Rosebud is a large beach-side centre fronting Port Phillip on the Mornington Peninsula, located between Rye and Dromana.
The town was named after the English schooner that was blown ashore in 1855, a short distance to the west of where the Rosebud Pier now stands.
Rosebud's commercial centre stretches along one side for an approx. 2-kilometre length of Point Nepean Road, with some shops, separated from this wide thoroughfare by a service road.
The shopping precinct features attractive garden strips, paved areas and several wood carvings of notable local identities from the past. At the western end of the commercial strip is the large Rosebud Plaza Shopping Centre, while towards the eastern end is the smaller Rosebud Beach Shopping Centre, Rosebud Central Shopping Centre and local cinema complex.
Rosebud provides safe swimming beaches along its continuous stretch of sandy bay coastline, with the focal point being Rosebud Pier which is located opposite Jetty Road and extends about 300 metres into the water.
A notable feature of Rosebud's Bay foreshore is a lack of commercial development. Most of the area between the coastal route of Point Nepean Road and the beach consists of community facilities, parkland and camping areas within sections of bushland.
A striking landmark in Rosebud is the bushy mountain peak of Arthurs Seat. It rises up in the distance behind the shops along Point Nepean Road and provides a scenic backdrop when viewed on Rosebud's beaches.
Rosebud provides plenty of sporting activities for visitors. As well as several golf courses within Rosebud itself, more can be found a short drive inland at Fingal and Boneo. Rosebud is also home to several large sports reserves including Olympic Park and Trueman Road Recreational Reserve.

4K - Walking around McCrae Town centre and Beach , Victoria, Australia - 10th July 2020
McCrae is a small coastal village between Dromana and Rosebud at the foot of Arthurs Seat along the shores of Port Phillip. It offers a long beautiful white sandy beach and shallow swimming which is favoured by families, along with a supermarket as well as cafes and restaurants across the road.
The McCrae Lighthouse is a local landmark which was built to mark the turning point for shipping in the main navigational channels between Port Phillip Heads and Melbourne.
Safe swimming can be had at the white sandy beaches along the length of the foreshore reserve from the headland of Anthony’s Nose to Rosebud. There is also camping available in the foreshore reserve in the warmer months which see campers starting to take their sites from mid to late November until Easter.
This coastal strip is known as the foreshore and forms part of the 28km Bay Trail for walkers and cyclists that runs along the Port Phillip coastline from Safety Beach to Portsea.
McCrae is approximately a 1 hour 25 minute (90 minute) drive by car from Melbourne.

Rosebud Beach- Spectacular 8k Drone Shot | #mornington Peninsula 2024
This popular swimming beach stretches nine kilometres and is protected by offshore sandbars. It is a very safe beach for children with lots of sandbars at low tide. Weekend patrols on weekends and public holidays during summer are run by the Rosebud and McCrae Life Saving Clubs. The foreshore reserve has shaded picnic areas, barbecues and the new beachside playground near the pier is without doubt, the best on the peninsula. Another small playground and barbeque can be found at Tom Salt Park.
