Join our vibrant community of current and future expats on Patreon for as little as $5 and you'll also get a bunch of additional perks. Plus, your membership helps us continue sharing the world with you on YouTube! Watch a short video about all the benefits here:

Lake Chapala and Ajijic Mexico is one of the most popular areas to live and retire for expats from the United States and Canada.

The weather is about as close to paradise as you can get, and there are lots of activities to keep you busy. It's also about 30 minutes from the Guadalajara International Airport so you can easily fly back home or anywhere else in the world.

You'll also find a variety of real estate to fit most budgets and requirements. In this video, Inesa from Chapala Realtors was kind enough to show us 5 properties in Ajijic and San Juan Cosalá, which is located about 15 minutes west of Ajijic.

Whether you want to buy a condo, a townhome or a single family detached home in the Lake Chapala Area, Inesa can help!

Day in My Life in Ajijic, Mexico (Part 2)

I'm a solo female living in Mexico and this is what my life is like in Ajijic at Lake Chapala (farmer's market, delicious food, shopping, and more!)
❁❁Want to learn Spanish? I recommend this course:

In this Mexico vlog, I'm exploring the Wednesday Market in Ajijic, which is an open-air market filled with food (like my favorite barbacoa tacos!), clothes, jewelry, artisan products, fresh produce, and so much more. Later, I head to one of my favorite restaurants in Ajijic, Vegan Town with gluten-free pizza. Then, I continue around town on foot in search of a print & copy place and a store for birthday goodies!

What do you think of my life in Mexico? Let me know in the comments if I can answer any questions for you.

Is it easy or hard to live alone in Mexico? Well, I've been traveling Mexico for about 5 years now but for the past five months, my home base has been in a small town called Ajijic next to Lake Chapala (the biggest lake in Mexico.)

In this Mexico vlog, I'll be showing what my daily life looks like, including a dentist appointment, taking the bus, grocery shopping, what I typically cook at home, going to the gym, and getting a haircut. For those interested in the cost of living in Mexico, I have included all the prices as well.

THIS EXPAT HOTSPOT was NOT what we EXPECTED! (Ajijic Mexico)

Use this link to save 55% on the annual plan for LingoPie:

After a few days in what we think will be Mexico's NEXT expat hotspot, we ventured out of the city to visit what may be Mexico's most popular place for expats from the United States and Canada: Ajijic Mexico.

We were shocked by the number of expats in this area! While it was a beautiful place with lots of amenities that will appeal to retirees, it wasn't at all what we expected.

Coolest Neighborhood in Mexico (and the WORLD)!

Chapala / Ajijic Mexico BEST Climate in the world, Lori personal story

NEW program Today Sign-up for Private 50 minute Consultation Jerry Brown Travels

What is the climate in Lake Chapala?
The lake and surrounding mountains ensure warm daytime temperatures throughout the year, averaging a mild 74 F. And, because Lake Chapala sits at 5,000 feet above sea level, humidity is not a problem. ... Once the rain starts the temperature cools as much as 10 degrees and the mountains turn a lush green again.

The coolest months of Ajijic weather are December and January with an average daytime high temperature of 24°c/75° f but it has been known to dip down to 15°c/60°f at times. February and March are very pleasant months with an average daytime temperature in the high 20's celcius/70's fahrenhiet.

The DARK SIDE of Ajijic, Mexico

People love Ajijic at Lake Chapala...but what aren't they telling you? If you want to move or retire to Ajijic, watch this!
►Watch all our videos from Lake Chapala:

We're one of the thousands of expats who adore the charming qualities of Ajijic, Jalisco, Mexico. But it's true, there are some details that aren't the greatest. We wanted to make this video to give people the full picture on Ajijic (the negative details you might even call deal breakers) to make sure people can make an educated decision about moving to or retiring in Ajijic.

As Americans living in Mexico, we think the Lake Chapala area as a lot to offer. But it's not without its downsides.

If you're considering retiring in a Latin America country, Mexico could very well be a great fit! Immigration from the US is extremely common, there are more migrants coming to Lake Chapala every day!

Although the Ajijic area has a lot going for it, it can be hard to find information about the negative side of things. This video is your resource!

What do you think? Are these reasons enough to keep you away? Did we forget to mention anything? Let us know in the comments.

Exploring Ajijic Mexico

Walking the streets of Ajijic, Mexico as we make our way to the nearby town of San Antonio Tlayapacan. We spent a month in Ajijic and the Lake Chapala area. Ajijic is about an hour south of Guadalajara. The Lake Chapala area and Ajijic in particular are popular destinations for US and Canadian retirees, especially during the winter months. There are many services and businesses that cater to the expat community, and English is more readily spoken here than any of the other locations we’ve visited so far in Mexico. House Hunting in Ajijic, Mexico!!

Last week I was house hunting in Queretaro. This week I'm at Lake Chapala checking out the real estate for sale in Ajijic so I can buy (yes, BUY!) my future home.
❁❁Please subscribe❁❁

Today I'm looking at houses for sale in Ajijic to see if I can find my future home to purchase! Please keep in mind that the prices in the Ajijic real estate market are well above averages throughout Mexico. So during my house hunting today, I will only be seeing one place that's within my budget. The rest I'm viewing to get an idea of what higher price points will get you.

Thank you to my friend / real estate agent Juan Diego for helping me find a house to buy in Ajijic! (This is not a sponsored video. I do *not* receive commission for any referrals or houses sold as a result of this video.)

Natural HOT SPRINGS Spa in Mexico! (Lake Chapala, Ajijic)

This was our first time ever experiencing a spa. More specifically, a thermal mountain Mexico hot springs spa at Lake Chapala.

We got to soak in:
1. An apple cider vinegar bath,
2. A Mexico spa infused with flowers,
3. A coffee bath,
4. A Mexico chocolate bath, and
5. A Mexico mud bath to exfoliate the skin and detox our bodies.

Surprisingly, it was a really low cost spa in Mexico for everything you experience. The natural hot springs Mexico had us on cloud 9 by the time we left! 10/10 definitely recommend Spa Termal Tlalocan on Lake Chapala (near Ajijic). We can't wait to visit another natural hot springs in Mexico!

What do you think? What's the best way to relieve stress in Mexico?

ABOUT US (MADDIE & JORDAN)
In January 2018, we sold everything we owned in the US (except our husky Laska & what fit in our tiny, tangerine Prius C3) to travel the world—starting with Mexico. Since then, we've been making travel videos about our life in Mexico and the new experiences we encounter while traveling the world. If you'd like to join our shenanigans, subscribe to our YouTube channel. You can also poke around our social media to find out what we’re up to each week.
