Situated in the southeast of Shandong Province, Rizhao is adjacent to the Yellow Sea in the east, and bordered by Linyi to the west, and Qingdao and Weifang to the north. It also shares a boundary with Lianyungang of Jiangsu Province. Rizhao is a seaside city, and most of the tourists visit here because of the enchanting sea views and soft beaches.

Rizhao, Shandong, China
Rizhao is named after the first light of the sunrise. It is a prefecture-level city in Shandong Province, located in the southeastern part of Shandong Province on the Yellow Sea, east across the Yellow Sea with Japan and South Korea, west of Linyi City, north of Qingdao City, Weifang City, and south of Lianyungang. The total area of the city is 5358.57 square kilometers, and the sea area is 6000 square kilometers, under the jurisdiction of Donggang District, Lanshan District, Ju County, Wulian County, 2 districts and 2 counties. 2021 the city's gross domestic product 221.196 billion yuan, at comparable prices, an increase of 6.8% over the previous year. According to the data of the 7th census, the resident population of Rizhao was 2,968,365 as of 00:00 on November 1, 2020.
Rizhao is a Chinese coastal ecological, livable, tourist, modern port city and port industrial base, and an integral part of Shandong Peninsula City Cluster, Shandong Peninsula Blue Economic Zone and Jiaodong Economic Circle. Rizhao has 168.5 kilometers of coastline, two natural harbors, Shishu Bay and Buddha's Hand Bay, as well as Rizhao Port and Lashan Port, and is known as the Capital of Water Sports and the Sun City of the East. It has received the UN Habitat Award for its excellent environment.
Rizhao belonged to the Eastern barbarians during the Xia and Shang Dynasties, and was one of the birthplaces of the Longshan Culture, which was called the earliest city in Asia by the Oxford University's World History Handbook. It was a part of the Ju State from the Western Zhou Dynasty to the early Warring States period. In the Song Dynasty, Rizhao Town was established, and the name Rizhao began. Rizhao County was established in the Jin Dynasty, and belonged to Qingzhou in the Ming Dynasty and Yizhou in the Qing Dynasty, and was established as a prefecture-level city in June 1989.
Rizhao is home to such historical celebrities as Jiang Shang, Liu Innocence and Ding Zhaozhong. Rizhao was awarded the titles of National Civilized City, National Forest City, National Key City of Environmental Protection, and National Pilot City of Ecological Demonstration Zone Construction, etc. On October 20, 2020, it was named as National Model City (County) of Double Support. 2020 Rizhao achieved a regional gross domestic product (GDP) of 2006.43 billion yuan. 2021 On December 24, the first Gigabit City On December 24, 2021, the first Gigabit City Summit Forum was held in Qingdao, Shandong Province, where the first batch of Gigabit Cities were officially announced, and Rizhao was selected.
