST TRY IN VIENNA!

Austrian food you must try in Vienna includes Viennese coffee, Wiener Schnitzel, Austrian potato salad, Kaiserschmarrn (Austrian pancakes), Sacher Torte (chocolate cake), Käsekrainer (sausage), and Manner wafers. In this vlog, we take you on a Viennese food tour.

☕ Melange at Cafe Central
To experience Viennese coffee culture, we went to Cafe Central. Cafe Central is one of Vienna's most famous coffee houses that serves traditional Viennese cuisine. Here we tried Wiener Melange. It is a Viennese coffee that is close to a cappuccino.

???? Weiner Schnitzel and Austrian potato salad at Figlmüller
For lunch, we made our way to the home of the schnitzel, Figlmüller. This is THE place to try one of Austria's national dishes. Weiner Schnitzel is a breaded, pan-fried veal cutlet. We also ordered the schnitzel with a side of Austrian potato salad (Erdäpfelsalat).

???? Kaiserschmarrn at Heindls Schmarren & Palatschinkenkuchl
After lunch, we wanted to try a traditional Austrian dessert so we went to the restaurant that specializes in pancakes and Kaiserschmarrn (Emperor's mess). We got the plum Kaiserschmarrn. The shredded pancakes were a favorite of the Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph I.

???? Sacher Torte at Hotel Sacher
Another popular Austrian dessert that we had to try was the Sachertorte from Hotel Sacher. Sachertorte is a chocolate cake with apricot jam and a dark chocolate icing. It is one of the most famous Viennese specialties.

???? Käsekrainer at Bitzinger Würstelstand
After trying a few Austrian desserts, it was time to try Vienna street food. Würstelstand means sausage stand and this is the place to go to try Austrian street food. Here we got a Käsekrainer. It's a Brühwurst with cheese.

???? Manner Original Neapolitan Wafer
The last food we tried during our Austrian food tour was the Manner Original Neapolitan Wafer. It is a wafer with hazelnut cream.

Epic Day in the AUSTRIAN ALPS! ????????✨ Hohenwerfen Castle & Sound of Music Trail (Werfen Day Trip)

Today, we’re taking you on a day trip from Salzburg to the scenic alpine town of Werfen to visit the Austrian Alps. In this video, we'll be hiking (and singing!) our way up the Sound of Music hiking trail, as well as visiting Hohenwerfen Castle, so you're invited to join us on the adventure.

Getting from Salzburg to Werfen was super easy. There is a direct train to Werfen with multiple departures per day. If you miss the direct train like we did, you can ride the train to Bischofshofen and then backtrack one station to Werfen. The travel time is 45 minutes to 1 hour, which makes it a super easy day trip from Salzburg! And the perfect introduction to the Austrian alps.

Our first stop of the day was Hohenwerfen Castle, which was built between the years 1075 and 1078. This is considered the sister castle to Hohensalzburg, which is the fortress overlooking the city of Salzburg. Hohenwerfen sits on a peak high above the Salzach Valley and it’s surrounded by mountains. Ah, the incredible Austrian Alps! We joined a guided tour which gave us access to the chapel, dungeon, arsenal, and the clock tower where you get some truly impressive views of the town below! The one thing to keep in mind before you visit Hohenwerfen Castle is that it's only open from April to November, so it’s not a year-round attraction.

After the castle visit, we hiked the Sound of Music trail overlooking the Austrian alps. Along the way, we came across all sorts of cool art installations connected to songs from the movie. One of the highlights was the rest area with wooden benches that had engraved lyrics from the Sound of Music. The views from that lookout were spectacular. Eventually, we reached an idyllic field, which is where Maria taught the children to sing the Do Re Mi song and they enjoyed a picnic.

Back in town, we ate at Stiege N° 1 and the food was outstanding! Sam had the schnitzel with potatoes, and I ordered the pork roast with bread dumplings and vegetables. This meal was one of the highlights of our trip to Austria.

Overall, we really enjoyed this day trip from Salzburg to Werfen, and we hope this video gave you an idea of how to do this trip on your own!

Alpine Style Austrian Food atop a Mountain + Hiking in Salzburg | Day Trip to Gaisberg, Austria

Join us for a day trip to Gaisberg and a delicious alpine-style lunch atop a mountain! This is one of the easiest day trips from Salzburg and the mountain views are spectacular.

We really wanted to go hiking while we were in Salzburg and Gaisberg proved to be a super easy day trip. Gaisberg is a local mountain in Salzburg located just a few kilometres from the Old Town, and it stands 1,288 meters above sea level.

To get there, we took bus # 151 from Mirabellplatz. It was a 30-minute bus ride and we got off at Zistelalm to hike the rest of the way to the top. There were various trails to choose from all varying in length and level of difficulty. There were some steep trails that lead straight to the top and others that zig-zagged at a lesser incline. Hiking in Gaisberg was very easy and enjoyable, and the best part, was the alpine restaurant on the mountain top!

We ate at Goasn Wirtshaus, where we ordered Marend, a casual snack usually served on a wooden block, that includes a mix of mountain cheeses, cured meats, sausages, lard spreads and bread. This one also had grapes, lingonberries, olives, walnuts, eggs - basically, everything you could possibly want from a snacking board! Aside from that, we also got the Kasnocken (the Austrian version of Käsespäztle) which consists of noodles in a pan with melted cheese and crispy onions. And because we had just climbed a mountain, we also enjoyed two steins of beer! It was the perfect alpine-style lunch and we left more than satisfied.

So, if you find yourself visiting Salzburg and are craving a bit of nature, consider a day trip to Gaisberg!
