Vlkolínec,a colorful village under the town of Ružomberok in Slovakia

Are Slovak Villagers Welcoming? (Social Experiment) ????????

Are Slovak villagers welcoming? I went to the most charming remote Slovak village to find the answer to my question. My intentions was to visit village of Vlkolinec which is unique for many reasons. The main one is that the village has wooden houses and for that reason is listed in the UNESCO World Heritage and the other reason is that the village is special for its villagers as much as 30 original villagers still live there and many more visit there as holiday house and city breakaway. Where else would be the best place to find out about the hospitality and history of the Slovak villagers?

I tour the whole village and visit the Dom UNESCO, then went to the pub for local hand crafted beer I also go to the restaurant for traditional food. I visited the local church and went to the farm to have a look at the animals, I also saw the the well which was the only source of drinking water in this village.

This place reminds me of Čičmany in regards of it being a place of history and well preserved folk wood architecture.

This is a documentary that no other content creator has documented in Vlkolínec, in the Ružomberok region of Slovakia with given permission to have secret access inside the locals private property provided with the history and information from this world UNESCO village.

EXCLUSIVE Traditional Slovak Food In UNESCO Village

Dining at restaurant in the Ružomberok region in Slovakia a place called Vlkolínec which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with folk architecture dating from the 14th century. Vlkolínec situated in the centre of Slovakia, is a remarkably intact settlement with the traditional features of a Central European village. It is the region’s most complete group of these kinds of traditional log houses, often found in mountainous areas. This place reminds me of Čičmany in regards of it being a place of history and well preserved folk wood architecture. It is a remarkably well preserved rural medieval settlement featuring wooden architecture typical of hillside and mountain areas. Its layout, defined in part by the hilly terrain of the mountains of Veľká Fatra, features log houses situated on narrow lots with stables, barns and smaller outbuildings in the rear. A canalized stream flows through the centre of the village. Although the settlement has roots in the 10th century, its first records date to the late 14th century. The urban layout can be traced to this era as records indicate five streets in place by 1469. Most of the surviving buildings, however, date from the 19th century. These include 43 nearly intact homesteads that retain a multitude of archaic building elements, the Church of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary built in 1875, a bell tower built in 1770, and a school. Vlkolínec represents the region’s best preserved and most complex urban unit of original folk architecture consisting of wooden houses and outbuildings, the wooden bell tower and mural buildings of the church and school.
In this episode we make our way straight to the local restaurant to try then food and then we shall tour the village, interact with the locals and find out more about this history here.

Through Ružomberok, Slovakia : Sicily to Ukraine by camper van part 80

Here I drive through the northern Slovakian town of Ružomberok which is located in the Liptov Basin of the Sub-Tatra Basin. It is surrounded by the mountain ranges of Chočské vrchy, Greater Fatra and Low Tatras. Rivers flowing through the town are Váh, from east to west, Revúca and Likavka.

The town is located around 65 km from Žilina, 190 km from Košice and 260 km from Bratislava (by road).

From the second half of the 10th century until 1918, it was part of the Kingdom of Hungary. The first written mention about settlement was in 1233 as terra Reuche. The town was established by Germans, who named it Rosenberg. It got its town rights in 1318. In 1340, Hungarian King Charles Robert confirmed its town rights and extended more. However, its growth was interrupted as it was placed under Likavka rule.

In the 19th century, it was one of the centres of Slovak national movement. It slowly became one of the industrial and financial centres of the Kingdom of Hungary, particularly after the Kassa Oderberg Railway was completed in 1871, when many new factories emerged including paper and pulpwood works, brick works (1871) and the textile industry.

After the break-up of Austria--Hungary in 1918, Ružomberok became a part of Czechoslovakia.

According to the 2001 census, the town had 30,417 inhabitants. 96.64% of inhabitants were Slovaks, 0.95% Roma and 0.87% Czech. The religious make-up was 75.47% Roman Catholics, 14.65% people with no religious affiliation, and 5.46% Lutherans.

Ruzomberok is the home of paper and packaging manufacturer Mondi SCP.

The centre of the town is located at the Andrej Hlinka Square (Námestie Andreja Hlinku). Among the sights in or around the Square are the Roman Catholic Church of St. Andrew, first mentioned in 1318 and originally built as a Gothic, but now is in a Renaissance-Baroque style; town hall, built in 1895 in the neo-Baroque style and the church and monastery of the Holy Cross (built 1806 and 1730 respectively).

Cultural institutions in the towns include the Liptov Museum, established in 1912 which also has exhibitions outside the town. These include the Likava Castle, which is just outside the town in the Likavka village; and the Museum of the Liptov Village in Pribylina. The Ľudovít Fulla Gallery is a branch of the Slovak National Gallery and is dedicated to Fulla's works of art. The town also has the only scout museum in Slovakia.

Other sights within the town include the Evangelic church from 1923--1926, a historic building of the railway station from 1871, now protected as a national historic monument; Calvary above the town in the Classicist style, built in 1858; synagogue from 1880; and the church in Černová, where the tragedy in 1907 happened.

Attractions in the surroundings include the Čebrať mountain (1,054 m), Vlkolínec village, inscribed in 1993 to the UNESCO World Heritage Site list, and the skiing area of Malinô Brdo (also called Malinô Brdo).

Top places in Slovakia Liptovská Mara drone video

Passing through the region of Liptov, from Liptovský Mikuláš to Ružomberok, one must notice a huge water area of the dam Liptovská Mara. It is the largest water reservoir in Slovakia in terms of the confined water volume.

The reservoir, namesake of one of the flooded communities, was built in the years 1970-1975. With the principal aims firstly to palliate the floodrisk on the river Váh and secondly for the production of power.

Construction of the dam required moving of inhabitants of several communes which were inundated, including several cultural and historical monuments, although the most important of them were moved out and are now the main exhibits in the Museum of Liptov Village in Pribylina.

A Liptovská Mara partján a legjelentősebb üdülőközpont a Liptovký Trnovecben található kemping – Mara Camping.

Visiting Čutkovska Dolina, Living in Slovakia As A Foreigner, Daily Vlog

Today I visited Čutkovska Dolina which is about a 10-15 min drive from Liskova where I live. The weather was amazing and spring was truly in the air.
If you're ever in Slovakia or live here I can highly recommend visiting Čutkovska Dolina. Unfortunately the restaurants etc were closed and I couldn't get a bite to eat but the food is amazing, not to mention the beer they brew on site. I was lucky enough to be given a coffee from the kind lady in the restaurant and she refused to accept money from me, which again highlights the kindness of the Slovak people.

Walking Tour: Vlkolínec, Slovakia / Pěší výlet: Vlkolínec, Slovensko

Vlkolínec, Slovakia, is a picturesque village under the administration of the town of Ružomberok. Historically, however, it was a separate village. The first written mention of the village came from 1376 and after 1882 it became part of Ružomberok. Its name is probably derived from the Slovak word vlk, i. e. wolf.
Vlkolínec has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1993, and is one of ten Slovak villages that have been given the status of a folk architecture reservations. This status was granted because the village is an untouched and complex example of folk countryside architecture of the region of the Northern Carpathians.( )
