HOTEL TOUR in RIO HONDO, ZACAPA | Trip to Izabal Part 1
Hello everyone! We took a 3 day road trip going to Izabal, Guatemala and we stopped to some places to see and experience all things different.
Our first stop is Rio Hondo, Zacapa! In my surprise, Rio Hondo has a very tropical weather, cool in the morning and humid and hot the rest of the day. It was as if we were in the Philippines. I saw coconut trees and bungalows/cottages/cabanas.
We went to check-in in Santa Cruz Hotel which our friend recommended and it was a delightful experience. It was surely a perfect destination in Zacapa especially during weekend for a family vacay! Also, we hope you enjoy our hotel tour and learn something new about Guatemala.

RIO HONDO, FRONTERA MEXICO BELICE

En esta aventura con nuestros amigos disfrutamos de un paisaje hermoso, algo bello! nos fuimos de visita a un lugar llamado El Dique, ubicado en Panaluya, Río Hondo en Zacapa.
Esta ubicado en la Sierra de las Minas de donde bajan los caudales de los ríos que abastecen las aldeas y municipios de la región.
En el camino ascendente se puden observar distintas especies de vegetación, fauna, y los vestigios de lo que antes era la hidroelectrica de Panaluya la cual generaba energía para el departamento.
Durante el viaje se puede apreciar el ducto que conducia el agua hacia la antigua hidroelectrica el cual aun conserva su estructura a un 90%.
Llegando a lugar nos encontramos con las bellas cascadas de agua y enormes piedras las cuales hacen un paisaje unico, el cansancio nos decia ya no más por lo escabroso del camino, pero no nos rendiamos por que la recompensa era gratificante.
Al llegar al lugar nos encontramos con estructuras echas de cemento y piedra la cual era para recaudar el agua y dirigirla hacia los tubos de metal.
El dique es un lugar visitado por pocas personas debido a lo dificil de llegar, esto lo conserca aun mejor ya que hay poca destrucción del área.
Llegamos y lo que mas deseabamos era sumergirnos en el rio el cual tiene una tonalidad marron o caramelo el pigmento de las raices de Sarza Parrilla en la sierra, nuestros cuerpos calientes ansiosos de probar esa agua fresca nos llevaban directo a una de las pozas formadas naturalmente, nos sumergimos y el agua a una temperatura baja es lo mas exquisito del viaje.
Disfrutar y beber agua natural sin contaminación te revive y agarras más fuerza y vitalidad para seguir explorando el lugar.
Una experiencia inolvidable, el dique en Panaluya, Río hondo es un lugar que tienes que visitar, recordandote que es un lugar privado el cual tienes que respetar, cuidar del medio ambiente, no dejar basura tirada ni utilizar fuego por ningun motivo ya que son bosques protegidos.

La cara de la Frontera Sur que nadie muestra - Chiapas y Guatemala
Como mexicanos estamos acostumbrados a ver el norte, pero hoy voltearemos al sur, cruzaremos caminando una de las fronteras más dinámicas y con escénicos paisajes: el límite occidental de Guatemala y México.
La línea que divide nuestros países es de casi mil kilómetros de longitud, y atraviesa el volcán Tacaná, selvas y ríos caudalosos.
Esta delimitación fronteriza dividió a uno de los pueblos mayas más antiguos del continente americano, la etnia Mam; sin embargo ellos han logrado mantenerse unidos con el libre cruce y trueque de sus productos.
Nuestra base es el tranquilo y bonito pueblo de Unión Juárez, que se localiza a pocos kilómetros de la línea fronteriza. En el primer día fuimos a Cordoba Matasanos, la comunidad del municipio con las mejores vistas del Cañón del Suchiate, el cual separa a México y Guatemala.

Zacapa es uno de los veintidós departamentos que conforman Guatemala, situado en la región Nor-Oriente de la República de Guatemala. Limita al norte con los departamentos de Alta Verapaz e Izabal; al sur con los departamentos de Chiquimula y Jalapa; al este con el departamento de Izabal y la República de Honduras; y al oeste con el departamento de El Progreso. Su cabecera departamental es Zacapa. Por su configuración geográfica que es bastante variada, sus alturas oscilan entre los 130 m s. n. m. en Gualán y los 880 m s. n. m. en el municipio de la Unión, su clima es cálido.
Zacapa es un departamento con una población mayoritariamente ladina (98.4% del total),menos del dos por ciento son indígenas. Zacapa -junto con Chiquimula, la Ciudad de Guatemala, Jutiapa y Retalhuleu- es el departamento con una baja proporción de indígenas.2 Zacapa también es el departamento con la mayor tasa de alfabetización en todo el país.

Centros turísticos y arqueológicos
Zacapa cuenta con los centros turísticos: Turicentro Valle Dorado, Balneario Pasabién Balneario las Mesas, Balneario Barranco Colorado, Balneario Doña María y las Termas de Santa Marta.
Uno de los principales atractivos del departamento de Zacapa es el Museo de Paleontología, Arqueología y Geología, conocido actualmente como Roberto woolfolk Saravia situado en el municipio de Estanzuela.
Este museo se inició cuando el señor Alfonso González Davison, en 1985, notó que en Estanzuela había fósiles y vestigios mayas. Algunos de estos fósiles estuvieron depositados en el Museo de Historia Natural de la ciudad de Guatemala, pero muchos de ellos eran sacados del país. Esto dio lugar a que el profesor Jorge Ibarra, Director del Museo Nacional de Historia Natural, y David Vela, Director del diario El Imparcial, escribieran varios artículos en el mencionado periódico, dando a conocer la importancia de la conservación técnica de estos restos en un museo apropiado.
Poco tiempo después el señor González Davison juntamente con el director del INGUAT, señor Leonel Sisniega Otero, sugirieron la construcción del museo y para ello el INGUAT contrató los servicios de los paleontólogos Bryan Petterson y Roberto Woolfolk Saravia, quienes no sólo recuperaron todas las piezas de fósiles posibles, sino construyeron el edificio del museo.
Entre los principales logros de estos paleontólogos fue haber encontrado la osamenta completa de un mastodonte; luego se encontró el esqueleto de un perezoso gigante que se encontraba en los límites de la capital con el municipio de Chinautla, el cual resultó ser el tercero en su clase en el mundo, así como otras piezas más que ya se encuentran en exhibición.
Gastronomía
El departamento de Zacapa cuenta con una variedad de platos, incluyendo la yuca con chicharrón, que consta de chicharrones, yuca, tortilla y salsa de tomate, las quesadillas, que es una especie de bizcocho hecho en molde el cual lleva, además de harina, huevos y demás ingredientes. Se le añade queso producido en la región el cual es el postre tradicional del departamento, cuya receta es guardada por los artesanos, así como el fresco de pepita (semillas de ayote que es el fruto de una planta de la familia de las cucurbitáceas que son tostadas y molidas). En la actualidad las tortillas de harina es un plato que se ha hecho tradicional de Zacapa, a pesar de no haberse originado en el departamento. map of Zacapa , carte de Zacapa
Río Hondo Belize
The Río Hondo in northern Belize is the border with our neighbor Mexico. The river has its headwaters in Guatemala, where it is known as the Río Azul, or Blue Creek in Belize. The river runs 230 kilometres from its headwaters into the Bay of Chetumal, known in Belize as the Corozal Bay. Interestingly, Río Azul runs in a southerly direction from Guatemala into Belize, but then takes a determinedly sharp turn to the north at La Unión where it becomes the Río Hondo, making for Belize's characteristic natural border with Mexico. hello hello my friends. this is a map of beautiful Belize. Belize is on the Caribbean coast of northern Central America. It shares a border on the north with the Mexican state of Quintana Roo, on the west with the Guatemalan department of Petén, and on the south with the Guatemalan department of Izabal. To the east in the Caribbean Sea, the second-longest barrier reef in the world flanks much of the 386 kilometers of predominantly marshy coastline. The area of the country totals 22,960 square kilometers , The many lagoons along the coasts and in the northern interior reduce the actual land area also. It is the only Central American country with no Pacific coastline.
Belize is shaped like a rectangle that extends about 280 kilometers north-south and about 100 kilometers east-west, with a total land boundary length of 516 kilometers. The undulating courses of two rivers, the Hondo and the Sarstoon River, define much of the course of the country's northern and southern boundaries. The western border follows no natural features and runs north–south through lowland forest and highland plateau.
The north of Belize consists mostly of flat, swampy coastal plains, in heavily forested places. The south contains the low mountain range of the Maya Mountains. The highest point in Belize is Doyle's Delight at 1,124 m

Belize is a Caribbean country on the northeastern coast of Central America. It borders Mexico to the north, the Caribbean Sea to the east, and Guatemala to the west and south. The Maya civilization spread into the area of Belize between 1500 BC and AD 300 and flourished until about 1200. Spain and Britain both laid claim to the land until Britain defeated the Spanish in the Battle of St. George's Caye (1798). In 1840 it became a British colony known as British Honduras, and a Crown colony in 1862. It achieved its idependence from the United Kingdom on 21 September 1981.
Belize has a diverse society that is composed of many cultures and languages that reflect its rich history. It is the only Central American country where English is the official language, while Belizean Creole is the most widely spoken dialect. Spanish is the second most commonly spoken language, followed by Mayan languages, German dialects, and Garifuna. Over half the population is multilingual, due to the diverse linguistic backgrounds of the population. It is known for its September Celebrations, its extensive barrier reef coral reefs, and punta music.
Belize's abundance of terrestrial and marine species and its diversity of ecosystems give it a key place in the globally significant Mesoamerican Biological Corridor. It is considered a Central American and Caribbean nation with strong ties to both the American and Caribbean regions. It is a member of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), and the Central American Integration System (SICA), the only country to hold full membership in all three regional organizations. It is the only mainland Central American country which is a Commonwealth realm, with Queen Elizabeth II as its monarch and head of state, represented by a Governor General (currently, Froyla Tzalam).
