About Bassano del Grappa:

Bassano del Grappa is a city and comune, in the Vicenza province, in the region of Veneto, in northern Italy. It bounds the communes of Cassola, Marostica, Solagna, Pove del Grappa, Romano d'Ezzelino, Campolongo sul Brenta, Conco, Rosà, Cartigliano and Nove. Some neighbourhoods of these communes have become in practice a part of the urban area of Bassano, so that the population of the whole conurbation totals around 70,000 people.

The city was founded in the 2nd century BC by a Roman called Bassianus, whence the name, as an agricultural estate. However, an ancient bronze sword (called spada di Riccardo), found in 2009 and dating back to the 7th century BC, possibly between the 18th and 15th century BC, suggests that the area of Bassano was already inhabited not just in the pre-Roman period, but possibly even in the pre-Venetic period, as confirmed by some artifacts found in a necropolis located in the neighbourhood of San Giorgio di Angarano.

The first news of the existence of the medieval city dates from 998, while the castle is mentioned first in 1150. In 1175 Bassano was conquered by Vicenza, but the city maintained a semi-autonomous status as a free comune in the 13th century also, when it was home to the family of the Ezzelini, who first unified the various territories of Veneto.

In 1278, according to Giovanni da Nono, Matteo of the Cortusi family of #padua / #padova  was elected podestà. In 1281, the city came under Paduan control. In 1368 Bassano was acquired by the Visconti of #milan and was given the status of separate land (terra separata).

In 1404, Bassano became a part of the Stato da Tera 'Mainland State' of the Venetian Republic, which granted the Bassanese district the status of autonomous podesteria, free and separate from whatever city and from the jurisdiction of whatever city (sit ipsa terra exempta et separata a quacumque civitate et iurisdictione cuiuscumque civitatis) and subordinate only to #venice / #venezia The autonomous district included Bassano properly and the villas of Cartigliano, Cismon and Primolano, Rossano, San Nazario, Pove, Solagna plus Cassola (on lands previously belonging to Pove and Solagna) and Tezze and Rosà (on lands previously part of Bassano). In addition to this, Valstagna and Campese (then belonging to Vicenza and the Seven Communes) and Romano and Mussolente (then belonging to Treviso) had strong commercial and political ties with the district as they were located very close to Bassano and its port on the river Brenta connected with #Venice. In 1760 Doge Francesco Loredan granted Bassano the title of City, subsequently retained under the Austrian and the Italian States. The Serenissima did not alter the town's magistratures, limiting itself to impose a Captain chosen by the Venetian Senate. The city became home to a flourishing industry producing wool, silk, iron and copper, and mainly for ceramics; in the 18th became especially famous in all Europe for the presence of the Remondini [it] printer company.

During the French Revolutionary Wars the city was the site of the Battle of Bassano. In 1815 it was included in the Kingdom of Lombardy–Venetia, and became part of the unified Kingdom of Italy in 1866. Napoleon Bonaparte remained in Bassano del Grappa for many months.

The original name of the town was Bassano Veneto. After the terrible battles on Mount Grappa in World War I, where thousands of soldiers died, a decision was made to change the name of the town. In 1928, the name was changed to Bassano del Grappa, meaning Bassano of Mount Grappa, as a memorial to the soldiers killed. Ernest Hemingway during his days as an ambulance driver in the war spent many days in Bassano and eventually settled there as part of A Farewell to Arms. Also other American writers spent some days in Bassano during World War I such as Scott Fitzgerald and Dos Passos.

During World War I Bassano was in the front area, and all industrial activities were halted.

In the last days of World War II, Bassano del Grappa was bombed by USAF B-24s and B-17s.

The symbol of the town is the covered Ponte Vecchio, which was designed by the architect Andrea Palladio in 1569. The wooden pontoon bridge was destroyed many times, the last time during World War II. The Alpine soldiers, Alpini, have always revered the wooden bridge and Bassano del Grappa. After the destruction of the bridge, they took up a private collection and had the bridge completely rebuilt. Soldiers often flock to the bridge to remember and sing songs from their days as alpine soldiers. The grappa shop of Nardini Distillery is located on the bridge, known as Ponte degli Alpini.

Bassano Del Grappa Italy ???????? Christmas Walk 4K ULTRA HD Walking Tour

Santesi Dala Bissno Dil Grappa's millenary history.
The first settlements at the foot of the hills, where the Brenta river flows into the plain, are testified by the remains of the necropolis of S. Giorgio di Angarano, where artifacts dating back to the 11th-9th centuries were discovered. C.

Roman colonization probably dates back to the 2nd century BC. C .. And perhaps the name of the city derives from a Bassianus, a Roman colonist who owned a fundus, that is, an agricultural property. Middle Ages, the Ezzelini and the Visconti (568-1404)

Few traces remain of the Lombard (568-774) and Frankish (774-888) dominations, while the following period is marked by the first news (998) of the existence of the parish church of S. Maria, which together with the castle, first named once in 1150, it constituted the first nucleus of Bassano.

Soon Vicenza, aware of the strategic importance of the new settlement, wanted to impose its supremacy, making an assembly of 800 Bassano people swear a pact of fidelity and obedience (1175).
In the following decades, the history of Bassano intertwined with the political and military events of the Ezzelini: their power derived from the landed wealth, increased by the investiture of the tithes received by the bishop of Vicenza and from the proceeds of the mude, ie duties at the gates of the village. The supremacy of the Ezzelini, if on the one hand it limited the municipal autonomy, on the other it favored, through the experience of the administration of Ezzelini's assets, the formation of the first municipal magistracies.
When, in 1259, Ezzelino III died, the Bassanesi asked for the protection of Padua and were assigned the goods and rights that had belonged to the Ezzelini, regulating communal life with the Statutes.
After the brief Vicentine domination (1260- 1268), Bassano went through a troubled period, which saw it subjected to Padua, Verona and again to Padua and which ended in 1388 with its passage under the Visconti. The Visconti period is characterized by a relative autonomy of the city, testified by the last drafting of the Statutes in 1389.
Venetian rule (1404-1797)
On 10 June 1404 Bassano passed under the Republic of Venice. The dedication pacts provided for the maintenance of the statutes and customs of the municipality. Bassano was erected as a Podesta Office, governed by a Podestà and Capitanio chosen by the Senate from among the Venetian patricians.
The Bassano area extended to the east as far as Pove, Cassola and Rossano, to the south to Tezze sul Brenta, to the north to Primolano, while to the west it was limited by the course of the Brenta, with the bridgehead of the hamlet of Angarano in the Vicenza area.
The four centuries of domination of the Serenissima brought to Bassano a long period of peace, interrupted only between 1509 and 1513 by the war of the League of Cambrai, and characterized by a great development of economic activities, such as the processing and trade of wool, silk and leathers and goldsmiths. In the artistic life the dynasty of da Ponte painters became famous in the 16th century, while in the field of publishing the Remondini printing house dominated the book and print market throughout the eighteenth century, making Bassano known throughout Europe.
On December 27, 1760 the Venetian Senate raised Bassano to the rank of city
The bridge
The presence of the bridge over the Brenta between the towns of Bassano and Angarano is documented for the first time in the chronicle of Gerardo Maurisio relating to the year 1209. Over the centuries the bridge, of vital economic and military importance, was often destroyed by war and by full of the Brenta and always rebuilt, sometimes in stone and sometimes in wood.
After yet another collapse, in 1569, the Council commissioned Andrea Palladio to design a wooden bridge: it seems, however, that the famous architect did not design the bridge from scratch, but started from an already existing model, documented in a map of 1557.
The Palladian bridge was destroyed by another flood in 1748 and rebuilt with some variations in 1751 by Bartolomeo Ferracina

Travel to Venice Italy - Venezia in Italia

Travel to Venice Italy - Venezia in Italia YouTube video clips. Venice Italy online video information. Many tourists consider Venice to be one of the best places to travel in Italy.

Venice (Italian: Venezia, Venetian: Venezsia, Latin: Venetia) is a city in northern Italy, the capital of region Veneto, and has a population of 271,251 (census estimate January 1, 2004). Together with Padua, the city is included in the Padua-Venice Metropolitan Area (population 1,600,000). Venice has been known as the Queen of the Adriatic, City of Water, City of Bridges, and The City of Light.

The city stretches across 117 small islands in the marshy Venetian Lagoon along the Adriatic Sea in northeast Italy. The saltwater lagoon stretches along the shoreline between the mouths of the Po (south) and the Piave (north) Rivers. The population estimate of 272,000 inhabitants includes the population of the whole Comune of Venezia; around 62,000 in the historic city of Venice (Centro storico); 176,000 in Terraferma (the Mainland), mostly in the large frazione of Mestre and Marghera; and 31,000 live on other islands in the lagoon.

The Venetian Republic was a major maritime power and a staging area for the Fourth Crusade, as well as a very important center of commerce (especially silk, grain and spice trade) and art in the Renaissance and up to the end of the 17th century. (from Wikipedia)

Welcome to Villa Bartolini-Tammaro - Santa Marizza di Varmo (UD)

UN MONDO DI SOGNI ED EMOZIONI
A WORLD OF DREAMS & EMOTIONS

Walking through the green countryside of Friuli Venezia Giulia, going across unpaved roads that brings us back to the ancient time … we start this tour among nature and culture …
In these open spaces that allow our mind to take a break from the daily stressful activities we can finally relax, empty our minds from concerns and finally leave some space to get the images, the perfumes and the emotions that this trip will be able to present us.
Walking on a green grass garden, breathing at the top of our lungs the flowers scent, our heart will enjoy heated by the sun and our body will find relief in stopping by a tree shadow … so that our mind will be empty and lost in these endless spaces.
Then all of the sudden, this superb XVII century Venetian Villa stands out in front of us with its classic and elegant profile … its magnificent main facade is scanned by the cadenced alternation of wide windows that allows us to take a glance inside the villa and discover a new sight that excite our curiosity and it pushes us to enter.
Here we are! Finally in the heart of our trip ready to taste new perfumes, too discover new landscapes and faces … a set of artworks, books, halls, that will give us a world of dream and emotions!
