In this episode I decided to do a weekend activity that i haven't done in a long while - visit one of Sydney's most popular farmers market; the Carriageworks Farmers Market.
The weekly Carriageworks Farmers Market is a Sydney institution, providing the freshest seasonal produce from the best growers and producers from around NSW.
At the Carriageworks Farmers Market you can talk to the farmer firsthand and learn the stories behind your food. Find organic and biodynamic produce, artisan breads, boutique wines, single origin coffee, herbal teas, meat, eggs, freshly harvested honey and freshly cut flowers.

With the long-standing cultural history of the First Nations People in Redfern, it would be difficult not to notice the apparent street art in this Sydney suburb about changing the date for Australia Day / Invasion Day. Combine the cultural heritage with artists and hipsters and you’ve got yourself a unique Sydney suburb to explore.
If Sydney was New York, then Redfern would probably be Brooklyn; it boasts similar, slightly gritty elements along with its blend of wealthy property owners, artsy types, urban-bohemian clothing, and people with mental health issues muttering to themselves as they shuffle along the streets.
At the peak of its dodgy powers in the 1990s, Redfern was seen as practically a no-go zone by many Sydneysiders due to its status as a land of drug use and trade, inflammatory graffiti, fires, assault, and general violence and unpleasantness.
Formerly one of the actual “wild west” suburbs of inner Sydney, in recent years Redfern has substantially – though not entirely – had its face changed by the forces of gentrification. Nowadays it’s basically an extension of neighbouring Surry Hills, with a similar burgeoning cafe and pub culture.
Redfern’s also still home to significant slices of public housing, an above-average crime rate can be noisy and traffic-heavy, and retains a mix of quirky demographics from the high and lower ends of socioeconomic society.

Starting outside Redfern station, this ride/walk heads toward Central station before veering off towards Ultimo, through Haymarket and on to Darling Harbour where the journey ends.
This route is approximately 3.2km (1.9 miles) long and would take around 40 minutes to complete on foot.

Walking around Sydney streets - Redfern
Walkabout - Redfern
This time we are walking around the back streets of Redfern, Surrey Hills, and Waterloo, Redfern has had a infamous recent history, with it’s high density housing commission apartments in such a close vicinity to the heart of Sydney (only 2-3 km’s from the Sydney CBD. partly gentrified now, the suburb still retains a lot of it’s character. I tackle this adventure in the early morning, but next time I will come back when we are out of lockdownd and the streets are more lively.
I normally go for a walk every morning and afternoon to get fit and lose weight, these walks can be monotonous and I see the same things every day. To break up the monotony during this 3 month lock down in Sydney, I have been taking longer walks of around 15 or 20 km’s to really “sight see” different suburbs around Sydney. I figured if I was anywhere else in the world I would be doing the same as a way to get to know the cities I visit better, so why not do it at home.
So you are welcome to come with me as I explore the back streets and walking areas of the Sydney suburbs while we are in lock down, and enjoy the different architecture and beauty.

On Sunday 1 May, 2022 we went to Carriageworks which is located on Wilson Street, Eveleigh NSW
It had on the first CUT N POLISH – ARTIST CAR BOOT SALE On.
It had a wide variety of artists trying to sell their art.
After walking through the artist market we walk through the suburb of Darlington NSW. We head east down Wilson St, then north on Shepherd St.
Turning North East on to Abercrombie St heading past Charles Kernan Reserve. The street we head down is Lawson St in a east direction until we reach the Train station of Redfern.
