Aalsmeer is a small town and municipality in the Dutch province North Holland and has a population of nearly 31,000 inhabitants. It consists of the village Aalsmeer and a number of smaller villages: Calslagen, Kudelstaart, Oosteinde en Vrouwentroost. As such, it is a part of the broader urban area around Amsterdam. Aalsmeer is well known for the cultivation of flowers and tourism.
History
Aalsmeer was first known as Alsmar, around 1133. The name was mentioned as such in official documents in which a piece of land was being handed over to the Rijnsburg Monastery, which was an abbey inhabited by nuns of noble descent. Alsmeer as we know it today emerged when the marshlands in the area were first being reclaimed. This process was being initiated in the 17th century. As a consequence, fishing in the area declined, and the local inhabitants turned to growing strawberries instead of fishing. Around the 1880’s it was discovered that the area was very well suited to growing flowers and horticulture, and during these times, strawberry cultivation declined and the at present omniprevalent flower cultivation and horticulture started to emerge into what it has become today. In this day and age, Aalsmeer is predominantly known for its flowers and flower auctions. It is also home to the largest floral auction (called VBA) in the world.

History

In the 21th century, this small town is not only known for its flowers, but also for tourism and recreation. Apart from the marinas, the area is known for its great nature and its natural pools with reeds and marsh trees. In the same area, you can find numerous islands varying in size, and predominantly used for recreation and horticulture. Most of the islands are owned privately, but boat tours are being organized in order to allow tourists to discover their beauty.

• The Netherlands has the highest population density in Europe. Under United Nations data, The total number of people living in the Netherlands was 17,140,098 as of August 2020. The entire surface of the nation is 33,720 sq km, giving it a population density of 508 inhabitants per square km. It is interesting to note that around 92.5 percent of the population is in urban regions. Plus, 40 percent of the nation's inhabitants live in the Randstad region, a fusion of cities like Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague, and Utrecht.
• The Netherlands ranks as the sixth happiest nation in the world as per the 2010 World Happiness Report. The annual report evaluates 156 countries, considering healthful life expectations and trust, freedom corruption, and social support. The cheerful Dutch have plenty to be grateful for. It is interesting to note that the country is ranked higher than its neighboring countries, Germany (17th) and Belgium (20th).
• The Netherlands has more bicycles than people. Yes, it's true. There are more than 22 million bikes in the United States and just 17 million people. This includes the innovative (if not as attractive) bakfiets, a combination of a bicycle with a giant container at the front, to carry pets, children, and even shopping. A few sources declare that the Dutch ride an average of 2.9km daily and employ bicycles for more than one-quarter of all journeys. This is in contrast to only 2 percent of the United Kingdom. Other studies suggest that an average Dutch person rides 1,000km per year over about 250 to 300 journeys.
• The Netherlands has more than 1000 windmills. There are more than 1,000 windmills located in the Netherlands, and many are open to visitors the entire year. Certain windmills, like the 19 in the Kinderdijk World Heritage Site, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, still serve to draw water away from the soil. There are only a handful of windmills that are operating commercially across the Netherlands. However, they're still worth visiting if you have the opportunity.
• The Dutchman was the first to develop Bluetooth. Bluetooth is a common feature of modern technology, rooted in the Netherlands. In the 90s that the idea of wireless connection between devices was first introduced by Dutch scientist Dr. Jaap Haartsen. The Bluetooth feature is accessible on many platforms, including devices made by Huawei, one of the many tech companies that have discovered a new home in the Netherlands through NFIA.
• The world's largest exporter of tulips is in the Netherlands. It is not surprising that the Netherlands is the largest exporter of flowers. About two billion flowers are exported from the country every year and are transported to various locations around the world. Most of the flowers are auctioned off at the renowned FloraHolland auctions in Naaldwijk, Rijnsburg, and Aalsmeer, The world's biggest trade center for flowers and plants.
• The Dutchmen are the tallest in the world. The rumors are true. The Dutch are the tallest in the world, with an average of 175.62cm. Dutch males are also the tallest in the world, averaging 182.53cm. Sure, researchers believe that environmental factors like lower social inequality, the availability of universal healthcare, and high dairy consumption are all factors that contribute to this. If you're trying to gain just a couple inches taller, you might consider visiting those Dutch cheese stores!
• The first country to agree on same-sex marriage. The Netherlands is known to be a liberal and progressive country. This is partly due to the truth it was the Netherlands was the very first nation to allow same-sex marriage. Since 2001, it's been legal for two people and two females to be married in the Netherlands. Since 2001, more than 15,000 couples who are same-sex have been married. The number of couples married on the same level also hit a record in 2018, which saw more than 1500 couples married.

Tulips growth and Dutch prosperity - The Netherlands from above
What opportunities does our prosperity offer? The Netherlands know the highest density of holiday parks in the world. It is a portrayal of our prosperity and endless redevelopment resulting in leisure. But can we also achieve growth by thinking beyond the products? This seems to work out in waste management. Waste streams and even our faeces is converted into energy. In fact, we are going back to an old phenomenon: for example, the annual stretcher race from Workum to the Bulbs region relieves the former ship transport from manure from Friesland, which has been used for centuries to grow bulbs on the poor soil in the Bollen Region. In order to bring the bulbs in perfect condition, they need this manure, but also the correct groundwater level is also important. One man, the crane man, is busy on a daily basis, making sure to maintain a perfect balance.
The Netherlands from above shows us a country from a spectacular perspective. From the sky it is possible to see how the Netherlands changes through the seasons, and how in parallel they form the determining moments of our own life cycle. Through data visuals, impressive aerial images and portraits of people on the ground, the second series of the Netherlands from above outlines an image of how time has changed our country and how we move in it. On Saturday, August 13, the colorful parade drove through the streets of Rijnsburg, Katwijk and Noordwijk from 1 p.m. With floats, bandwagons and many other flower-decorated vehicles, this parade was a feast for the eyes and ears! Special attention was paid to the musical collaboration. Together with the 100 extras they turned Flower Parade Rijnsburg into a moving theatre. The parade could be viewed for free along the entire route. With floats, music cars and many other flower-decorated vehicles, this parade was a feast for the eyes and ears!
Bloemencorso Bollenstreek is one of the flower parades in the Netherlands and one of the largest editions of the world. The event takes place in the end of April, The route starts on Saturday in Rijnsburg and go's to Katwijk and ends in the city of Noordwijk.

Kermis Rijnsburg Augustus 2022, Leidse glibber
Het Hoftuinplein in Rijnsburg stroomde vol nadat de geluiden en lichten van de kermis aangingen. De kermis in Rijnsburg is vanmiddag samen met ‘Bing’ en de Oranjevereniging feestelijk geopend.
Konijn Bing van de kinderserie ‘Bing’ werd overspoeld door kinderen die graag een handje of knuffel wilden geven aan Bing.
Traditiegetrouw werden er door Oranjevereniging Rijnsburg ook vrijkaartjes uitgestrooid voor kermisattracties.
Elke tweede zaterdag in augustus rijdt het Bloemencorso door de straten van Rijnsburg, Katwijk en Noordwijk. Het bloemencorso bestaat uit 12 praalwagens, muziekwagens en met bloemen versierde personenauto's, allemaal begeleid door muziek van verschillende straatorkesten. Meer dan 100 figuranten bemannen de praalwagens om de thema's te illustreren, zodat het bloemencorso echt tot leven komt!
Op de vrijdagavond voor het bloemencorso kunt u de praalwagens bekijken tijdens de openingsshow van het Flower Parade bij bloemenveiling Royal Flora Holland in Rijnsburg. Op zondag kunt u de praalwagens bekijken terwijl ze opgesteld staan langs de Koningin Wilhelminaboulevard in Noordwijk.

Dutch Historic Diesel Train Ride
A historic diesel train ride in the South Limburg part of the Netherlands. It's a small one-car heritage train. The tracks are hidden in the countryside, through scenic tree tunnels and WW2 tank barriers.
It is part of the Miljoenenlijn tourist attraction. Really worth a day's adventure!

De lol zat er, wellicht onbedoeld, bij het allereerste corsovoertuig al flink in.
Vanuit de fleurig uitgedoste geluidswagen werden de tienduizenden bezoekers welkom geheten met een korte versterkte boodschap.
Dat gebeurde in het Nederlands met een Rijnsburgs accent, in het Duits met een Rijnsburgs accent, en in het Engels met een accent.
En toen moest de tot Flower Parade omgedoopte stoet nog Schots komen.
Wonderen van de Natuur was zaterdagmiddag het thema van de 76ste editie van het Rijnburgse bloemencorso dat door Rijnburg, Katwijk en Noordwijk toerde en er ook 0p stukken stil hield ter bewondering.
Wekenlang is er door vrijwilligers en professionals minutieus gepriegeld om de deelnemende bedrijfsauto's en praalwagens aan te kleden en te overladen met duizenden bloemen.
De hoeveelheid kleur, daarbij geholpen door een stralend
zonnetje, overweldigde.
Voeg daaraan de vrolijke deuntjes en de circa honderd uitgedoste en zwaaiende figuranten toe, en de verklaring is zeer waarschijnlijk gevonden waarom het corso ook na driekwart eeuw nog op een gigantische belangstelling mag rekenen.
Alleen al vanuit Leiden en Oegstgeest ontstond spontaan een dikke colonne aan fietsers die rond het beginpunt gingen staan nabij het hoofdkwartier van Royal Floraholland aan de Laan van Verhof.
Veel oudere toeschouwers uit met name die groep kunnen zich nog herinneren dat het corso in de vorige eeuw deels door Leiden trok.
Een zware delegatie vanuit de Leidse politiek en bedrijfsleven verraadde vrijdagavond bij de officiële aftrap van de bloemenparade dat de stad wellicht weer terug wil in de route.
Achter de schermen wordt in het geheim gesproken over het initiatief tot herintreding.
Dat is iets waarvoor fotograaf Emile van Aelst, ook bekend als de Leidse Glibber, doorgaat als geestelijk vader.
Bekend is al wel dat er in september een besluit over wordt genomen.
Puzzel
Als Leiden de organisatoren weet te overtuigen, dan trekt
'Typisch Nederland', zoals het thema volgend jaar heet, dus ook door een deel van de stad. Hoe die logistieke bloemenpuzzel gelegd gaat worden, daar is nog twaalf maanden bedenktijd voor.
Als de geluidswagen op kop maar niet ontbreekt
