Beihai, alias Zhucheng, is a prefecture-level city in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. It was established in 1926, and after the founding of the country, it was subordinated to the Qinlian Special Zone of Guangdong Province (first in Beihai City and then in Qinzhou Town), the Qinzhou Special Zone of Guangxi Province (with its headquarters in Qinzhou Town and Lianzhou Town), the Hepu Special Zone of Guangdong Province (with its headquarters in Lianzhou Town), and the Qinzhou District of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region (with its headquarters in Qinzhou Town). Qinzhou District, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region (with its seat in Qinzhou Town). It is located at the southern end of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and on the northeastern coast of Beibu Gulf. Beihai was one of the earliest ports for foreign trade and the starting point of the Silk Road, and was historically one of the main distribution points for goods traded between Yunnan, Guizhou, Sichuan, Guizhou, Xiang and E. It is 206 kilometres to the northwest from the capital Nanning, 198 kilometres to the east from Zhanjiang in Guangdong and 147 nautical miles to the southeast from Haikou in Hainan. The terrain is generally high in the north and low in the south, with a flat and open topography; the climate is maritime monsoonal, with typical subtropical characteristics; there are three districts and one county under its jurisdiction, with a total area of 3,337 square kilometres. According to the data of the seventh census, the resident population of Beihai was 1,853,227 as at 00:00 on 1 November 2020.
Beihai is an important starting port of the ancient Maritime Silk Road, a national historical and cultural city, an important constituent city of the Guangxi Beibu Gulf Economic Zone, and the only coastal city in western China to be included in the first batch of 14 cities in the country to be further opened to the outside world, as well as the only city in western China with a deep-water seaport, an all-weather airport, high-speed railways and highways. highways.
